- Put foot rally adventure through Africa Part 2 has landed! But its not quite how we expected or wanted it to go…
Gorgeous George’s time has come to an end.
It’s a very sad day for all 😭
RESPEKT tho little G - you did your beach buggy club proud. 🏆
You’ve shown strength, determination and agility on the bumpiest, pot holed roads known to man.
(Not a single popped tyre, which cannot be said for some of the teams with big 4x4 overlanders…
😏 just sayin)
Luck was on our side as 4 angels sent from planet earth, aka team Dromedaris drove passed by chance (to pick up their laundry from the last town 😂) and gave us a tow to the nearest garage.
The part we need to fix him up would take 1-2 weeks to deliver and that’s time we just don’t have..
Watch this weekend as we go car hunting to try and find something that will get us back on the road and across the finish line.. 🥺

BUT that all aside, getting to self-drive safari in Africa has been on of the most amazing things we've ever done. Driving through national parks, seeing elephants walk across the road, zebras, giraffes! What a country...

Hyenas lol. The wild dogs are highly endangered, so you were lucky to see them. Great to see you two in my neck of the woods. African wild dogs are lovely.
I thought the same thing. I'd prefer the wild dogs over the hyenas. Both are cool, but the rareness of the wild dogs is so extra cool.

Haha. Seriously. They go "woooow, hyenas!! Oh no, wait, it's just a wild dog. Aw man", when they really should be utterly amazed. When you visit Botswana, chances are you will see hyena. Not many people get to see the wild dogs though.
We were in Kasane, the pinnacle of wildlife hotspots in Botswana (and of course, by that, in the world) when a large pack of wild dogs were roaming the area. At every checkpoint, gate, gas station, anywhere, everyone asked "did you see the wild dogs!?". And these are people who are very used to seeing wildlife.
I'm sure plenty of people will tell them how lucky they in fact were, so they will appreciate what they got to experience.
I came to say the same thing. I would be stoked to see the dogs!!!

RIP George, you won't be missed. On a positive note, you did bring out the best in the best of the other rally participants. Showed us how selfless others can be in service to their fellow man and woman. And showed us, once again, how resilient Craig and Trav can be when faced with challenges that would drive most of us into a fetal position calling it quits. Love you guys. Fantastic adventure here for such a great cause.

Also to see an African Wild Dog is WAYYY better than a hyena in my opinion. They’re actually an endangered species, and are like the African version of wolves. They travel in packs and are almost impossible to domesticate (hence their name The Wild Dog). So quite a privilege to see them.

I am living for this series, love it so much. I’ve been to Kenya and did the Tsavo West and Amboseli safari which was incredible - what we found so funny afterwards was how complacent we were about seeing elephants, giraffes and zebra. We were so lucky to see a leopard and lions too - oh and hippo and crocodiles….and hyena 😂😂😂😂😂 Can’t wait for next week! 😊

You guys make my early Monday mornings. Its 5.40am and not quite dawn here in Western Australia, but it doesnt matter, this morning Im in Africa watching 2 of my favourite people having a blast (and 50 disasters every episode) while doing good things for other people......its a great way to start the week.
I dont know if you quite understand the gift you give to people like me. Im 55 but Im in advanced heart failure. I cant travel....anywhere really. I struggle with a car trip half an hour down the road and the last time I got on a plane to visit rellies a couple of states away, I picked up a virus on the plane and got sick for 6 weeks.......I go nowhere, seldom even leave the house, but each week you pick me up and take me along on your adventures and I get to see and experience things I wouldnt otherwise see and experience. I am extremely grateful for the work of you, Eamon and Bec, Flying the Nest, Kara and Nate and a host of other travel CZcamsrs who give us shut ins the opportunity to experience the world through your camera lenses.
RIP Gorgeous George but so glad you were finally able to get another vehicle to carry on the rally! Loved all the animals you encountered! Thanks for sharing! ❤❤❤

As an ex South African, it was fantastic to see the animals, especially the Elephants. I am originally from Port Elizabeth that has the fantastic Addo Elephant Park 1 hour from 'home'. We ensure it is on our itinerary everytime we visit our family and friends.

I was so hoping you would get to Cape Cross and maybe see the amazing team from Ocean Conservation Namibia rescuing entangled seals from ocean trash. As you would say, they are legends! Enjoying watching your adventures!
