endwalker changed stuff so things like the monk, summoner, and astro are different than what was described here. Also it leaves out sage (my main) and reaper which released with endwalker.

    @BananaMellor Před rokem +48

This video is a little out of date, as there were a bunch of changes for Endwalker (including adding Reaper and Sage). Tanking is still pretty easy with tank stance generating absurd amounts of emnity. All tanks get some extra survivability in EW. For people starting their first tank, I generally suggest starting with Marauder/Warrior as it will have the easiest learning curve as well as crazy self healing. There's nothing wrong with the other tanks though. I just suggest being careful about starting with a tank at level 60 so you don't end up getting over your head in your first party content.
All melee positionals were toned down in endwalker, so it's less of an issue with True North covering the cases where you can't move where you want. Reaper seems to be a really solid addition with a low learning curve and reasonable output for its ease of use. I don't really have much more to add for the melee, other than they have different gear sets between them unlike every other role, so they can be a little more annoying to level up and gear multiple at once. For physical ranged, I started with Bard and still hold a certain love for it, but Machinist really is just more fun for me currently. Dancer isn't too bad but it can be a little too RNG and partner dependent for results.
On the casters front, Summoner got a complete overhaul and is probably the one with the easiest learning curve. The first 50 or so levels can be a little awkward, but the job really comes into its own when you get Trance and it becomes nearly as mobile as the physical ranged. This is just my opinion but black mage is mostly for tryhards, while Red Mage is an okay dps with great utility. For healers I think Conjurer/White Mage is a good starting choice, better to start at level 1 and build the fundamentals, similar to tanking. Don't be too scared by it, just don't give up due to mistakes while learning the role. I love healing overall, with the shield healers (Scholar and Sage) being my favorite, though they are better suited for players who know fights well enough to prepare shields before damage is done. Astrologian is also fun for people who like the idea of being a support and helping others do better damage, or for people who just want to hit more buttons per second.

As a Scholar main I'm absolutely not biased in any way shape or form, honest, but I believe that SCH is currently the 'easy' healer. Your fairy does most of the heavy lifting, especially later on when your ground aoe shield adds a fairly good regen in addition to damage reduction on a very short cooldown for what it does. On top of that your aoe is instant cast making positioning much easier, works as well as your single target dps spell all the way down to 2 targets and because it shares its base class with Summoner you get to keep Ruin II which let's you move and dps. Oh and as SMN or SCH level up so does the one you aren't currently playing meaning you get a free max level dps or healer to play with.
Tanking in FFXIV is quite comfy too tbh. All you need to do is press tank stance, tag a pull with a couple of aoes and you're tanking. Once you get more confident the tanks are designed to be able to survive wall-to-wall pulls but take it at your own pace and don't let people make you do pulls you aren't comfortable with. Against bosses it's exactly the same and thanks to a universal "raid language" you'll quickly pick up on what a tank buster looks like, what a party aoe looks like etc and which mitigation to use against them. I call tanking dps without positionals because although its daunting at the start it quickly becomes just like any other melee job.

I recommend starting at level 1 with Archer (which becomes Bard at level 30). This will give you a chance to see how the various boss fights work without having to stand in one spot, which lets you move out of the AoE markers more easily. As someone who is both a WoW and FFXIV vet (and someone who just now found this video), it helps more to compare jobs in FFXIV not to full classes in WoW, but rather to individual specs from each class since that's about as complex as they get.
Also, if you want to tank, definitely start with Marauder (which becomes Warrior) since it's simple and straightforward all the way to max level and probably even into the next expansion. If you want to try a healer, White Mage I think is still the easiest of them to pick up these days.

Especially since it's one of the few jobs that's core rotation doesn't really change as you level up. 90% of all the skills after 50 are just upgrades or quality of life skills.
While you won't understand until you get into HW and beyond, this means that when you get down synced back to ARR levels when you do roulettes and old extremes and such, the job still feels pretty complete. Unlike say paladin who doesn't get to use it's entire magic side of it's kit, or black mage whose rotation changes entirely every 10 levels, or reaper, which has is just missing huge chunks of its rotation at anything under level 80.

