This is one of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone. It is one that made such an impact on me when I saw it when it originally aired, that I could still remember every scene these many years later. Nice review.
Hi Leslie. This is a truly excellent episode. The two leads were very strong. Always glad to hear when I touch on someones favorite. Thanks & be well!
This show in all it's episodes affected my entire worldview when I first saw it in reruns in the 80s. I guess I was early teens at the time. It cracked open my nascent imagination like nothing else -- not even the flashy movies of the day (Star Wars et al) -- though I loved those movies as well.
Even amid all the color TV content I watched, TZ stood out as high above all others in their day. Even today, this show is still the best TV has ever been IMO -- though we occasionally get pretty good TV from time to time.
I keep buying TZ on physical media because I want to possess it in an unadulterated form which can't be changed by the political tactics of any particular era.
Thanks for the opportunity to admire the GORGEOUS Lois Nettleton ❤️❤️❤️
This has always been one of my best loved episode. I liked the fact that Norma had a Fever induced dream, and it made sense that she would dream of heat since fevers are hot. To wake up and discover that the planet is actually freezing made it chilling in a different way.
TZ at it's very best the Midnight Sun has always been one of my all time favorite episodes , disturbing dread that lingers long after viewing., Great little analyses, very well done.
Hey Juan, I agree this one was great on so many levels. It had such a disturbing, dark undertone throughout. Much thanks for watching, commenting & supporting.
One of the most gripping episodes ever made in the Twilight Zone.
Twilight Zone was quite effective when it delved into 'End of the world' scenarios and all of the anxiety, fear and despair that comes with that theme. But this one really stands out and is relatable. Thanks for watching man, I appreciate it.
I definitely agree. What’s up Patrick!
Another darn fine episode and another fine choice for a review. I lost AC for a full week a couple of summers ago. It was rough so I really do relate to this one now.
I am actually one that generally dislikes the "It was a dream" cop out. But you are right, it works here cause of the very similar, though vastly different, circumstances that were actually taking place. One of the best examples of "It was a dream" I've seen.
Yeah man I hear you. We had a short blackout last summer, it was unbearable. I definitely wanted to throw some paintings around. Anyway, thanks so much for the watch & comment.
Good review! Everytime I watch this episode I can feel the oppressive heat, the desolation it portrays! I don't know which one is worst, the heat or the cold, one thing is for sure, extremes are all bad.
I just watched this recently, and right now, we've been going through EXTREME heat, and I've been muttering this episode to myself!!!!!!!
Same here. The heatwave just broke yesterday thankfully. Thanks for watching. Be well & stay cool.
Wow! This sounds like a really great episode, the twist actually is really ingenious too! I live in the valley in California, where it gets to be over 117 degrees during the summer... and sometimes I feel like these two ladies; barely surviving the heat and going mad! Haha 🤣 Great video Ant!!!! Always love seeing that you posted!
Jeez, at 117 I'd be delirious or unconscious. The hottest it gets in NY during summer is in the lower 100's and that is a bit rare, but still nightmarish.
My all time favorite Twilight Zone episode, and one that even fans of the series don't always remember. Love the sense of impendng doom...great writing and acting. Your commentary is spot on! It's obvious that you have thought about what you want to say, and as a viewer/listener it's greatly appreciated.
Hey Russell! Thank you very much, I appreciate the kind words! All the best & stay tuned for a lot more from the 5th dimension!
Two years later and your review still packs a heavy punch .... Such a great and sad episode.
Hey Patrick! Agreed, excellent episode & a sad one as well. We've had such brutal heat lately. Hope you are remaining cool. Be well!
This is one of my favorite episodes and its an scary episode because this can actually happen in real life, and there isn't a thing we can do about it only to delay the inevitable
It's a little strange that the intruder is wearing a long sleeve jacket in the intense heat. In the short term I think humans could survive longer in the cold with heaps of blankets etc. The extreme heat is a different story! You need access to a lot of water and the power would cease so no air conditioning or fans
Hey Debbie. Good point about his attire. There's so much to appreciate about this one, as you noted, it really makes you consider how might I survive in either extreme? Unlike some of the more out there apocalyptic / sci-fi scenarios, we can all relate to being really hot or really cold.
