Normally in these games, when a character turns to heretical or unspeakable acts their knights/servents usually stay with them right to the end...but it says a lot about Rykard's knights that they were so disgusted by what he had become they turned against him and looked for something that could be used to destroy him.
I suppose even blind loyalty has its limits.
I donât blame them, heâs literally disgusting đ€ź
I also feel like they wanted to spare him from the disgrace of remaining as the lord of blasphemy, much like Radahn's soldiers wanted to spare him from anymore suffering. Its not really comparable because they are directly opposing their lord, but the theme of soldiers trying to kill their master for his own sake continues

I believe Rykard's mind melded with the serpent, hence the line: Let us devour the gods, together. That's the serpent's will mixed with his rebelliousness.
I don't think it's the serpent's will, its just him pretending to be the serpent.
That line was for you, he wanted to eat you so that he can devour the gods with you as you become a part of him
No the âusâ and âweâ stuff is to make you feel apart of something greater - heâs trying to appeal to you - but his gluttony and greed wonât allow that. Itâs all about him and his conquest against the gods and mad grasp for power.
This dude made me laugh with his enthusiasm...even as your character beats the snake, he wakes and doesnt even think youre there to emd him....he just assumes youre there to join his family and devour Gods....lol, the audacity of his disposition literally made me laugh out loud and I loved him for it.
Given that the item description says those he devours become his kin, I'd assume he's inviting you to be eaten though

Honestly what's truly terrifying is that lore wise the tarnished could actually be beaten by Rykard if he consumes you and as such makes you one with him. I can just imagine the tarnished being swallowed alive but stilling having the wherewithal to slit their own throat in order to be resurrected instead of being fully consumed.. đ°

@@revengance4149 Haha well keep in mind Rykard isn't a hive mind like for example the flood from Halo and so by consuming you he doesn't merge your consciousness with his own but instead inherits your strength which is why he only devours champions. Furthermore lore wise I highly doubt Rykard would ever be strong enough to defeat demigods like Melania or actual Gods like Radagon and Merika. I guess you could say he definitely has delusions of grandeur and a massively inflated sense of self.
@@Doomseer He could have actually. When ranni gave a piece of destined death to rykard to stand a chance against maliketh, he could have defeated and devoured maliketh. I suppose he didn't get the chance. If he ever truly devoured maliketh and inherited the power of destined death, he can go on a rampage and devour anyone he wants. Literally the entirety of lands between could have been swept away by him. And not only he can inherit all the power types from the demigods, but also their great runes. He could become elden lord. But he won't stop there. He will grow more powerful and eventually maybe even devour godly figures. If he devoured ranni and got hold of the fingerslayer blade, combined with destined death, he might swallow the greater will. He can actually get an actual outer god powers. And if one outer god can go down, so might the others. This is why he is my favorite entity in the game. A being that is ever growing, immortal and inherits anyone's power that he kills. If we get some content of rykard becoming the strongest being in the game, I would love that.
I JUST now realized why he says âtogethaaaaa!â Itâs because if he eats us, we will live consciously inside of him!
Man the blasphemous blade is one of my favorite weapons in the game, it looks so cool

Rykard is like Orochimaru, both are obsessed with snake, immortality and pull sword from their mouth.
Also he was the founder of 3 Incantation & Many item on Elden ring. Like his mother who Found Incantation of Grafity Magic.
every character in this game teaches a lesson and rykard teaches us that pimpin ain't easy
The fact this dude LAUGHS after you defeat him, and when you visit him again heâs already reviving himself, telling you to give him time. This dude is my all time FAVORITE video game boss
makes sense, ouroboros as a god in media is a creature that is supposed to literally end the world as we know it and be reborn once the cycle renews. It makes sense the serpent god has some form of immortality only destined death would be able to break.
These videos should be part of the game itself as a reward for delivering the Great Runes to their towers. Thanks again Dan

Easily the top 3 Most interesting lore and boss designs we have seen for a boss. Although it does remind me of that serpent boss from sekiro, It still was amazing first time fighting against him as he changed the stage to fit a more hellish narrative.