I main Machinist because it is a stripped-down Ranged Job that focuses on damage. I can focus on my man and the fight instead of tracking all these buffs, praying to RNGesus, dealing with positionals, etc. that Bard and Dancer deal with.
For Caster, Summoner and Red Mage are both preferred over Black Mage due to their mobility; Summoner is now a much simpler Job, albeit with some questionable changes (Ifrit, looking at you), and retains rez utility below L54 (which is when Red Mage gets Verraise), so I now prefer it over Red Mage in general.
For Healer, you're right that White Mage is most simple to handle, but the new Sage Job isn't that hard to pick up (other than having _Endwalker_ access and a Job at L70). Astrologian is how a Regen healer exclusively, as Sage is the new Shield healer Job; this puts Healers at two Regen and two Shield.
For Melee, I've found Dragoon to be most in line with how I prefer to play followed by Samurai; Monk gets crazy busy, as does Ninja, but the new Reaper Job (same prereqs as Sage) is fine and shares gear with Dragoon- but the VFX gets to be a bit much.
For Tanks, I prefer Warrior. I solo a lot, and when I can't do it as Machinist I go to Warrior and clear. Mad self-heals, tanky, high damage, etc. all combine into a beast of a Job that is nonetheless simple to run and easy to pick up. Dark Knight is okay, Paladin is worth unlocking, and Gunbreaker works once you get it, but Warrior tanks are dominant for the obvious reasons aforementioned.
The next expansion, _Dawntrail,_ will add at least one more Job and likely two. We don't know what they are yet, but they will require _Dawntrail_ access to pick up as well as one other Job at L80. (Please have one be a Scouting Job.)

    @TheTsunaru Před 11 měsíci

Gunbreaker is (imo) the most fun tank to play, but you unfortunately can't start with it. As far as the tanks go, at the start of the game you can pick either Marauder (becomes Warrior) or Gladiator (becomes Paladin). Playing as Dark Knight requires you to finish all of A Realm Reborn and make it into Heavensward content, since the NPC to unlock it is in the first HW city, and then you have to level it from 30-50 before you can take part in any of the content for the level you're at. And Gunbreaker can be unlocked at any time so long as you have a job at level 60 and have the Shadowbringers expac. It unlocks in Gridania, and won't require you to level at all to use it in your current stage of content provided you unlock it straight as soon as you get to level 60.

I started as Bard and like it a lot still. I think it is on the easier side for beginners. You can still walk so get easier out of aoe without losing damage. Has a fairly easy rotation that naturally gets added to without throwing off all your built up muscle memory every time and aside from doing damge you have 2 responsibilities, keeping your dots up and using your buffs. Both of those you'll do naturally as those are big parts of your damage rotation anyway.

Lemme introduce you to the start-of-game classes:
Archer: Super simple (TOO simple for some people, early on) but gets an unlimited sprint like 10 levels before anyone gets a mount so it's nice for zooming around. Put a DoT on with poisoned arrows and then use regular shots until they proc better shots.
Thaumaturge: Pretty explosions. Lots of standing still, but if you can get away with that you have some of the highest damage.
Arcanist: You get a cute little carbuncle. You go back and forth between "give myself a buff to my basic attack and spam that" phase and "use my better attacks" phase.
Gladiator and Marauder: Turn on tank stance, use your 1-2 combo (eventually 1-2-3), use your damage buff button whenever you can. When you're in a dungeon early advice is to have one kind of mitigation up all the time. So use the general defense button, then the "make enemies weaker" button when that's running out, and so on.
Conjurer: Attacks are just placing a DoT and then spamming your attack spell until it's time to refresh the DoT. You can probably get away with waiting to heal until the tank's at 50% or lower, early on.
Pugilist: Fastest attacker. Probably the most complicated early on. If you want to keep pushing buttons and keep your brain busy, this is for you.
Lancer: Give yourself attack buffs and do two combos - one to buff yourself and lay down a DoT and another to do big hits. Also you can Jump attack, but since it auto-returns you to where you were it's functionally just a ranged attack you can do between other attacks for bonus damage now and then.
Rogue: Becomes available to swap to when you get another job to 10. Debuffs enemies so they take extra from everyone, and has a 1-2-3 combo that does extra on the 3rd hit if you attack from behind.
Everything else gets unlocked later. That's what the guides don't mention, when everyone who watches them is making decisions about what to play.
These starter classes all upgrade into a job with more power at level 30, with Arcanist getting two (Scholar for shield-healer and Summoner continuing as magic DPS).
The other combat job unlocks are:
Get a combat job to 50: Red Mage and Samurai
Beat ARR baseline: Blue Mage (weird mini-game job that plays different from everything else)
Start Heavensward: Machinist and Dark Knight
Get a combat job to 60: Gunbreaker and Dancer
Get a combat job to 70: Reaper and Sage

