Thanks for sharing that beautiful piece of music with us. I loved your reaction and your pride and passion for the people of the United Kingdom 🇬🇧. You are what we would call in the UK a Gentleman and jolly nice chap. Many thanks from the UK 🇬🇧.
Our Band of the Royal Marines give chills whenever they play. To play and march at the same time is an exeptional skill. They are second to none and top class
Greetings from the United Kingdom.
You did do a reaction, albeit a silent one. You let the musicians and the music speak, both of which were excellent.
I liked the fact you didn't interrupt, you just sat there and enjoyed the performance. That's the best reaction anyone could hope for.
Thank you for sharing the video with us.
She is a beautiful singer had the haunting sound top notch 🥲
You are so empathetic and genuine. Hats off to you and thank you for your wonderful reaction.
I know you didn't say anything, but I could see your appreciation on your face. That said it all.
How could you ever stop the video and 'react' to this? It was too beautiful to interrupt. We all went on the same emotional ride with you. God bless UK and USA.
My son's school clarinet teacher was an ex bandsman in the British military. They are all excellent musicians, worthy of any orchestra in the world, but also fully trained soldiers, who fight in conflicts (did you spot the medals ?).
My son's teacher was mainly a woodwind teacher, who taught all woodwind instruments, but he could also play any brass instrument. He explained that he had to learn them all, because not all bandsmen returned from duty and you never knew who you'd have to stand in for.
In terms of not reacting; when you were listening to her sing, your expression looked like you were falling in love. I think that's reaction enough. 😍
Your face connor was a picture you were totally mesmerised as I was 😊
I could see how captured you were by the performance, just beautiful isn't it.. One of my favourite pieces of music..
And these are fighting solders as well.
To some tune too.
Bandsmen usually take on the roll as medics during military operations or war.
PURE CLASS!!!! Absolutely beautiful and so utterly professional🥰🥲 and I also absolutely love Hans Zimmer! What a genius!
I could see by the pleasure on your face how much you enjoyed that and so did I. Thank you for posting it for us all to enjoy and be very proud of our Royal Marines Band.
There are 5 Bands of HM Royal Marines, They are generally acknowledged to be The Premier Band of The British Armed Forces. They have Annual Shows they Perform every Year & Their Beating Retreat Performance held at Horse Guards, which is where they are performing in this Video, is regarded as the Best Performance on Par with The Trooping The Colour Parade each June in the British Armed Forces. Every Single Musician must be able to play a Minimum of 3 Instruments & all are of the Standard Required to be able to play professionally with a Symphony or Philharmonic Orchestra.
One of their most Popular Annual events is The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance Concert played before members of The Royal Family at The Albert Hall in London, as close to Remembrance Day, 11th November as Possible. If you could only watch one of these Concerts, I recommend the 2022 one, held barely 2 Months after the Passing of Queen Elizabeth ll, as well as a Beautiful Salute yo her, it also had a Salute to the 40th Anniversary of the Falkland's War.
WELL THAT WAS JUST FANTASTIC SUPER TO THE EXTREME , THANK YOU CONNER FOR SHOWING THIS 👏👏👏👏👌👌🤣👌👌👏👏🤷♀️
10 seconds in & I've got goosebumps
Superb rendition and so was your reaction Connor.
I appreciated the fact that you didnt keep stopping it as it would have spoilt the whole thing! Well done!!!
I had the pleasure of being associated with The Royal Marines for twenty years and I love each and every one. Please write to your new MP and demand that we reach 3% of GDP on Defence. Otherwise these fantastic bands will be further cut.
Imagine being a part of that. Your reaction was the best reaction. I’m tearing up, here.
A perfect reaction video. Total respect for the performance and commenting only after. Well done.
I am so delighted you reacted to this Connor. It is VERY beautiful is it not. Love from the UK
The auditions for places as a military band recruit are as tough, if not harder, than those for the Conservatoires (RCM, RAM, RNCM, etc) and all bandsmen and women must have Diploma standard in TWO instruments, minimum.
wow...thanks for sharing that Conor. I love Hans Zimmer and that was so beautifully orchestrated and choreographed; it is a long piece and must have taken so long to learn and rehearse. I appreciate your choice and variety of things to watch with us 😊👍
Conner every year the RM band perform a charity concert for veteran Marines and Navy and their families at the Albert Hall the full concerts are on their YT channel. They play a variety of music genres check them out
I find the Band of the Royal Marines even more mesmerising now - if that is possible! - as when I fist saw them live, over 40 years ago, in the Caves in the Rock of Gibraltar.