How can any one of the "Twilight Zone episodes be a favorite. Rod Serling made us look at ourselves. He taught"Morals and Wisdom" with his writing. He was way before his time. Its the year 2023. And the Twilight Zone is still being resurrected. Hey i like that word "Resurrected".
A good episode. What I remember most about it was the shot of the paint running in her paintings. Man, that is HOT!
Those closing shots of the melting paintings worked so well. Even in black and white you still just get hot seeing that.
Man, I remember feeling depressed and scared watching this episode. Good job Anthony 😁
Another great review! I remember this being one of the first episodes I saw back when I was first getting into the series with those Sci-Fi Channel marathons on New Year's back in the day. The twist at the end is simple but clever, and the thesis of the episode holds regardless. It's a great example of showing how society and different individuals reacts to a crisis. Can't wait to see which episode's next!
Hey wassup Cinecrisis. Thanks for checking out the vid. I agree, this one was simple but clever and drives home the different ways people deal with extreme situations.
This is one of my all time favourites.
Although I never comprehended their clothing, such as the guy that broke in with the suit jacket on.........
You just know that if he was sweating and dying of the heat, he wouldn't be wearing that !!
People would be stripped down to the bare necessities. No matter how many times I watch this episode I always think the same.
Hey thanks for the watch Henry. I hear what you are saying regarding the fact that most would only be wearing the bare necessities in a scenario such as this. Be well and stay tuned for the next review.
Beauty Norma was only dreaming him.
This is one of the best twist endings of all the TZ episodes! Very intriguing concepts! I just subscribed!
Much thanks Howie! Happy to have you here! Stay tuned for more from the TZ.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater, my best favorite TZ episode is THE AFTER HOURS
Normally I'm not the biggest fan of when a whole story turns out to simply be a dream, but this put a really creative and fun twist on it since even outside of the dream things aren't all fine and dandy. I'm by no means a connoisseur on the show, so I can easily say there's a bunch of episodes I haven't seen and yet I'm familiar with quite a few, but this is one of the ones I was unaware and because of that I thank you good sir for once again giving a wonderful review of a very intriguing sounding episode. Keep em comin bud! Always love to see your vids!
Hey wassup Burja, thanks for watching & commenting. The dream angle had enough of a twist in relation to the two weather extremes that it worked for me too.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater also gota mention I really enjoy that you don't only talk through the moments of the episode, but also have really interesting trivial facts of the writing, background and making of these episodes. Nicely done 👏👍
@@BurjaRocar Thanks, I mix it up as best as possible to hopefully keep things interesting. The previous episode I used what I felt like were a lot of clips, so I'm figuring out the format a bit as I go.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater very cool man! Always fun to switch things up and find what works best in the midst of finding your ideal format. You seem to already have it down really well!
Clicked on this by accident but was really pleasantly surprised at your well explained depiction of the episode and fate of its characters.
I’d actually looked up this episode, which I’d viewed a few years ago, bc of the climate change stats recently reported. This has been the hottest year in recorded history, hence it reminded me of this episode and is giving me the freakin creeps. I’ve an adult child and fear for the fate of earth.
I’m sad. Sad he’s to contend with the thought of having a family bc of the uncertain future regarding our climate. Kills me to know he’s to even consider our climate.
Someone, anyone, help the damn GOP and their constituents get their heads out of their a***s and on board in doing what we can to help our planet.
👍 I totally hear you Christine. Thanks for watching, commenting & for the kind words. Take care and have a good day ahead!
My yearly ritual is to watch this episode on the hottest night of the year usually last week of July.
That opening scene is me, to myself when I’m stuck in a creative rut. This whole episode is basically just getting used to NY summers after finally acclimating to the NY winter
Tell me about it. I'm in NY too, not looking forward to the months ahead.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater BUT we get REALLY nice weather for the first Tuesday and Friday of May between 9am and noon so I’m excited for that
@@stillmorereviews9114 😁Damn, I was out of town and missed it.