I used to be a WHM main ever since XI, but due to the changes over time I fell out of love with it in XIV. The job is just too simple, plus it's main advantage of having big heals is mostly useless since almost every class can heal themselves to some extend, meaning utility is generally more important. And well that's where WHM drew the short end of the stick. Nowadays I main either Scholar or Dragoon depending on what is needed.
Just a general tip since not all the jobs are available from the start in the meantime you might want to look into one that is. Basically every job that came out with an expansion has a level requirement starting at 50,60,70 and 80, the older the expansion the lower the requirement.
For quick progression you might wanna pick up a tank or a healer since their queues usually pop instantly unlike DPS which may take a couple of minutes to pop since there's far more of those around usually.

For a first tank as a newbie, I strongly recommend you start with Marauder/Warrior, it is by far the easiest to learn and the most player friendly and has the best recovery from messing up, and if you master the Job, you are literally Doomguy, an unkillable monster slaying machine. I personally main Dark Knight as a tank because..well, they use a BFS, and what is there not to like about BFS'?
As for Melee DPS, Lancer is a solid pick because it has really good survivability and the highest defense out of all DPS characters which gives you good leeway, you just..need to learn how to time your jumps. It is also what I main from the DPS jobs and Aesthethically this job just oozes style and at a high level it's so fun, as you are always on the move doing fancy acrobatic moves.
Ranged, well, Archer/Bard is the only real starting option here, but it's a very busy job so I wouldn't recommend it for beginners, however you can unlock Dancer once you get any other job to lvl 60, Dancer has a high support kit and is also very fun to play due to how agile it is. I personally main Machinist as a ranged DPS, because they are just so god damn COOL.
For mages, your starting choice is between Arcanist and Thaumaturge. Now, Thaumaturge/Black mage is hella strong, but it is an absolute chore to level it, so I'd recommend you go for Arcanist instead, because it later splits into 2 Jobs, Summoner and Scholar, a DPS caster and Healer respectively, so levelling one, levels the other. Now, summoner is probably the easiest Caster to play now (it used to be the most difficult job of them all before the rework), but Scholar on the other hand is probably the most difficult Healer. It's more of an enabler for everyone else in your team as opposed to a straightout healer(which makes sense if you consider the lore), which can make it very busy but very rewarding and requires some understanding of fight mechanics. It's what I main as a Healer and I find it to be the most fun out of all the healers. Amongst caster DPS, I main Redmage, because I personally depise playing Magic caster classes in games, but Redmage has a good balance of caster and fighter and it's much busier and more agile than a run of the mill caster like Black Mage.
Speaking of healers, if you are not interested in the aformentioned Arcanist double path, Conjurer/White Mage is the most traditional and basic healer you can think of in an MMO setting and it's easy to play. Astrogian however easily has the most beautiful skill effects in the game, it also used to be the most busy and difficult Healer before its rework, and it is getting ANOTHER rework in Dawntrail.
In the end all Jobs however are viable, and with EW most of them have been homogenized so in the endgame there is little to no difference between them except for small % in dps output so you can play whatever Job that you like the look of the most.

People in FFXIV are very tolerant to new players/new tanks, of course there are some bad apples, but I've never seen my sister get flamed/kicked when playing with her even when she made mistakes.
I also agree with what Rivvy said. Tanking is probably the easiest role in the game until you get to the extremely hard fights later in the game when your tanking position, dps, cooldown usage ect. becomes more important.