That must have been amazing.
That was your best reaction to date. Sometimes saying less is saying more.
Your expression was the best reaction Connor.. thank you for this stunning piece.. where did those 11 minutes go...thank you again.
Connor that was a genuine reaction. Words are not always necessary. Keep Reacting!
Great music from a great film . Absolutely terrific - thanks for this Connor .
Your best reaction ever; silence… The piece just leaves you speechless…
This is a fantastic version to listen to. Who would want to talk Connor.
Thanks for sharing I’m proud to be British
Thank you for sharing your reaction to this. Wonderful ❤
Spine chilling 🇬🇧
First time ive ever seen you react and not pause it once
Sometimes words are not necessary. In fact by not interrupting during the performance in itself spoke volumes. Enjoy the rest if your weekend. .... England just made it through (by the skin of their teeth) to the European Cup semi finals ❤
God I’m so proud of them ❤
Sitting there mesmerised by the performance was your reaction. Your facial expressions did the "talking" for you.
I’m going to see the Royal Marines perform at Horse Guards parade this evening. This video has totally set me up for what an incredible evening it is sure to be!
Beautiful reaction from you Connor🎉
I thought i should have talked a little more but i was just mesmerized by the performance. Thanks for the comment! 😊
@@McJibbin Hans Zimmer in a nutshell :P
Thanks. Your reaction at the end was fantastic.
I've got tickets for a concert by the RM School of Music this month. They're good even before they've completed their three years of training.
You should see them doing prodigy tunes….
So glad you decided to react to this. I love the British military bands. Esp the RM. When the 5 guards band are enmass they too sound brilliant, when returning from Trooping the Colour this year all the Irish tunes were great as tribute to the Irish guards whose colour was trooped. If anyone is ever down just watch the short Micks march video 😊
You should hear them playing recently with Iron Maiden drummer at the Royal Albert Hall
the full concert is on their YT channel
Hi I'm British love watching your channel you should try one on cockney rhyming slang
We don't always need to say anything to give a reaction. Silence is the reaction on it's own
Conor you just needed some grass to be in heaven. You love your marching bands and uniforms 😂
It was a really good reaction, really what can you say about the best of the best
I really enjoyed watching that video of the band it was lovely so good
😍😍😍 although I like (some) electronic music very much. It will never ever beat real (classic) music like this 😊
Her name is Hannah Smithers. Check out The RM Mountbatten Festival of Music 2023, where she also sings with The RM Oceanaires Big Band sound.
Hannah Smither (the vocalist) has quite a pair of lungs on her, eh. Her, Kirsty Haines and Sam McIndoe are the powerhouses behind the Royal Marines' Band vocals.
This is the music from the film Gladiator with Russell Crowe
One of the best films I have ever seen along with The English patient.
One of the best songs tbh from a film for me, would of been great if they could of incorporated the household cavalry into the performance as the first time you hear the song its part of a cavalry charge but tbh I dont see how they could have.
Yes, you’re quite right as it would have required some inter-military cooperation as HM Royal Marines are Royal Navy and the Household Cavalry are Army 😊
Your face showed the reaction. It was beautiful
Live music is wonderful and these soldiers are the creme de la creme. As well as being the top quality soldiers they have to be able to play at least two instruments to a very high standard. Was she singing in Latin?
To answer your question, the vocals in the film Gladiator were predominantly/if not entirely the work of a rather curious Australian female vocal artist called Lisa Gerrard. She is known for making up her own 'gibberish' languages. It is often assumed the female vocalist parts of the musical score in Gladiator (2000) are Latin; not so. The sounds made are perhaps inspired by the sound of Latin, but it is actually not a real language. Or at least, it's a language which Lisa Gerrard made up. She does this a lot.
There is a form of music based on the human voice without feeling the need to adhere to a specific language. Another example of Lisa Gerrard doing this, is in the interesting film, 'The Mist' (2008), in the haunting and powerful musical piece called, 'The Host of Seraphim'. It _sounds_ broadly Levantine or perhaps Greco-Turkic. But in reality, it's just made up sounds (words are just that, set to a codex of codified meanings to those arrangements of letters and phonetics)
It's quite impressive how she can do this for a range of world music, blending things together. It can often catch people out. I've seen/heard plenty of folks over the years swear blind that the music in Gladiator is Latin, and I myself thought that The Host of Seraphim was highly accented Hebrew. But I was wrong. When I first watched the film, 'The Mist' (just earlier this year in 2024; after years of hearing good things about it) I didn't initially realise it was Lisa Gerrard singing. I was blindsided a bit. I was trying to figure out what the language was just by ear and I couldn't pinpoint it. That should have reminded me of Lisa Gerrard but I was enjoying the film so much that I didn't join the dots at first. After looking up the song because of how beautiful and haunting it was, I think realised it was Lisa Gerrard and I was kicking myself. It all made sense at that point.
