  • 76 years on from the Nakba, Palestinians continue to demand their right of return after they were expelled from their homes during the creation of the Israeli state in 1948. Al Jazeera’s Nada Qaddourah breaks down the situation and looks at the parallels with Israel’s current war on Gaza.

      I don't suppose you support people's rights to return to Constantinople? How about the return of land to the Jews exiled from Muslim countries? Or perhaps right of return for all the christians and others displaced by 1400 years of Islamic conquest? Oh, I know, maybe you feel like deporting yourself and every single American in favor of native Americans that you 'stole' the land from?
      The 'nakba' is just a piece of propaganda. In reality it was a literal civil war, one that Palestinians started over disagreement on being finally given the land which didn't belong to them (first it belonged to the ottoman, and the the Brits, with only 12~% of Israel being actually owned by the 'palestinians' (then known just as arabs and not caring for their supposed identity in the slightest), and 8~% by the jews).
      And that's all on top of the land being literally unoccupied, back then there where hardly 700k people displaced over a war they themselves started over the land that currently holds ten times as much people with no problem. They could have coexisted peacefully and have the land, they refused and went to war (which they lost), it's that simple. The 'Palestinians' that DIDN'T go to war live peacefully inside Israel as citizens (20% of the population). And even Gaza and wb that where eventually returned to those people wheren't initially closed off, instead having fully open borders and next to no control, all up to the first intifada. So I'll repeat, they could have had peace and a good chunk of the lands they lost, maybe all of them with time. Or maybe could have integrated into Israel fully in which case it the land would be 'theirs' to the same exact extent that any citizens own the land of 'their' country (which they don't, try not paying your property tax and find out how quickly you'll be evicted from 'your' land and house)

    A misrepresentation of the facts to be kind. At that time, all over the world, civil wars were occurring. In Europe, millions of people were displaced. Millions. Yet there is not a single "refugee" camp now in all of Europe. They were all resettled. People moved on. Three options exist (everywhere except in Palestinian minds and Arab countries who use this as a tool to destroy Israel): 1) refugees stay in the country they fled to, 2) they move to a third country that will take them in and 3) they move back to where they were displaced, IFf that country accepts them. There is no "right" of return anywhere!

    Arab countries had an opportunity before and during 1948 to form a Palestinian State (many times since). They refused. They attacked the new State of Israel. Well off Palestinians left before the war, those in villages that agreed not to fight Israel stayed. those in combatant villages were either told to ;leave by Arab invaders, fought and died, or were forced out by Israel - this happens in WAR!! The term Nakba was not used initially because it actually referenced the FAILURE of Arab countries to eliminate Israel - that was the catastrophe! It was not until 1964 that Arafat and the PLO decide to flip the term to mean the catastrophe of loss of living places - basically to FLIP the narrative from the accurate SELF-INFLICTED catastrophe, to being victims of Israel.

    • @pinealservo
      @pinealservo Před 18 dny

      You are parroting bad history. Even Benny Morris admits that the Palestinians were forced from their cities and villages either directly or by fear as news of events like the Deir Yassin massacre reached them. This evacuation was mostly before the neighboring states attacked, not after. And the attacks were hardly the David vs. Goliath story that they were previously portrayed as.
      And the point of the video is that while it is normal for non-combatants to evacuate regions in conflict, it is also expected that they be able to return to their homes afterwards. That is the "right of return."
      Israel denies this right because it insists on maintaining at least a 70:30 Jewish ethnic majority within its borders so it can be both a democracy and a state officially of the Jewish people.
      You claim that the Palestinians were offered a "state" which they refused multiple times. If you looked at the details of the negotiations over these offers, maybe you would have a better understanding of why they broke down. Calling the failures a one-sided refusal is a bad-faith description.

    • @ciccn512
      @ciccn512 Před 18 dny

      @@pinealservo Not parotiing bad history. There was a civil war going on for years. Arabs killing Jews and destroying their villages no difference than Deir Yassin. The difference was the Palestinian Jews hod no were to go! So no option to flee.
      There is no such thing as a legal right of return. That is a mde up concept strickly for the Palestinians.
      There is no quota in Israel that restricts the birth rate of Arab Israelis. It does not "control" the ratio of jews to arab citizens. It is a Jewish state and will remain so. Otherwise it is a demographic existential threat to the lives of Jews.
      Hmm, perhaps you need ot look at the UN Partition plan of 1948. Then opverlay the malaria map of the Israeli portion - very similar. Arab Palestinians had much more viable land than the Jews. And Jerusalem was an "international" capital. They refused. Mutliple times after they refused, Even when they accpeted Camp David accords are they got most (of course not all) Arafat turned around back home and started the second intifada. Becuase of course there is NO way he could go home and ask the Palestinians who had been told their whole lives that all the land is theirs, that they had to accept anything less. They do not want to accept a State with Israel. No deal is perfect. But the threat to Israel's security is something that can never be acepted until the Palestinians change their narrative.

    Israel was created for more than 3000 years. It doesn't give such a thing as " historical Palestine ". Palestine was a name given first by the Roman Imperator Hadrian. Before that, there was any Palestine! It was only the Kingdom of Israel and Judah.

      You're lying and believing your own lies! If we use your logic, America should return the land to the original nations lived in the land for hundreds of years. What about you, where did you come from, where is your original land? You can't wipe out the entire nation and steel their lands, culture, dishes, etc. and claim they are yours!

      Ah, the good ol' "3000 years" argument. Because, you know, if something happened 3000 years ago, it totally justifies everything that's happened since, right?
      And yeah, let's just conveniently ignore all the people who've been living there for, oh, I don't know, the past few centuries. Who cares about them, right? They're just a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.
      Oh, and let's not forget about that classic move of blaming the Romans for everything. Because, obviously, if the Romans did it, it must be totally legit, right? Never mind the fact that it's been recognised as Palestine for centuries by, you know, actual people who live there.
      But hey, who needs facts when you can just cherry-pick history to fit your narrative?
