- There's a new budget Holy Panda switch in town, and they deserve more love. The TECSEE Purple Pandas are a 5-pin, 68g switch that feel very close to Holy Pandas for more than half the cost. The housing is made out of PME, which is some kind of special blend, which gives the switch a more muted sound profile. There's also the Blue Velvet PME Tactile & Coffee Chip Ice Cream switches, which I haven't tried, but I'm willing to bet they're just recolors from reading the product descriptions.
U4Ts are my #1 tactile switch, these are my #2. I find the downstroke on the U4Ts to be more satisfying, but Purple Pandas feels more like a Holy Panda vs the U4Ts.

Just wanted to say, I ordered some Glorious Pandas a few weeks ago for my first custom build and made an impulse decision to return them to sender and order these instead after watching this video. 68 lubed switches later and I am incredibly happy with the decision; these feel quite smooth and have a really satisfying deep sound signature on my build. Thanks for recommending them!
My goodness Jimmy, I just bought the 90 pack without hesitation. Comes in June 27th . This rabbit hole is crazy
it's kinda weird to think that a 1 month wait time is actually not bad in comparison to other things....like gmk sets
@@jimmynguyen973 no because I saw this comment when it was new and I still haven’t gotten my Gmk set so yes indeed
I can't wait for my set to arrive 😁 should be here soon just delayed.
This was a great review!
Thanks for this. My Purple Pandas arrived today. I lubed them and put them into my keyboard and I must say they feel and sound better in my opinion than both Drop Holy Pandas and Glorious Pandas!
The set you buy from Amazon comes with a re-usable box, switch/key puller and 100 58g 2-stage springs so it's well worth the price
I'm a beginner in this hobby I got these as my first switch replacement in an RK 84 and my goodness were they an improvement on the stock browns the board came with. I haven't even lubed them (cause I haven't tried that ever) but I'm super satisfied, I can only imagine once I finally do lube them.
Glad you like them, I’m enjoying them too. If you do decide to lube them, they sound even nicer, but be careful not to lube the legs or it diminishes the tactile feel too much, at which point you may as well have gotten linears. There are some good guides on the Internet and CZcams about how to lube tactile switches without overdoing it
I just got them from ali and I lubed them up with 3204 and they sound and feel amazing! Paid 35 CAD on ali those are budget tactile king for sure.
Tecsee have made some pretty good switches so far so with them gaining notoriety, i feel like the recent price increases are justified but still sad to see. Luckily i hopped on these before the lastest price hikes. I’m really looking forward to their latest release which I just preordered on bespoke keys, they’re the Diamonds for $6.95 per 10pk. I already have carrots and CCIC so i have faith in their ability to to make good switches.
i picked myself up some of these and they're great
I have literally waited only 2 weeks but I keep seeing sounds tests and stuff because I’m nervous but can’t wait! It has felt like a year in those 2 weeks
I finnaly found perfect budget switch
(Jk the price went back down, wonder if it'll stay)
Unfortunately the price has increase on Aliexpress to about $.50 a switch ($0.43 a switch if you get 110). They're still great at that price, would choose them over Glorious Pandas & probably other Panda variants, but it's no longer at a banger deal.
Holy Boba testing (with the 68g Purple Panda spring):
Overall, Holy Bobas with Purple Panda stems felt stickier than the one with Halo stems. I'm guessing the purple panda stem is a bit thicker so it collides with the Boba housing more. One of the stem actually had some extra material left on the stem that's hard to remove, so it couldn't return for the upstroke at all. Halo stems are better for Holy Bobas.
Zykos testing (with 67g zeal spring):
I only have 2 Zeal v2 bottom housing, one clear Zealios v2, one Aqua zilents, and unfortunately the leaf on my aqua zilent bottom results in a better tactile feeling than the zealios one (which can be an issue with creating Zykos, in theory both bottoms should be the same). I tried both bottoms with both stems, and I managed to tell which one Zykos was the aqua zilent bottom both times. This doesn't mean I can say 100% you can use Purple Panda stems instead of Halo stems for Zykos, but both times the Zykos w/ aqua bottom felt like a strong tactile switch
great! do they have any pre-travel or the round tactile bump is placed right at the top ?
Hell ya, I was looking for new stems :p
Just got these in yesterday, stuck them in my ghetto-ass modded pre-built. They feel fantastic. Maybe it's just my personal preference, but they both feel and sound amazing, especially for the 21 dollars you can snag them for. Very few switches even make it into that 30 c/switch category, especially not ones that I personally feel can compete with the big boys. If you're going for a build on a tight budget, and really want that nice tactile feel, you can't go wrong with these. Nice vid also.