This is my all time favourite episode ❤ Great review ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hey mcbear! Much Thanks! Always a pleasure to meet another fellow TZ fan, glad you are enjoying the vids.
One of my favorite underrated episodes. I always used to imagine if it had been Lucy and Ethel as the two characters.
Aw jeez, not poor Lucy in that sweltering heat. 😂 On a fun / related note, Desi Arnaz was technically the first host of The Twilight Zone. The 1st actual Serling Twilight Zone story was called 'The Time Element' & it aired as an episode of Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse in 1958. That pilot was very successful, CBS order more episodes produced and so we got the launch of the classic Twilight Zone series.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater I did know about the Desilu playhouse thing, but I can’t get over the image of Desi Arnez laughing his ass off saying the intro and outros
@@FeverDreamlandTheater
I totally did not know that !!
Is that show available to watch that you know of ?
Would love to watch it.
I personally would prefer to slowly freeze at least in that way it’s almost like going to sleep.
Another one I haven't watched yet, but one I will definitely looks out for, I started watching season 1 thanks to your reviews, I'm around halfway through the season now. Great video 👍
Nice! That is awesome to hear. Season 1 had some strong episodes.
I was 12 years old when I saw this when it first aired. Lois Nettleton plunged me into puberty post haste!
Ha ha, I hear you man! Thank you for the watch Dennis! A new episode review will be coming up soon. Have a good one!
I want to say something clever and interesting about this episode but I'll just say it's one of my favorites.
Honestly, I see the twist as a mercy. I'd rather freeze to death than get cooked alive
I think I agree Sauce. Thanks for watching...a new Twilight Zone review is coming soon. Take care.
Great episode and story
great episode.. the actress who played Mrs. Bronson played Thelma the maid in a Honeymooners episode.
Thelma the maid! "I don't do no cleaning up the next morning. And this boy looks like he has plenty of late snacks." 🤣🤣🤣
Now that is cool trivia, I grew up watching Honeymooners reruns late at night, so I know that episode well but for some reason it did not click she was the same actress. Thanks 245webster. Be well!
Yes. The great BETTY GARDE. Also was the queen bee in "Caged. Great at playing tough tall characters.
This was at a time when real scientists were arguing about which way we were going to die. They still are.
Top five for me. The twist totally got me.
As I recall, I think that twist got me too!
Even in cold weather, the late Lois Nettleton was hot.
Fantastic review!! This sounds like a real heavy episode touching on some very dramatic events and moments. Certainly stars a great cast! :)
Fantastic review man! Unfornutely i watched your whole video so i spoiled the episode for myself, but i will try to watch this episode in the future and try to not remember anything about it LOL! I love the idea of a heatwave lasting so long and you cant do anything to stop it or control it. It really does seem like a nightmare. I need to start watching more of the classic show for sure! Awesome well detailed and perfectly well written review man! Your editing is so good man!
Hey thanks for the watch man. I appreciate it. On that note, I have a top 10 TZ in progress that will be spoiler free....be well, stay safe!
Great review man, actually haven't seen this episode yet
For years I watched Lois Nettleton on In the Heat of the Night and found her to be so familiar but I couldn't place her. Twilight Zone strikes again! One of the more memorable episodes.
Ah okay, cool. She was really great in this. I felt like I'd seen her before too but couldn't think of where. I glanced at IMDB while researching for this one, but nothing jumped out at me.
I remember her appearance on Full House as Becky's mother. It was the two part episode where Jesse and Becky get married.
This was a fantastic review!! I was proper engaged from start to finish!!
Loved the twist in this, and I’d take hot weather over cold lol I’d last ten seconds on the cold 🥶
Wassup Geekyhijinks, thanks for checking in man I appreciate it. I go back and forth on roasting or freezing to death. Whichever is the quickest. Not a pleasant choice. Think happy thoughts! Think happy thoughts!
This is one of my all-time favorite TZ episodes. Thank you so much for doing these reviews on these classic episodes!