@@LaccreVT Ditto to just about everything said here, but there's one more benefit to being the tank. Tanks come with "tank privaledge" for learning new fights. Because you are so "tanky" you can make more mistakes and stay alive longer then the rest of your party. Your healer may grumble, but it's better then being a DPS, making one error, and end up tanking the floor because it was the one mistake they just couldn't make.
Also be aware this video is out of date, Paladin got a whole rework in a recent patch, and the Dark knight invuln skill is actually good now! :D

For healer I actually find that Scholar is easier for me than White Mage. The fairy carries easily early game, and late game, the shields will assist in stopping damage while you actually heal. It also reduces the work you need to do if you can throw shields on everyone for a large AOE, and use your fairy AOE HOT. That way you reduce the damage everyone takes and still manage to heal them while you can focus on the tank without too many issues.
But every person has preference to jobs. I've had someone tell me they don't understand scholar and prefer white mage, it's all good.

I have a preference for each role actually. For healer it's a no brainier, white mage. Because I am walking immortality with that moveset and the blood lilies must be quenched.
For tank I love paladin because you get a few abilities that make it feel satisfying. Like when I use my get behind me, I'm a WALL ability that makes anyone directly behind me take less damage. Or the ability to just sponge a portion of the damage your homie gets hit by so they don't get bullied by a big attack.
For dps I can not rain enough praise on dragoon. The class quests actually have a legitimately interesting story compared to most. The class quests armor sets you get through normal progression are NAME BRAND my friend. Clean fits are the true end game to mmo's after all. Plus it has an easy flexible dare I say dopamine spiking level of mobility compared to most classes. The "dive" abilities for example will instantly close the distance between you and the big bad but there's also an ability for jumping backwards to avoid mechanics. But oh no I'm a melee and I just jumped away, the boss is done with the mean attack but now I have to wal- oh wait DIVE! Dang that's on cool down. I'd walk to the boss but I have no time before it jumps again the rascal... Oh WAIT! My favorite ability of the dragoon is probably one most players think of the least. It isn't hard hitter, it doesn't combo impressively into or around something awesome, it's just continuing to do damage even though the game tried to tell you no.Wgat is it? It's simply chucking your spear at the dumb monsters face! I call it snarpooning. (a joke my friends made about irl cone snails having a deadly snail harpoon btw) Lterally everytime I have to jump away? SNARPOON! Everytime THE BOSS jumps away? Somebody wants to be @&$_$@ snarpooned CLEARLY! Tank wants to pull every gd mob in three plains of existence just two inches ahead of where literally anyone can do anything? I'll STEAL some of your agro I'll be snarpooning so fiercely. And if you get offended and stop tanking? I can just turn on vampire mode, pop my self heal, and use a potion as needed to essentially baby tank complete with a %10 damage reduction I can slap on whatever mob is spoopiest.
I literally had a scenario yesterday where I popped my "crit... GUARANTEED!" ability to hasten the defeat of a frankly childish pull (I'm talking 15 mobs easy and man's was in a level 50 instance...) and the wave of crits that I unleashed generated so much agro the entire pool of them turned on me... Sparking an argument between the healer and tank blaming each other the entire rest of said instance. I couldn't tell them it was my fault for throwing a wind scar at that army as I'm on console and typing is just not happening on my end mid instance. My point is if it's a DPS class capable of accidentally being TOO good at their job, I'm on it.

in high end content tanks might just be the easiest role in progression scenarios only losing to healers once your group learns the fight properly and gets better gear. They might be look scary, I had the same fears when I began playing, but I assure you the role is a lot easier than you might think. Paladin and Warrior are both on the lower end of the skill ceiling for tanks with Dark Knight and Gunbreaker looking more like actual dps jobs during openers and burst phases, which means they press a lot of buttons every 2 min. Warrior specially is very easy at all levels and has the best self-sustain in the game outside of healers of course, Paladin has sustain as well but it cost a lot of MP and you have to stop attacking so if you wanna avoid it if you wanna maximize your damage.