They definitely compete above their weight class! And that's a good call out about the 30 cent /switch. When you search for budget tactiles, you get recommendations for switches that costs 55 cent or more, which used to be budget, but that's pretty much the status quo these days. These are truly budget, and perform very well.
have you seen the Tecsee Ruby and Sapphire switches? If so, what's you opinion judging from the materials and pics, thinking about ordering some.
I have the TECSEE Purple Pandas, lubed and filmed. They sound so nice. I'm surprised at how good the turned out. I'd definitely go for this over many more expensive switches.
is this a light tactile or something more on the heavier side like boba u4ts?
Anyone know how close these housings are to YOK or Invry Panda housings? If I want to make a switch that needs Panda housings but not Halo stems, would these be a decent substitute?
Just received this today for a custom build for my friend
A bit late to the show but I’ve just got these for my second keyboard. I wouldn’t really agree these can replace GPs since imo they feel significantly different. These have noticeably less tactility. These also have less travel and they sound deeper lubed (compared to lubed GPs). Even though I prefer GPs and ping isnt an issue at all for me (btw GPs have way less ping than eg a much more expensive sunflowers that I have in another build) I will still be using these but might swap springs to two stage springs.
good choice on that bee microphone
Are these good stock? and was the sound test stock or lubed?
Do they have interference with cherry profile keycaps?
Hi. How do these compare to the akko cs lavender purple switches
Hey bro, what is better: Feker Holy Pandas or TECSEE Purple Pandas?
These sound higher pitched than my Moyu Blacks... Very happy with these switches. Filmed and lubed with the 58g long springs. Go with the long springs.
I'm still learning about all the (seemingly endless) switch choices, so thanks for leaving links! Would you recommend filming them, and w/any particular film?
i dont really think you need to film them, but some people like to film anyways for a deeper sound. i always use deskeys film
@@jimmynguyen973 I just ordered purples for a first build kit (ID80v1) and will just grab lube then.
I was looking at Deskeys when I asked you, but was worried about their thickness after your wobble test. Thanks!
Great video! Very informative. Are they very heavy though? Thinking of getting some of these myself, but I'm worried the weight might be too heavy and my fingers might get tired
at 68g, i would say these are on the heavier side
Which would be a better choice
Purple pandas or watermelon shakes
you should try the Huano Holy Toms. I'm waiting for mine to come in, but they easily have the most comical name of all the Holy Panda clones.
Jimmy have you tried Boba U4Ts? People really really like them, and just wondering how you compare them to these.
I like em too, they’re my #1 choice these would be my #2. The bump on the U4T feels stronger
I bought these on your recommendation from Aliexpress - I'm 50/50 on these. Nice when they work but poor quality/finish for the 62 gram ones. All of them have unfinished plastic flakes inside that are still stuck to the housing. They will most likely flake off in time but difficult to remove, you'd have to go in there with a tweezer. I've lost 4 switches out of 35. They were just unacceptably scratchy when lubed/filmed, and put back together. Also, the little flakes makes putting on the film the most difficult to get on of any switch I've filmed so far. The film catches on the plastic pendant pieces and you have to wrangle it in. I bought 90 switches - not confident I'll have enough left over after the lubing process to fill a 75%.
Once you get to the lubed and filmed point, I will say it feels and sounds really nice. Prefer it over my pewters/gat browns/cap browns/tealios. I haven't tried any Pandas and my U4Ts haven't come in yet but these are my favorite tactiles. However, it is almost certain that the inside of the switch will get contaminated over time, not sure how that will affect the smoothness of the switch.
If you gonna buy, buy more extras than you would normally. I'd say 100 for a 75% board to be safe - especially if it's coming from a slow boat from China.
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it seems like the quality control on these isn't great, I didn't have the issues you mentioned. I'm starting to realize switch quality control is a somewhat common problem from reading other people's experiences, even for the Bobas.
Hi how's your opinion now that you have tried the u4t? I personally like coffee chip which seems smoother. The u4t feel more tactile though.
Post lubing sound and feel is great, but man that PME flaking was pretty bad on my switches bottom housings...
Are these pre lubed from factory?
cant hear the dffference between lubed and stock on the purple pandas. just got them today and they are damn smooth. got them with the gmmk pro 75% the only thing is the stabs are overlubed on the backspace. other than that im happy with the swithce.
Your channel is so freaking good. Especially for people wanting to get into MK's :D
(couldn't be me..)
what keycaps are those?