Could you please do a review of The Twilight Zone episode: "Queen of The Nile"?🙏🙏🙏
Nice pick! I'll add it to the list for people to vote on. My goal is to cover all 156 of these, so no matter what I'll get to everything. Thanks riverguy.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Thanks! 😃
This is a great review. I have seen every TZ episode and this is one of the best. This is the first review of yours that I have read and I wonder why you gave this only 4 stars instead of 5. Off the top of my head, I loved the Hitchhiker, And When the Sky Opened, and the Ring-a-ding girl, and this one. Serling was beyond genius.
Hey wassup DrMoto, glad you found the channel! My scores all lean in the positive direction, especially when it comes to the TZ so a 4 out of 4 is great. That said, I do usually mention minor critiques to indicate why something ranks a certain way, but other times it's just a gut feeling. Again, it's all good vibes around here. Speaking of Hitch-Hiker, I was able to cover that one recently too...that's another solid episode. Thanks for the watch & the comment, be well & have a good weekend ahead. 👍
Oh my gosh I remember this one. Totally fitting in our present climate change situation.. it’s interesting thinking about how one will react, and you’re absolutely right.. you don’t know until your in it. Thanks for sharing it ✌️
Hey how are you? Thanks for the comment & the watch. I thought this one did a solid job looking at the ticking clock / doomsday issue. The story examined the different ways people react in extreme scenarios like this. (freaking out, staying put, fleeing...etc...)
@@FeverDreamlandTheater I’m well thanks, busy and a bit behind schedule, but I have a bunch of cooking videos for this week. Hope you are doing good too.
Yes the episode does that for sure. People do react in interesting ways. I see a lot of this with my activism. When things get to this point it’s tough to show people the bigger picture and how things can be fixed. Anyhow, it’s a great conversation piece that’s for sure!
This episode of TTZ was actually on City-TV tonight, loved it (Jan 27/2024)
Very cool, yeah this is another one of the great ones.
i like all the Time Travel episodes mostly, but i love this episode too
I'm from 🇨🇦my brother, so I'll take a heat wave whenever I can get it!! Heat waves always make me think of Do The Right Thing (one of my fav films). Unfortunately I don't remember this episode, but yes it certainly resonates with the pandemic period. We're in heavy lockdown here still. Take care.
Canada! Only been there once, nicest people around though. Thanks for watching man.
Is this episode my favorite NO. I have watched all the "Twilight Zone episodes. And the majority of the episodes are my favorites. Including this one, "The Midnight Sun". I remember Robert Redford fresh out of drama school. And he landed a spot on the "Twilight Zone. He played Mr. Death". Another favorite of mind
I don't remember seeing this episode. Going to track it down. Thank you for bringing it up
No doubt watch it first, you don't want this one spoiled.
I live in Florida and it can get VERY hot in the summer and even in the winter. I do have to say if I had a choice I'd rather freeze to death than die of the heat.
I hear you, I used to live in Florida for a bit years ago. I'm in NY again now, so we get frigid winters and grueling summers. ha ha, you can't win/ Thank you for watching Karen, have a good one! : )
How in the world did they get Lois Nettleton’s outfit past 1960’s censors?
😅 ha ha very true. I'm not sure, it feels sometimes like they were able to slip by and avoid the censors.
Call me a big softie but this one actually gets under my skin a bit too much to really enjoy it much. I guess just the helplessness of it.
I’d rather freeze than burn.
No doubt! Jaws is an all time classic. I'm always happy to find a connection to Jaws in some way and try to squeeze it in as a trivia mention.
Sounds like a classic episode, awesome analysis 👍.
My apologies! I've really been trying to catch up with your videos.
I was struggling to find the original series and watch, so I could comment and join in the conversation. That went awry initially, but I finally found it.
As someone who grew up in Chicago, the thought of extreme heat is nightmarish. Neither extreme is desirable, but I could probably handle the cold somewhat easier.
