She's so fed up with having to wait and fight to put Miquella on the throne I bet. So tired of the endless challenges and obstacles along the way. Just, tired. She must feel so fucking cynical about life other than Miquella, and I totally could understand that when she faces our character she's basically ready to go scorched earth on our ass just so she can survive for her brother, like she did with Radahn.

@@BubbaJinko Miquella was already on a throne. You realise the player meets her in what is literally their own erdtree right? The fighting for the Elden throne happened a long time ago. I doubt she is still concerned or even cares about that objective any more. She’s just waiting for Miquella to return unaware that he can’t.
@@BubbaJinko her brother ain’t even there though. Mogh took him. She has no reason to go crazy on the Tarnished. It would have been cool if she became somewhat like Rennala and just chilled in the room after battle.
These cutscenes are so beautiful. Loving Elden Ring so far. Can't wait to spend 4 days fighting her

After defeating her, I feel an overwhelming sense of pity for her. She is not an evil character, the sole thing she cares about is her brother. She is blind and missing limbs, a slave to the greater will and to the scarlet rot, destined to one day succumb to her curse. Despite her divinity, you could say she’s had the hardest time of anyone, and it feels kind of shitty of us to kill her. When you walk into the chamber that she is in, she seems so at peace: her hand on the roots of her lost brother’s Haligtree, perhaps deep in a memory of a long lost time when she might have known some semblance of happiness. She was doomed from the moment that she was born. She might not have known defeat, but she’s certainly known suffering, and yet she still fights you with dignity and strength.
@@remelisseThat's not what that title means, it's metaphorical. I'll use Game of Thrones to explain it since I've recently been rewatching it and most people have seen it. "The Hand of the King" isn't literal, it doesn't mean you're claiming to be a body part of a different person, it's like "right hand man" it's metaphorical. "The First Sword of Braavos" didn't mean the man was an object, it meant he was the best swordsman in Braavos, a swordsman and a sword are inseparable. "Blade of Miquella" just means "Swordsman of Miquella" she is a metaphorical sword, she kills his enemies.

@@pooydragon5398 She doesn't seem to want any real position of power was the point. She just wants to protect Miquella, and he wants to cure her rot. It's a sweet relationship in a world as corrupt and desolate as the Lands Between - especially with how Miquella also wants to grant the Prince of Death (Godwyn) a true death. I'm curious to see how they spin Miquella as a character, since so far there's a fair bit of evidence pointing towards him actually being kind of a decent Empyrean. He's also referred to a fair bit as being able to charm people... so maybe there's a darker side there too

Yeah her lore goes fucking crazy man. It took me like two full days to finally kill her and I didn’t feel good about it at all after I read her backstory. Super depressing

To add, unlike alot of previous fromsoft games she actually has a voice. So many bosses never say a thing but you understand them. Most games bosses don't have such a fitting voice. Her voice is gentle as the flower she blooms with the cruel undertone.
She almost looks fragile. A decaying corpse, missing two limbs, mottled by the scarlet rot. You’d think a brush of air would blow her away.
Then she arms herself, and swiftly proves that she is an elegant and efficient killing machine. When you get to phase two, you realize that she is, indeed, the beautiful calamity that devastated Caelid. An absolutely phenomenal design for a boss.
This isn’t really accurate. Or at least imo. She doesn’t look like a corpse at all she looks really peaceful and elegant in her sleep and tbh I really like how she’s sitting like a vogue model. Also the spreading of scarlet rot in caelid was an unforeseen effect. She didn’t know about or consider the aftermath because she was, you know, fighting for her life.
@@arryn786 To each their own. I agree that her sitting in the chair could also be seen as her sleeping peacefully, though for me, the picture had a macabre undertone. It struck me as sad, knowing she hopes to see her brother again, but he was stolen away from Mohg.
I’d respectfully note that, intentional or not, her stalemate with Radahn devastated Caelid. Whether she meant to release the scarlet rot or not is irrelevant. All the same, I love the design and backstory.

@@Kanal-zh4ro I'm a MGS series fan. I've played and beaten every single MGS game apart from MG1/MG2 (the arcade games), and Portable Ops (only playable on the PSP I believe).