I suppose beating even Radagon and the golden order just means that you were able to accomplish one thing Rykard wanted to do, which isnt enough for a tarnished to impress him. But, defeating *undefeated* demigods like Radahn and Malenia, THAT would make you worthy of defeating a monster who never stops getting stronger.

When I fought Rykard I found that spear immediately and promptly forgot about. I died about 10 times before it occurred to me that maybe I was meant to use it lmao
I was over-leveled and felt like such a noob for not being able to beat him after like 30 tries... Then I read online about the sword, yea, quite a different type of fight once you use that thing.

I have played dark souls 3 and fighting rykard is like fighting Yhorm the Giant. When I saw that twinkling thing, I made a fast decision to equip it and use it against Rykard and boom, one of the most fellable demigod Iâve ever slain.
they should make an Elden Ring show or movie. the story of Elden Ring and its lore is so intriguing i wana see it on the big screen
I feel like their games are better suited as games. The lore and story is, as I'm sure you're aware, better off seen in a state of a sort of aftermath. Discovering the atrocities of an old world, and finding your way through that as a player is part of what makes the stories so good imo

Am i the only one who said YES! when he asked to join as family and devour the gods together? cause i was up to joining him XD. at the time i didnt know it ment him to eat me.. i was thinking more.. Rykard's ending path XD
This has to be one of my favorite fights in Elden Ring because:
- I legit was NOT expecting him to actually BE the snake.
- The cut-scene was so disgusting, I was horrified but to the degree I felt nauseous.
- Defeating him felt amazing because I really felt like I destroyed some sort of terrible evil, or put an end to something that would doom the world
- Drops the most overpowered, broken faith weapon in the game, which was PERFECT for my build.
just to note he isn't actually dead he was imbued with the rune of death as well when him and ranni rebelled against the golden order...also Rykard discovered a the God of Serpants deep in Mt Glemir he served this God then eventually combined with him along with building an army and Valcono Manor itself

Headcanon: It exists outside of the Lands Between and is exclusively for Tarnished to use. However, itâs been a long time since the Shattering ended and as many Tarnished came and went, the Hold itself started to die.

@@violatorut2003 I think it's because the real roundtable hold is inside the Erdtree, but in a different area where we fight Radagon. Maybe the basement of the hold is where Radagon's fight is or something

Interesting how Fromsoft takes from existing religious mythology. Zoroastrianism tells of a dragon-snake of outer darkness which seeks to devour the world, which itself is a very god.
Its clear Rykard was inspired by this.

The ever rejuvenating serpent, part of the world of Fire and Dragons but i believe corrupted once the Frenzied Flame God entered together with the Greater Will, blasphemous blade has mix orange and deep red color

I donât know who is the older or younger one but it sounds like Ranni was the eldest who was smarter than everyone, Rykard was the weird and problematic middle child, and Radahn is the youngest that everyone loves
The elder sister gets the brain and the youngest son gets the brawn and love. The middle child said," F**k you both"
For some reason I always thought of Ranni as the scheming youngest child who always got away with everything.
He was the Oldest siblings. second was Radahn & last was Ranni.

Considering how the image and worship of the Serpent seems to vastly predate everything else judging by the item lore in the games; I don't think its wise to assume that Lady Taneth is completely delusional about incarnating Rykard (or the Serpent) in herself. Only time will tell.
Elden ring dlc content? I accidentally killed her in my play through of the game cause I slammed the blasphemous blade at the body without knowing she was there on the other side lol. Then crucible knight kicked my butt I think
In the opening cutscene that showed off all the principal characters, Rykardâs severed head was shown along with a normal-sized snake. So unless this apparent snake god was always comparatively tiny until Rykard fed himself to it, Iâm thinking thereâs a cycle of the snake god incarnating in a new, smaller form if it ends up dying.
What I like about his lore is rather you believe he was willingly devoured or is possessed by the snake to fulfill it's beastly desires to simply eat strong beings.
These are great, bro. Voice got a little overdramatic at the beginning, but you brought it home. Lol. These are bloody entertaining. Cover the Godskin hunt. The religious fanatics covered in human skin commanded by the mysterious "gloam-eyed queen" whom I dont think anyone has discovered who she actuallyis yet. Its the most interesting lore in the game to me.
