- Meet the maker of the original Salsa mountain bikes, Ross Shafer. In this fun interview, Ross discusses the early (and often wild) days at Salsa Cycles, his inspiration, and what's next for this MTB pioneer. The bike shown in this video, Salsa #5, is on display along with other notable vintage bicycles, at The Pro's Closet's Vintage Bicycle Museum in Boulder, CO.

Great to see my bike get the exposure it deserves. I was not on acid when I painted it. Acid is one thing I haven't done. Awesome vid, Tasshi.
Wish it was longer!
Love the CSNY steel riff at the end!!!
I had a friend in high school that said she was related to him. Never go a bike, but she gave me a sticker. Wish I had gotten a bike. This was 1987 to 1990. I worked at South Coast Bike shop in Santa Ana, now closed. It was a big shop. Such a creative time of moutain bike developments. John Grafton came to the shop a few times. GT and Cook Brothers were also in Santa Ana. Klein, Mountain Goat, Specialized and others were big sellers. Too bad I was only making $5.25 an hour. I bought a Rockhopper comp. Also sold Bontrager. The Race lite was the best. Good times. Sure did not realize their significance at the time.
Thank you Ross. I have a Salsa Ala Carte 92 original owner I ride it EVERY DAY!!!!
As a proud owner of 1994 Salsa A La Carte Frame, Thank you for the awesome video!
+Hong Lee Thank you!
I went to Salsa Fest a year. A ton of kids paddled my canoe around all day long, and had a ton of fun. I drank a thousand beers. Thanks Ross!
Love these videos.

Interview Gary Klein. Perhaps the most ahead of his time...