Try to get a class for every role, so if you have a team or they need a certain role before going in, you can easily jump in and be that person that seems like an expert at everything.
A meele / tank / range / magic / and of course healer. Start slow when trying another class, we of FF14 are usually quite forgiving to people if they mess up.
There is also so much side content as well if you only rushed to endgame so you could raid with friends, Hildabrand / Gold Saucer / Glam hunting / the works!

Red mage gained a few extras with endwalker, things like their big spells at the end of the melee combo are now AOE, theres 2 of them that then combo into Revolution which is a line AOE where you spin your sword and rose petals and thorns project to the target.
Part of the fun for me is experimenting with the other jobs, I enjoy Magical DPS but honestly, my favorite to recommend to someone is Summoner. Mostly because it co-levels up Scholar, because they both have the same base class. So in a pinch you could try out healer now and then as you progress you DEEPS!
Blue mage is not often shown off in these because they are locked out of a lot of content and was partial a meme/event job and it has some interesting ways of how they play!

Tanking is generally great for new players because they get access to "Tank Privilege" in which the tank gets to fuck up and not get punished for it, at least until you reach 90. You also get the benefit of faster queue times. Though there is only really a noticeable difference between tanks at the highest end, however you never actually need to be a good tank to clear content. Personally I think Pugilist is the best starting class, if you don't want to tank. A Pugilist will gain access to their 1,2,3 combo at level 6, and their first AoE at level 26. Healing or Healer classes/jobs can sometimes be a trap. The general gameplay that you will experience as a new player playing the healer role can gravely make a new player complacent, furthermore the general leveling experience will not teach a new healer how to perform in that role properly. Casters can range from easy to the hardest job in the game, in the order of Summoner, Red Mage, BLACK MAGE. To play a Black Mage is to suffer, in more ways than one. Physical Ranged jobs, are mostly easy, but Dancer can suffer from having a bad dance partner, which you won't notice unless you're doing end-game raiding usually.

Also, the community is pretty good toward new people. Just let people know when you enter a dungeon, you will get help, and if the heals is experienced, they will know to adjust for you since you are learning. but above all else, Have fun, nothing (except the main scenario quests) is mandatory, and fun is the ultimate goal :) Good Luck in your journey.

If youre new, try to minimize, how many characters you try. It will ruin your experience. Every class basically has 1 rotation. Some will try to argue. Don't listen to them. There's 1 rotation per class with varying RNG procs for that class. Ninja's... theyre ok. If you're a masochist, that is. For tanking off the start Warrior is fun, and the quest gets hilarious as it goes on. For ranged starting out I think bard is your only option until later, machinist is the first to unlock I think in Heavensward content. If you want to caster/healer combo do Summoner/Sage since leveling 1 levels both and you just have to do the class quests of both. Also schollar healing is very easy initially as the fairy handles most of the needed healing leaving you free to press your 1 DPS button and 1 DOT. Then you can swap you caster to Red Mage later.

I played Black Mage since the beginning. A lot changed in 10 years but I managed to clear every raids, trials, and ultimate with it during their relevancy. So don't let anyone tell you Black Mage aren't viable in certain things. To be a good Black Mage, you need to main the ABC (Always be casting) even when you are moving. You'll have several utilities to allows you to instant cast spells. You'll have to decide when to use it. And further more, you'll be forced to pay attention to each boss attacks and learn their pattern. While reading the floor texture like a braille. All these may be overwhelming but it's repetitive. During the fight, you'll start to see the pattern of all things including your spell rotations to a tee. I was glad I became a Black Mage first because switching to other caster role made things a lot easier. And also, it helps you have an edge because of the skills you picked up in Black Mage.

A lot of the jobs are fun and have their benefits, just pick which ever aesthetic you like most and run with it. Gunbreaker for me because sword go bang.

I mainly play Dark Knight, but have experience with every single job in the game. If you want to get into tanking, I'd highly recommend Dark Knight, or Warrior as they're both quiet straightforward. Gunbreaker is very fun, but can be quiet difficult. Paladin is not hard, but it's just not as straight forward as Warrior and Dark Knight. Red Mage is a very very fun job that sits at the perfect level of difficulty for me, highly recommend. Machinist is very fun as well, but the gun aesthetic didn't mesh with me. If you want to try healer, then I highly recommend Sage. By far the most fun healer. If you're looking for a starting class though, Dragoon has the best & most relevant story line to the main story, whilst also being incredibly fun.

