    Thank you Joe. I am leaving early to mid April of 2018. It is almost the same time you did. So this was helpful for sure!

      How was your trip man? My Dad and I are starting April 1st. Any advice for a winter pilgrim? Thanks

    I am also considering mid April start. I would like to hear more about your rain situation. Was it many days of downpour? Did you bring poncho, goretex shoes, rain pants etc? How did you keep yourself and gear dry? Are there drying machine at the albergues to dry wet stuff?

    Thanks for the video. I will be going about the same time next year, mid April. Your weather info was very helpful! You stated you went on to Finesterre and finished up May 21. Was that straight thru, or did you take 0 days along the way. Im trying to decide how many days to allow before my return ticket home. Also in regards to your pack and poles, did you check them as checked luggage? Or carry on? If you checked it, did you use a transporter type cover (Osprey, S2S, etc) or just shrink-wrap at the airport?

      kjm27434 hey! I flew out on April 13th arrived in Madrid at 8am on the 14th and traveled to St Jean on the 15th. That left me with 35 or 36 days to do the walk to Fisterra. A lot of my Camino friends went on to Portugal after I went home. If I could do it over I would have stayed another week just to leave time to explore afterwards. The beaches in Portugal look amazing. We took a zero in Burgos, 3or 4 in Santiago and a couple more in another town that I can’t recall. I am a fast hiker (finishing the PCT in a couple of weeks) but I slowed down on the Camino because I fell into a good group of friends and we all walked together.
      On the way there, I took everything as a carryon. I was ok leaving the US with my trekking poles as a carryon. Most of the time I’ve had no issue with them with in the US. On my way home, I was not allowed to bring them on the plane leaving Madrid. In the airport they have these shrink wrap stations for 10€. I put the poles with my pack and then wrapped it all up and checked the bag.
      Enjoy it! I’ll be back out there someday. Follow me here @talljoehikes

      Thanks Joe! I was debating on 45 days and I think I'll stick with that then. Extra time to explore during/after without feeling too rushed. Im looking at flying straight into BIQ via MAD from US spending maybe 2 nights in SJPP then taking off. I'll have to follow you on your finish up of the PCT! I just got done following Dixie on her PCT and so jealous of anyone that can do it. Camino next spring and maybe Vermont LT later next fall. Happy Trails!

    Thank you! I would suggest you either speak louder or more clearly. It was hard to hear you when you added info about an item. For example, what app did you use for El Camino? I am doing the Camino Norte/Primitivo to Santiago late summer 2018.

    Hey Tall Joe, I can't quite tell, are you including the clothes you wear in the 13.2 lbs or not? I know some people keep clothing you wear out of backpack weight, as it is carried differently. So was it 13.2 lbs for ALL your clothing and hiking shoes and everything, or 13.2 for backpack weight.

    • @TallJoeHikes
      @TallJoeHikes  Před 7 lety

      Wander with Intent hey! I honestly can't remember. I want to say that this is not including my running shorts, blue shortsleeve and 1 pair of socks. Shoes are definitely not included. Are you planning a trip?

    • @WanderwithIntent
      @WanderwithIntent Před 7 lety +2

      I have already been. I am a small female, my pack was 10 lbs even with a few Cliff bars as well. Mine was not including my clothes I was wearing.
      I walked the Frances route, continued on to Muxia, as well as Fisterra. I had a blast. I will be doing a similar video soon. 13.2 lbs is a great weight. Even most females I know that went had heavier bags.

    • @TallJoeHikes
      @TallJoeHikes  Před 7 lety

      Wander with Intent everyone I saw had huge packs except for the people getting off the bus. I started in St Jean and went on to Fisterra. I wish I had the time for Muxia. Happy trails!

    Hey Joe.... really appreciate the light pack for Camino. I'm going on my second Camino with a 30L pack. How did you get your polls in/out of USA and Spain? Any tips for getting through security at either end?

    • @TallJoeHikes
      @TallJoeHikes  Před 7 lety +2

      I didn't have an issue on the US side. They let me just carry them on board. Coming home though out of Madrid was a problem. I ended up paying one of the guys in the airport to wrap my whole bag in plastic wrap with cardboard over the trekking pole tips. That's the only way they would let me check the bag and poles together.

    Hi Tall Joe. I'm going in October 2018. What dollar amount did you spend each day? What's a safe amount to budget for?

    • @TallJoeHikes
      @TallJoeHikes  Před 6 lety +2

      Hey Toura! I would plan on €30 -€40 / day. Alburgues are between €5 and €12/ night. Breakfast is about €5, lunch €5 - €10 and dinner was around €10. It can be done for a little less but it was nice to splurge on a hotel every now and then and also to enjoy a few drinks with new friends. Hope that helps! Enjoy!!!

    Hi there, what was the name of the app u used,and was it for ISO or android. Thanks

    • @kmcca204
      @kmcca204 Před 6 lety +1

      He used the Guthooks Guide. Its available IOS for sure (I use it all the time section hiking on the Appalachian Trail), and I believe Google Play store also has it for Android. Highly recommend all of Guthooks Guides while hiking, I'll be using it for Camino next spring. Its one app, that lets you purchase many different hikes inside the app including Camino. I think Camino hike was $8 but after downloading you get the first section SJDPP to Pamplona free to test out the functions and then decide if you want to purchase the entire Camino or not.

      Theodore Rzepski I like La Sportiva Wildcats but any comfortable trail runner, walking shoe, running shoe would be great. I am definitely on the no boots side of thing but everyone is different. Hope that helps.

      @@Wellsymusic In my experience I've always preferred trail runners. Both the boots and Hoka's will get wet but the Hoka's will dry out quicker. In the end though its your decision and whatever you feel is more comfortable. Good luck and enjoy!
