Menstrual Cups Make You Loose | True or False?

  • Can a menstrual cup make your vagina loose? No. This myth is something I see in the comment section of my videos, especially on my shorts, and so I wanted to make a video to answer this question. No one should feel bad for being genuinely curious, especially if they have been taught misinformation about how vaginas work. Menstrual cups won't make you loose. Menstrual cups won't stretch out your vagina. Vaginas are meant to stretch and return to their natural state. Age and pregnancy can loosen the pelvic floor muscles which is why you might need a slightly larger menstrual cup as you age or after a pregnancy.

    I find it quite sad how there's a sense of shame and worry around ones tightness. Especially since it is so natural for it to change as we age or have babies. But the main reason why people are made to feel embarrassed about being "loose" is really gross, I don't need to mention what that reason is, we all know.

      It is my second month using menstrual cups. I just noticed how I easily insert cup right now.
      I mean, my vagina feels different.
      I don't know if that was normal so I search and look up here hahaha

      IMO I'm worried about "loose-ness" bc that can make everyday leaks feel more apparent, if that makes sense...

    Loose and tight shouldn't be value judgements but I will say that I think my pelvic floor has become more toned after using a cup for nearly a decade now. I feel like I have more bladder control than I used to. Or maybe I am just more aware of what's going on there now and that helps with the control. Purely anecdotal of course.

    Good info!! I had physical therapy after becoming a mom and the key is muscle flexibility.
    There is a such thing as being too tight in the vagina (Not including vaginismus). Imagine flexing your arm and keeping it in that state. The rest of the arm will not function properly because the biceps are too tight.
    A healthy functioning muscle (and vagina) has flexibility.

      I’ve heard of people over tightening through their own self guided exercising routines which is why I wanted to point out that guidance from a professional is key! Too tight is def a thing.

      @@PeriodNirvana yes I’ve heard of this from a pelvic floor therapist as well that your pelvic muscles can become really tight/ tense and for them kegels can make it worse and what they need to focus on is relaxing the muscles instead of tightening

    I'm a licenced body waxing specialist and this week during a brazilian bikini wax, with a client (that had 2 kids vaginally in 2 years) we talked about the cup and she said that 'the cup' caused her prolapse, I cringed because it blew my mind that after delivering 2 humans vaginally she blamed a tiny cup for her uterus falling down. Now, granted that if you have that condition already, a cup may not be the best but rather a disc but her statement just shoked me. People randomly come to conclusions without researching or talking w their doctor.

    • @jess7142
      @jess7142 Před 9 měsíci +1

      But there are actual cases, although it probably means she didn't use the cup correctly. If you pull the cup, still with the suction, it can cause prolapse.

    Thank you for showing the size demonstration. I think some people are worried because the diameter of the menstrual cup does appear to be large from certain angles. But the measurement is just slightly larger than the head of a fully erect penis. Just like when inserting a penis, the cup will stretch open your vagina, but not where it's uncomfortable, painful or it will not go back to it's tighter size when you pull it back out.

    Hi Kim!
    I loved your reviews and for the last few days I have been all over your very old and newest videos.
    First I would like send my appreciation in your really objective and clear explanations!
    I have been using cups for almost 2 years now, I have organicup (we had limited range in Turkey when I first intended for it) and it works totally fine. My particular problem is about leaking while sleeping/in fact right at the time I wake up. The cup does not seem to be overflowing, it seems losing the position while I sleep and when I sit tight after waking up, maybe due to muscles tensity changes & relaxation.
    I am now really interested in discs after watching your all videos around them :)
    Maybe would you consider to make review/post about this? Is it common that people has cups/discs (+period underwear) for night-time use, any specific recommendations? Thank you!

    • @PeriodNirvana
      @PeriodNirvana  Před 2 lety +5

      We actually cover this issue when you take the quiz on periodnirvana.com. It will ask if your cup leaks if it's happening during sleep. The likely solution is a wider diameter cup for overnight, like the Tampax Cup, or using a disc. The muscles relax and that coupled with laying down can cause there to be more space for the cup to migrate upward or for blood to go past the rim

    I’m struggling to get my cups to work. The diva cup #2 leaked and caused me severe cramps. I did a little research and took a test that fitted me for the Merula OS, which I couldn’t wait to try.
    Unfortunately I’m having the worst experience with it all day today. Like the Diva cup, it won’t pop open inside of me. I’ve watched more videos and tried all the folds for inserting. The cup is coming out EMPTY. I learned my lesson this cycle to wear a pad because it’s been a disaster since this morning with all the leaks/spills I’m dealing with.
    I’m no longer on birth control and so my periods are super heavy and my cervix is low and tilted 🤦‍♀️. I’ve had 4 full term pregnancies, which were cesarean births. All these “full term” pregnancies did were stretch the crap out of my abdominal muscles instead of my pelvic floor. I’m
    Seriously starting to believe that though I meet criteria for certain cups, based on age and pregnancies, my physical region doesn’t. I swear I can’t get my finger pass to comfortably reach the rim of the cup to make sure it’s properly open.
    I’m very disappointed because this Merula is much firmer then the Diva cup and I expected it to pop open with less trouble. I’m almost at the point where I just wanna go back to my good old tampons. These things are expensive and non-refundable to keep trying new brands every time. Seriously

      The severe cramps suggest a too tight void. Try it again, but push on it to loosen the void when you get the bad cramps
      Merula is supposed to be one size fits all, but it's round so if your cervix is tilted it's probably not going the right way I guess...
      I'm just trying to help. I'm by no means an expert. I have a Nomai M and a Lalicup S. Towards the end of my period, my body does this thing where the Nomai will simply not fit no matter what, but the Lalicup does. Cervix lower? Cervix tilted? Muscles tighter? 🤷‍♀️
      The too hard void happened to me a few times with the Lali. A finger next to it helps loosen the void and then it works well

      I bought few different cups to try out and the most different and comfortable one if found is called the lily cup off Amazon. The opening has a slight tilt to it and it's sooo soft compared to other cups. It doesn't hurt putting it in or taking it out like the others do. With it being tilted, it might work better for your tilted cervix

    It didn't stretch me out but it probably took my V the first time (I lost patience and pulled it out like I was starting a lawnmower because the void was broken but it wouldn't come out). That blood was bright red
    Needless to say, I'm stubborn af so I tried again the next month 🤣
