Great reaction. Love that song and The B52's since a teenager in the late 70's. Might I recommend "Come Back Jonee" by DEVO released 1978? I have a feeling you might like it.

Ironically, The B52's are probably one of the most straight-laced mainstream rock bands ever. I've never heard of them doing anything harder than pot and they are well known for being one of the hardest touring bands of all time. It's hard to imagine now because music isn't as creative as it was in the 1970's but their brand of fun madness is a result of their natural creativity.
They definitely used to pick magic mushrooms with plastic grocery bags out of cow patties on UGA cattle research farms back in the 70s, but I think shrooms were as crazy drug-wise as they ever got.

Back in the golden days in Athens Ga. (Late 70s early 80s)they were definitely doing LSD mushrooms and MDMA at that time.

It's sad to me how whenever anyone does something even slightly unusual, so many people say; they are on drugs, they are taking LSD. It's as if it's never occurred to them that artists can be imaginative and creative, or draw inspiration from Science Fiction. The music that I myself write is similarly unusual, and I can assure you, I have never "dropped acid" in my entire life. Some of us just take a different and unique approach to music. You don't NEED to be on drugs to have an imagination. All you need is to ask yourself, "what sort of song might people of the future generation sing to each other if they set a personal ad to music?" When The B-52s asked themselves that question, this was the result. This is not really all that incomprehensible.