@@LaccreVT not all Classes/Jobs are available right away. For starters you can choose between Marauder/Warrior, Gladiator/Paladin, Lancer/Dragoon, Archer/Bard, Pugilist/Monk, Conjurer/Whitemage and Arcanist.
Arcanist is special because after lvl 30 you can either become a Summoner or a Scholar and since both originate from Arcanist you`ll get experience for both, so if your go Summoner your Scholar will be always the same lvl without playing it since they share Exp.
Rogue/Ninja can be unlocked at lvl 10.
the following jobs start at the lvl you unlock them.
Darkknight/Machinist/Astrologien can be unlocked after you have another Combatjob at lvl 30 and have reached the first expansion Heavensward in the Mainstoryquest.
Redmage/Samurai can be unlocked once you have another combatjob at lvl 50.
      Dancer/Gunbreaker at lvl 60.
      Reaper/Sage at lvl 70.
The video from Larry is pretty old at this point and some things have changed/got reworked like Summoner or Monk.
Usually all Jobs have their basekit at lvl 60, which translates to their core-ability-rotation beeing available at that lvl with the exception of Redmage/Gunbreaker only really feeling complete at 70 and Reaper at 80 because of the Skills they unlock at that lvl.
Arcanist/Summoner get their base-rotation at lvl 26 and Monk get theirs at lvl 30.

  • @janrautenstrauch4729
    @janrautenstrauch4729 Před 11 měsíci

Best Melee: Samurai with Reaper close on 2nd place. Flashy, big damage and the combos are anything but hard to learn.
Best Range: well technically it is Bard in endgame but in the early levels he's so weak and boring and i like the Dancer much more. So Dancer Nr.1 and Machinist Nr2 (cause his base rotation is so mindblowing boring and he lacks support-abilites).
Best Mage: Redmage. Yeah Blackmage has potentially higher damage but he plays so slow, static and boring and lacks any support (no heal or revive). Redmage is just so unique with the combination of dual-cast-mechanic and close-combat-bursts.
Best Heal: Astrologue. While i do like white mage and sage, both can run out of mana much easier than astrologue and his version of cure II is much better than the white mages.
Best Tank: Paladin. Yeah damage-wise he's worse than all the others but he's the toughest nut to crack for any boss. Still i like warrior more in terms of style - a solid 2nd place.

Tanking is really not that difficult, the main thing to remember is to turn on the tank stance at the start of every dungeon, raid or trial. The FF14 community is very helpful and welcoming with tank sprouts, I am one tank sprout. Just let them know that you are new and they will understand. You can start by pulling 2 or 3 enemy groups instead of going wall to wall in dungeons. At the beginning is better to go slowly because you will not have as many mitigation abilities, the dps probably will not have aoe attacks unlocked and healers will have limited abilities too. Use your mitigation for trash mobs instead of saving them for bosses. Bosses auto attacks are no problem, only the tank busters might require the use of one of your mitigation abilities. And in my opinion tanking is more fun than healing or dps, I play white mage and summoner too but my main is warrior.

Both Machinist and Red Mage unlock at level 50 once you reach Heavensward. You will need to start with something else (or buy a level boost? not sure you can skip ARR MSQ). The only physical range DPS available at start is Bard. There is more choice on the magical dps side (Black Mage, Summoner). A lot of people start with Summoner because it levels the scholar automatically at the same time. You get a healer for the same effort basically.
Imo, if you intend to mainly play range, I would actually suggest to start with a melee job. I started playing the game as Bard and then switched to Machinist. I was quite frankly terrible at it. Always taking AoEs and not understanding how to avoid anything. Then I started to level melee jobs and that is when it actually clicked. The game is designed so that melee dps can actually do damage and avoid big AoEs. Range dps jobs can move freely, but it does not mean that they should move all the time or always stay as far as possible from the action. Good placement is often more important than high moblity. Good placement is usually closer to the boss than what you expect at first.