She's both someone you fear and someone you feel very heartbroken for.
A difficult combination to imagine existing in one character, but that's true for her.
Chills, like you're in the presence of a true goddess. One who's been hanging onto life by a thread yet holding on with every ounce of strength she can muster.
When she a said you will witness true horror. I surely did! Lol that was a fun and intense fight!
Well 95% of the fight is fun, the other 5% is "THAT" attack 🤣

@@AthosJosue WFD isn't too bad once you've got a chance to practice it a bit and maybe watch a few videos. It's kind of bullshit-y for there to be a move so hard to dodge consistently that you need entire tutorials made around that singular move, but I'd still say the fight overall was pretty damn good. Also WFD is kind of fun to dodge now that I've practiced it plenty of times (coop and my own playthrough ofc). Scary as hell when she jumps up halfway through your attack animation, but if you circle around behind her and dodge the opposite direction you're moving, she actually misses that first volley completely a fair bit of the time. Those are the real heart pumping moments
Everyone thought this was a main boss. I remember seeing this and assuming this was related to the end of the game. But no. This boss is optional. The cutscene to Malenia brings out Elden ring by alot.
She probably should’ve been a main boss considering the fact that most of the entire lore of the game revolves specifically around her.

Fromsoftware use to make the strongest bosses in their games optional, they Always did (Kalameeth, Nameless King, Gael, Orphan of Kos...)
This is probably one of the most well designed game characters of all time

@@cionm7077 I didn't say she's hard. I said she's badly designed. Healing on blocks is stupid, and her weaknesses just encourage uses of already OP weapons like Rivers of Blood etc, while discouraging using heavy armor or slow weapons, which the game already punishes you for doing everywhere else. Malenia is weak to literally everything that makes Elden Ring kinda lame, especially dual wielding fast bleed weapons. But no, she isn't hard.
You mean visually, right? As a character with regards to the narrative, what very little we see of her in the game is utter bollocks.

You’ve never known defeat? Well I’ve known many defeats. Experienced many deaths. Some are reasonable, most are embarrassing. Died to the same mistake twice, perhaps more. I may have died 100 times in this journey, and I may die 100 times more from your blade. But have I really been truly defeated? Even after 100 deaths, I somehow get back up, no matter how painful the journey is, no matter how angry or upset I was, I just want to get back up, until I, a Tarnish that I am, will know success.

She is by FAR and i say FAAAAR my favorite boss in Elden Ring. From the gameplay to especially the first impression in the cutscene. It's shown in such an elegant and beautiful way.
I absolutely love her sentences, the way it's executed is extremely memorable. "Corpse after corpse, left in my wake."
I got chills the moment she looked at tarnished and said "I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella." i'm not gonna lie, this quote is embolded in my memory.
Fromsoftware has always been good at making memorable moments, but this? IT TAKES THE CAKE!
While DS3 is my favorite game of all time, Malenia is what Soul of Cinder is to me but for Elden Ring. If we ever get to visit an alternate Malenia who succesfully overcomes rot and no limb flesh/blindness, i would absolutely fight her again and again and again and again.

I agree but disagree, The way in which Rennala came forth was literally spine chilling, Granted she was not as hard as Malenia, The way in which Ranni introduces the last of the Royal family which made the magic and set forth the Glintstone, was CHILLING. * Foul Trespasser *. Send word far and wide..... as far as bossess go Malenia was definitely the most badass, but the most beautiful and horrifying way to introduce a boss, is by far Ranni introducing Rennala. It was almost haunting and sad like the you will witness true horror. Like Ranni and Malenia were sad you came to perish.
Noooo you cut out the part after the first phase where she falls down, and as the Tarnished walks toward the tree, she says in the most badass voice “Wait.”