If you put a halo stem in the switch is it basically the same as a Yok Holy Panda?
you dont really need to tbh, these are fine as is
I have some boba u4ts but i don’t like the round and kinda rough bump (ig i just don’t like mx tactiles) but otherwise i love them. Could the tecsee blue velvet linears be a good alternative?
it sounds like to prefer linear switches in general instead of tactile switches (or maybe you like light tactile switches like browns/ergo clear (i don't recommend you get ergo clears)/dragonfruit). i havent tried the blue velvet linears, but there are a lot of great linear switches out there like alpacas or any JWK linear switch really
@@jimmynguyen973 yeah might be so. I completely forgot about pom durocks and those i’m pretty interested in
very goog video, thx
What about FEKER Panda? the lastest version is pure fire
Just to clarify, previously some people claimed the Coffee Chip Ice cream switch is just a recolor of purple panda...it's not true. I finally bought 2 packs of 110ct purple panda. Stock, the coffee chip ice cream feels smoother and no leaf ping. The purple panda has similar tactile feel so I am guessing lubing can help reduce the leaf ping and improve on smoothness. Anyway just want to share my finding in case anyone is wondering.
purple pandas are the bomb, Im really liking these switches. Nothing but thicc thoccs lol
Which one would you guys say is the better tactile switch? These tecsee purple pandas or akko ocean blues?
depends if you want a stronger or lighter tactile feeling. the akko ocean blues have a lighter bump, similar to ergo clears.
Hmm... I'm researching mechanical keyboards right now. I'll probably be getting a new keyboard within the next two weeks. It's insane how many customization options there are for mechanical keyboards. It's hard to tell what's important and what's not. So many reviews basically just focus on the sound the keyboard makes... very rarely do they even go over performance which astounds me. Many people wear headphones while on the computer anyway, so why would they care so much about sound?
For me... I'm interested in performance and price. The Tecsee Purple Pandas and Sapphires seem to be the two most realistic options. I have no idea what type of switch I'll actually like, because I've never tried them, but they're both relatively cheap and get ranked A or B from what I've seen. I assume I want tactile... my main focus is typing > gaming. However I don't want clicky, I'm not a fan of very loud keyboards. I haven't really seen any real reason why you would want a louder keyboard for typing either. It's almost like a majority of this industry is just mentality and sound preferences. All I'm interested is in getting a better workflow.
I'm also confused as to whether I should try to build my own, buy a keyboard, or customize. Soldering is not an option which means I'd need a hot swappable. For instance I could buy a Drop ALT 65% mechanical keyboard for $200 new. However all the switch options are pretty bad. All basically C to F tier. I can buy the barebones for $150 new. Now I can get it used for $98 or I can get the entire keyboard used for like $105/$115. Then I just get 67 purple pandas for like under $30. So for $130-145 I can literally buy it cheaper than building it my own. I could also buy the barebones... but I feel like I'd need to buy like padding and other things too. Not sure if it'd be cheaper overall (more research).
For some reason building your own seems far more expensive than just buying a decent mechanical keyboard, that's hot swappable, and simply changing the switches. Very odd. It's the reverse when building a computer. Maybe I'm wrong... I've only been researching for a few hours.
Noob here - what does “extended pull” mean?
cool video
I'm curious to know how good linear TECSEE switches are. How are they compared to Gateron Yellow.
I don't have those, but I'm willing to bet the Blue Velvet linears are recolors, which Shoobs have reviewed czcams.com/video/0SUpSK6CffA/video.html
@@jimmynguyen973 Jimmy, thanks for all your answers! They are very helpful to me.
My local mech stores has just opened a preorder for this switch, and dude at that price I'm sure it'll shake the tactile market.
But I'm still curious how it compares to boba u4t
the boba u4ts have a stronger bump
Wait .. a “local mech store”? Like an actual store front? Where is this I want to see it?

are they compatible to the k552 s beacause i wanna replaced my blue switch
The k552 has outemu hotswap sockets, so not compatible with these
On the last typing test, is that lubed or unlubed
lubed with 205g0
Hi Jimmy you know if this switches are compatible with rk61?
I am planning to build my first custom keyboard and I need to know if they are compatible with the keyboard and with the coral sea Japanese keycard
From a quick look, looks like the RK61 has hotswap sockets for mechanical switches, so yes these will work.
I try the T1 Tactile the feel so smooth I like it plus tactile
I have boba too but I prefer T1
so between T1 Tactile and Tecsee Purple which one is better feel
Durock T1 has a bit sharp tactility vs. rounded tactility on Boba, HP, GP, and Purple Panda. I got 2 T1 switches just to try them and I personally didn't like them over my GP.
if you prefer T1s over the the Bobas, I think you'll prefer T1s over purple pandas. As mentioned above, you can try out other sharp tactility switches like Zealios v2s...or even Box Royals which are suuuuper sharp.
thank you for suggest guys
ngl boba have the strongest tactile and the sound is dope
but I like T1 cause not that strong feel of tactile
thank you guys for your reply I will try the switches you guys just recommend to me :)
@@nomimizu7435 if its more about the "strong" feeling of the tactile instead of sharp vs round, then I take back my recommendation for zealios v2 / box royales. the tecsee purple pandas, or any holy panda switch really, won't have a strong of a tactile feeling as boba u4ts, so you may like them
@@nomimizu7435 if you want something even less tactile, you can look into pewters

was I the only one impressed that they come with a 2 stage spring and a storage case?