I really enjoyed your breakdown of this, and it's going to be fun to watch the actual episodes themselves, along with your future videos. 👌👌👌
Hey D. Movieman, do not sweat it. I appreciate and any and all comments whenever you guys get around to it. I'm so behind myself too on everyone's vids and even making my own. I'm shooting for something new this week. We'll see.
The show was easier for many when it was on Netflix. Now I am back to my old DVDs again mostly. But I think it is on Hulu and Amazon. Anyway, great hearing from you, stay cool, avoid that nightmarish weather and thanks for checking in. 👌
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Understandable! I had to give myself a small break after my last video to just relax and breathe for a minute.
Definitely will be tuning in whenever your new video drops. 🙏🙏🙏
I’m not sure which version would be worse. In the cold, you could do green houses and stuff to grow crops. In the hot version, there really is no escape.
It's one of those things where either way is rough. But that's what great about Twilight Zone, it gets us thinking about all kinds of things. Thanks for watching. Be well.
Welcome to review our film
As much as I like heat I think I rather have extreme cold better chance of survival than extreme heat.
Hey Katelyn, I go back and forth on this one. Extreme Heat vs extreme cold. (what a choice) Thanks for watching!
Just watched this last nght. Classic. It gave me huge "The Last of Us" vibes! Thanks for keeping this great show alive.
It is my pleasure Vince. Thank you for watching.
I was mindblown. In the light of climate change--this is THE episode for that.
Good review
Another awesome entry into your Twilight Zone reviews, Anthony! Do you know where I could find twilight zone? I remember it used to be on Netflix for a while. Anyway, the twist in this episode does seem to be a bit cliché but we got a remember that maybe for its time it was extremely original. I quite enjoyed what this episode led up to 🤷🏽♂️
Wassup J...Thanks for watching man. They are on Netflix last I checked but just seasons 1,2,3, & 5. Paramount +, Hulu, and Amazon Prime as well.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater sheesh! Netflix is really trying to burying them then because I constant on Netflix and never see it advertised.
Awesome presentation 👌
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Grateful I'm not the only fan of the twighlight zone. My name's Edmon.... what's yours? 🌌
Hey Edmon, I'm Anthony! Thanks as always for watching. 👍
This episode, well most of it, would be outright torture. The poor women, having to wear dresses like that. That would be hell.
Can you review "Will the real martian please stand up" S02E28.
I have a few reviews in progress now and that is actually one of them. : )
I had heard a lot about this episode, I'd definitely like to watch the show in full at some point despite the cheese factor of course although maybe its foreshadowing 😅
Hey guys, thanks for the watch. Yeah I'm obviously a TZ superfan so I recommend checking out the show when you can. Best wishes.
When I watched this episode for the first time I was shocked at how big the sun was! But I knew the plot beforehand because my dad was telling me about it. The scariest part for me was when the looter broke into Norma's apartment! I was thinking was he going to rape them? Kill them or both? After seeing the twist ending it got me to wonder which is worse. Dying by burning up from the extreme heat or freezing to death from the extreme cold?
Dying by extreme heat or extreme cold...they are both awful ways to go.
These two extremes are no others than the ones from of a global nuclear war.
No offense meant whatsoever, but I hate this episode. To me it's like watching the kind of nauseating nightmare one has when they're running a high fever. Its appeal absolutely eludes me (but my wife likes it). Thick clothes (why?!) in oppressive heat with huge sweat stains. Yuck! Didn't like poor Mrs. Bronson's acting either. This and "It's a Good Life" would be on my overrated list. Nevertheless, your reviews are top-notch.
Hey Hop, the fun of these is discussing our favorites, but we all are bound to have ones we do not care for. Totally cool. Thank you for watching & commenting. Be well!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Thanks for understanding the spirit in which I made my comment, Dreamland. Not trying to pick a fight one bit, and I agree about the benefit of discussion and considering a different POV. Every good wish!
BTW, "Time Enough At Last" is another one I think hugely overrated (don't know if you've reviewed it). A leaden pace, and guess what? He'll be able to find another pair of glasses somewhere! LOL But again, people just love it. No prob. :)