I got to face her for the very first time today.
Such a beautiful and elegant fighter, she dwarfs every other fight I've had throughout the game.
Facing her wasn't infuriating surprisingly, I was just in awe of her almost the whole time...
I mean, someone felt bad for killing the regal ancestral spirit, but this woman is barely alive and she's waiting on someone who's never coming and something that will never happen...
Couldn't we just let nature take its course?
And yeah you can bring up Caleid, but that's war for ya! So many people died and it ended in a stalemate
No one got what they wanted and the apocalypse happened essentially.
What makes the first cutscene more eerie is how there’s barely any background noise and no music. Just you and the undefeated warrior in front of you
If any other boss in any fromsoft game told me “you will witness true horror” I would have brushed it off as just another generic one liner and forgot about it.
But Malenia didn’t just tell me I would witness true horror. She showed it to me.
Around 1:15 you can see the root forming a big circle. There is a good chance Miquella was there using his own body to nurture the Haligtree before Mogh arrived and kidnapped him.
1:15 is a closeup of Melania's prosthetic arm. We already know where Miquella was in the tree, his cocoon was a large sphere and there's a large sphere shaped hole right below the roots shaped like a person.
Wish the cutscene happened every time you came in
Her monologue is absolutely incredible. This character is ingrained in my imagination.

I always forget that Malenia has words in her opening cutscene since I only heard it once and then died appropriately 8k times.

I am a grinder, I never started the main campaign until I was already 100hrs in at level 160. Malenia knew defeat on this day.

So where does her sword come from since it is not initially attached to her arm?
Maybe it was detached & she picked it up along with her helmet. When we get the Hand of Malenia from the Finger-Reader Crone in the Roundtable Hold, it’s detached & Malenia’s Gauntlets have no attachments to keep the weapon in place (unlike her boss fight).

Melania| Blade of Miquela!!! Taught me patience
I was struggling to beat Melania. Before this boss fight, I always struggled to have patience whenever I didn't want to. I only had patience when I wanted to have patience. Then just like Genichiro taught me how to have self confidence again. (Sekiro Shadows Die Twice) Melania was there to save me in a Fromsoftware Game once again. Melania is truly the most difficult boss Fromsoftware ever made. It made sword Saint isshin look like a breeze. If I wasn't for my patience, I would have never gotten the opportunity to receive help from some players. I kept fighting Melania. I knew I couldn't beat her alone. But, as some people would give up and go beat Elden ring without Melania. I chose for the first time in my life to have patience when I totally didn't want to. My patience payed off and was able to assemble a team of players to take down Melania. Melania during the first team managed to eliminate me. But even when before I would have given up. I said, let's do this! I summoned maybe 2 or 3 times. And now! When I finally beat Melania. It was not just satisfying to know my patience paid off. It felt rewarding to know that I finally have the confidence and the know how to have patience whenever I don't want to. Now I can look back on this moment whenever i do not want to have patience. Thank you Fromsoftware for creating a masterpiece of a boss fight. Now! I must become the Elden Lord.

Where is her sword coming from?
0:58: The artificial arm doesn't seem to have any blade.
1:25: Her arm suddenly has a 2-meter long blade attached to it.
Is the game implying that she picked it up from somewhere just off camera and attached it to her arm? (and couldn't be bothered to show us that?)
Or is the sword unrealistically-retractable and came out of her arm?
She is a Demi-god and is being eaten alive from the inside by a deadly disease/poison, she has lost almost all of her limbs and is basically blind. Bet she is revered as being one of the mightiest and strongest in the lands between. She is also the goddess of scarlet rot, and can create wings from it. But your troubled by her sword

Is it just me, or does her sword seem inconsistent? Sometimes it appears to be attached, but other times it just looks like she's just holding it the same way the player would
She’s able to detach it at will. Whenever you see sparks in her moveset, it’s her attaching or detaching it
The sword is attached to the forearm part of the prosthesis. But she just holds it by the blade.
@@tigresen5660Nope. The mechanism it is attached to is what she’s moving to to adjust its position. Which is why it sparks, but it’s always part of the arm.
@@arryn786 wrong. It sparks specifically when she removes it. Watch her attack animations in slow motion. One of the major ones is when she holds the blade about half way up the blade and swings 3 times very fast, and then moves her hand back to the end and swings a 4th time

It’s interesting how Malenia look very similar to Radagon in her second form. Her first form looks very feminine, but when she transforms she appears quite masculine.