Can you try and see if these will work for Holy Bobas? I wanted a cheaper alternative than Halos, but everything I’ve tried won’t fit the Boba housing.
ye i just made some holy bobas. the bump w/ the tecsee stem actually felt...sharper? it did feel a bit stronger than the bump w/ the halo stem. i prefer the halo stem, but the tecsee stem does fit
@@jimmynguyen973 Dang okay, looks like I'll have to shell out for the Halos. Thanks for testing it out!
@@SomethingAzn i did some more testing today since i was building zykos as well. i tried out several purple panda stems, and they all felt..more sticky than the halo stem. one of the stem actually could not return for the upstroke at all because there was some extra material left on the stem. im guessing the purple panda stem is a bit larger than the halo stem, and can barely fit into the switch, so yeah halo stems are probably better than digging through purple panda stems. they work pretty well for zykos tho.
@@jimmynguyen973 Hmm, do you happen to know any cheaper alternatives to the Halo True stem? I tried the feker panda stems which were also too big.
@@SomethingAzn i dont unfortunately
Do you recommend filming these? Or ok without? Thx
No need to film these
what does length of stem represent exactly?
longer stem lengths results in faster bottoming out. generally switches have a 4mm of total travel distance. with a stem length of 13.9mm, i measured somewhere around 3.15mm of travel distance (can't remember exactly)
These or boba? I wish these comes with 62g :S
When you start with linear then suddenly try heavy tactile switches.
Damn my hand just need an extra effort to click on each key
Or should i said iam just a linear guy actually 😅
How do these compare to the boba 4bt
u4t's are my #1 tactile choice, i would put these as my #2. the downstroke bump on the u4ts feels better to me vs any holy-panda type switch
How would these compare against the AKKO CS (Ocean Blue) switches? Also there also seems to be a linear version, Tecsee Carrot, I wonder how that fares 🤔
i jus got the ocean blue switches and here are my early thoughts: i prefer the purple pandas because they are more tactile, have less leaf ping, and are 5 pin. im also waiting on the tecsee carrots to come in, planning on doing a video on the purple pandas, tecsee carrot, ocean blue, matcha green, gatern yellow...and some other budget tactile switch
@@jimmynguyen973 would love to see the comparison of those switch :D

Hey dude, you have good taste in switches and microphones, but you should know that mic is upside down.
I'm not sure what you mean, the mic is definitely not upside down, but also the orientation shouldn't matter as long as you're speaking into the capsule
@@jimmynguyen973 Incorrect. The mic is DEFINITELY upside down and orientation DOES matter. When the body of a microphone is at the bottom that allows heat to rise and, thus, change the tonality of the condenser mic. You may not think it's a massive difference, but it is existent, like it or not. Moreover, with the body of the microphone flipped and angled upward, your voice will have a touch more range as your neck will be angled slightly upwards (which also has an effect on plosives).
Even room temperature and humidity can affect the sound of a microphone, which is why engineers sometimes "hotbox" microphones, even if that particular type doesn't need to warm up. Recording engineers like hanging microphones as I've described for good reason.
t. person who has been in the audio world for decades and is working on releasing their own gear this year.
@@logicphile6207 It sounds like what you mean is the microphone isn't upside down, but it should be because of the heat issue that you mentioned. Another way to put it: the correct orientation is for the mic to be upside down.
But from what I understand, this is an issue with older tube mics and isn't an issue with modern mics. I'll look into it more later, but I'm honestly not too worried about it for CZcams purposes
@@jimmynguyen973 If you want to phrase it like that, sure, so long as you understand my point: the orientation inverse of what you have would be beneficial.
What you understand is correct & incorrect: modern microphones generate less heat, yes, but they still generate heat. Also see the throat angle changing the range of your voice.
Like I said, recording artists change the orientation still for a reason, but if I had to pay even $20 to change my mic orientation, I wouldn't because the cost/benefit isn't worth it. For free, though, that's an easy "Yes" from me.
Have a nice day!

I don't know about most, but there are a fair amount of hotswap boards that are 5-pin. You can also convert a 5 pin switch to a 3-pin, but not the other way around, and having those extra pins is definitely nice on a hotswap board.
that's a bad idea, making it 5 pin means that it can either be used in 5 pin, or trimmed and used in 3 pin. If you straight up release the switches as 3 pin, then you can't use them in plateless builds.