So, there is your answer. Lisa Gerrard, singing the most beautiful gibberish you've ever heard. The Royal Marines Band have rendered it beautifully as well.
From the superb film Gladiator.
So beautiful. Thanks Connor
Filmed at Horse guards Parade i do believe in London.
Did anyone think it wasn't?
The best band in the world ❤
This is something to respond to, rather than react. That's what you did. I'm glad you decided to upload. I'm captivated by it!🏵🏵🏵🏵🏵
this is a video wjere you should react after as it ruins the performance so your absolutely r8ght fpr waiting til the end connor
We have all fallen in love with her. I think you have as well.
wow!
I love your channel brother 🇬🇧👍👍
beautiful
Are you not entertained?!
Have you seen the royal marines sing i vow to you my country.
Good video,, words not needed.
If you enjoyed The Bands of HM Royal Marines, You may be interested to see this. It's the Story of the Unknown Soldier & was told during the Festival of Remembrance at The Albert Hall. czcams.com/video/UixYxsPFoqc/video.html
👏👏
not saying anything says it all
I am curious. At 2:40 one of the marines on the left has something over its uniform. Why is that? What is it? What is the significance and history? Does anyone knows?
It's an antique leopard skin - skins are used across the British bands as a symbol. Starting in the 18th century, drummers and others originating from across the Empire would wear 'exotic' dress.
Thanks for the info. It is interesting that when i saw it, my first thought was of some of the ancient roman soldiers that wore leopard fur over their uniform. But i concluded that it should not be it and that the theme of the Gladiator should not have anything to do with it.
So the skin wearing comes from British bands. Where did they get it from, i wonder. When i am at the computer, i must take some time to look into their history. This seem interesting.
This music gets me every time and I enjoyed your reaction
The Royal Marines have a great band, nearly as good as the New Zealand Army Band
I don't know if you have reacted to any of the SAS raids. They are interesting. Not sure if that is your audience. I enjoyed the vid.
Now match THAT, Mr Putin!
Answering a question from an old video:
In the Armenian genocide, the thing is, Abdulhamid had ordered to kill many Armenians, and after 50 years Armenian bandits went to Turkish villages in order to eliminate the civilian Turks there to incorporate that land into Armenia, and killed thousands, and then the Ottoman Empire had forced ALL Armenians, no matter their age, gender, sicknesses or disabilities, to walk to Syria from Northeastern Turkey, and then more than a million Armenians died of fatigue. As a Turk, I have told you the entirety of the story, but most Turks will not talk about the Hamidian massacres or the +1M Armenian casualties because of them begn forced to walk barefoot to Syria, likewise most Armenians will deny that bandits have raided and massacred entire Turkish villages.
I would have preferred the music to be a little more musical.
Really? It is a marching military band of the very finest quality. Obviously it will not be the same as the familiar, purely orchestral, original arrangement
Sorry I dont like brass bands
The commercialisation of the British military.....like they don't have enough traditioal and stirring tunes of their own....
it's not like they are doing Take That. if any commerical / movie soundtrack is app for the RM , surely it's gladiator
When you have military musicians of such high standards as these, you must appreciate that they can and do play music from every genre - and rightly so. If you look at the YT examples of the annual Mountbatten Festival, Beating the Retreat, the Edinburgh Tattoo &etc, you will hear everything from Pop- through Jazz and Classical to Opera - with the added bonus of the "Traditional and Stirring" music to which your refer. In addition, there is always a piece of musuic written by a member or members of HMRM bands, and of course the many military marches which most Britis know well. However, even with their complete range of tastes, there will always be someone who is never satisfied. You call it commercialisation, but if it wasn't for that tiny facet, the RM's would not get the funding they richly deserve. Perhaps you should watch some of the American military bands which do not have the same broad spectrum (or levels of professionalism) as Britain's own. Personally, I thrive on the traditional British military marches, but there is more to music than that, and HMRM do provide the best there is.
I loved the music. It was magnificent. Musicians get tired of the same tunes, this was different and majestic. Why shouldn’t they play it?
