Two blondes walk into a bar (there is an old running joke that blondes aren’t particularly clever) you’d think one of them would’ve seen it (you would think that either of the blondes would have seen the bar before either of them could walk into it, you know a bar as in a horizontal metal post/pole).
People from the four constituent countries of the U.K. are both from that nation as well as British or U.K. citizens, in fact many would regard themselves as Scottish, English, Northern Irish or Welsh before calling themselves British. Personally I always say I’m Scottish if asked my nationality, even though I have lived in England longer than I did Scotland but Scotland is where I was born, lived the first 20 years of my life and will always be where I think of as my true home. A lot of people would feel that just saying British essentially strips away the unique heritage of each country’s identity.

The last one asking about nationality was probably referring to what part of the UK you're from. Britain's made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
actually it's only made up of Scotland, England and Wales for BRITAIN. UK includes Northern Ireland but Britain is only 3 countries since Britain is simply the name of the island. That's why the full title for the uk is: "the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland". Northern Ireland isn't in Britain cuz it's in the island of ireland which includes northern ireland + the republic of ireland (republic obvs not in uk)
so basically
UK: scotland, england, wales, NI (4 countries)
BRITAIN: scotland, england, wales (3 countries)
