love it..when i split from my wife about 20year ago,i was working in newcastle, got a flat in the tower block behind the blue bell...called abbot court..on the the 13th floor..the bars around gateshead then were buzzing....
I remember the time the high street was bustling and shopping there with my nana., and of course getting sasparella. One of the cinemas was absolutely gorgeous art deco . Sad to see . Thanks for sharing.
This isn't just happening in the UK, I, a Sandancer have lived in Germany for over 40 years. Now the village I live in, once had three pubs, but now there isn't one. I remember that the market place in Shields once had so many pubs, that you could not drink a pint in every pub without getting very drunk.
Used to get a canny pint of scotch in the Trafalgar "The Traff" If I could only go back 30 odd year we had a great time on a Friday night out. The high st has changed a lot since Sheppard closed, as some of us still say today " I'll show me arse in Sheppard's window" 🤣😂
I can remember drinking on the HIGH STREET a few times i nearly always had a bad head. yes there were quite a few pubs on that street . But you have to remember the prices of drink has gone up and up and up I can remember paying. about .25p a pint .in the seventies . now it costs around £4.50 a pint. no the breweries have not been slow to jack prices up..
Which one was The Moon & Sixpence" I remember that opening in late 1980's but I don't remember it being a bar before that. Worked in Gateshead twice & the high street was great for bars, I loved Curley's and the Fleece but the Central was an amazing place. What a splendid building that is and so is The Metropole. Beware, I'm also from S Shields & there were some great buildings there that the council were only too happy to demolish & by the look of it, Gateshead High Street could be gone in a few years time.
The government are doing a grand job of.turning the inner cities into wastelands, Life will be hardly worth living in the next 10 yrs ...unless your a Tory millionaire ....
praise the Lord, they have been a disaster for many families and individuals as well, sadly though the culture of boozing has not disappeared but has been manifested in an even more sinister form where families have been initiated into the culture; the rising generation are being habituated to the idea that drinking alcohol is OK, and many people are completely bamboozled by it..
@@colincharlton9339 I KNÒ WE ARE LEAVING BUT WILL REJOIN WHEN THE NUTTERS HAVE GONE, 500 MILLION MARKET RIGHT NEXT DOOR AND WE CANT USE OT WITHOUT A LOT OF RED TAPE, THE THING LEAVING ESS SUPPOSED TO STOP, STILL IM NOT BOTHERED I LEFT TITANIC UK LOL 😂
