  • This short standing yoga routine is a great way to warm up your whole body before yoga practice or workout. You can do this warm-up barefoot or with your shoes on and you don't need a yoga mat, so you can also use this warm-up routine to stretch and mobilize your body anytime during the day.

    Kudos for your labeling of your videos and how you have them organized on your subscription site. There are so many videos out there and your labeling and organization makes it much easier to find the type of exercise I am looking for. Your instructions are also very smooth and clear for someone who is not naturally drawn to Yoga.

    Thank you Uliana. That was a very enjoyable routine. As a matter of interest, are you double jointed or is your joint flexibility purely a result of your devotion to practising yoga?

    • @yogawithuliana
      @yogawithuliana  Před 3 lety +5

      Hi David! Interesting that you ask this question - I don't consider myself super flexible at all))My flexibility increased a lot since I started practicing yoga regularly, but it is far from what naturally flexible people can do with their bodies)) I'm actually being very careful not to over-stretch and balance flexibility with strength training)

    Excellent short warm up but it was really intense at the yogi squat. What should I add after that to relieve the tension?

    • @yogawithuliana
      @yogawithuliana  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Marta, where exactly do you feel the tension in the yogi squat? This can be a difficult pose as it requires mobility of the hips, knees and ankles plus flexibility of the inner thighs and lower back. It's hard to advise something without seeing you, but here a few modifications that I like to offer in class when I teach the yogi squat:
      - if sitting quite deep in the squat is not a problem, but the heels lift up, try placing a rolled towel/blanket to elevate the heels - this can help to relieve tension in the ankles.
      - another option is to sit on the block(s) to take some tension away from the legs.
      - if the inner thighs feel tight, you can keep fingertips in front on the floor instead of pressing knees wider with the elbows.
      I know these options are not so practical if you are just doing a short warm up, so maybe just skip it or do another standing forward bend instead :) oh make it dynamic: standing forward bend -> bend knees sit into squat -> straighten the legs for forward bend :)

    • @MartaVanegas
      @MartaVanegas Před 3 lety

      @@yogawithuliana thank you so much! It’s the ankles wanting to pop up, which is my nagging issue in all squats whether for yoga or lifting weights... it is probably my Achilles’ tendon being too tight due to wearing heels for a long stretch of my life. I wear Danskos now! I’ll do the support under the heels until my tendons acclimate. It’s also just a very intense move and it’s hard to keep breathing on. I’m looking for a move to softly release from the squat.
      Thank you for the fantastic video series. You changed my life. I also love your accent. I’m Hungarian!

    • @MartaVanegas
      @MartaVanegas Před 3 lety

      @@yogawithuliana I will try the dynamic version and then get out of the squat into a forward bend. My neck can use one more stretch with gravity!

    I would greatly caution making a regular practice of making full head circles. I've been told by three college professors that this puts maximum compression on the vertebrae of the cervical spine. I would just do half circles with my head down. This is common knowledge and well studied.

    I was not able to do the deep squad, any suggestions to regain flexibility on hip flexors?

    • @yogawithuliana
      @yogawithuliana  Před 2 lety

      Usually the reason people cant do deep squat is the lack of ankle or hip mobility(or both). If you are sure it's your hip flexors, just start stretching them regularly & try to spend some time in modified squat position every day or so - sitting on the blocks or placing a blanket under the heels in deep squat are my favourite modifications)

    I like your videos, but this kind of stretching should not be done before a workout or without an actual warmup. Warmup means quick movements, more cardio-like. Starting with slow stretches like these can make your workout less effective and increase your chance of injury. Ideally, stretches like these should be done after the entire workout. If you really want to do slow stretches before working out for some reason (which has been proven repeatedly to have no benefit at all and actually decreases workout effectiveness and chance of injury), they should be done AFTER an actual warmup. It still isn't good to do stretches like these before a workout, but if you warm up first, at least you'll have less of an effectiveness decrease and less of an increased chance of injury than if you did only these slow stretches and skipped the actual warmup.
