Fan wars are really common in South Indian Film industry, even more so than in Bollywood. Fan clubs and their conflicts have literally got people killed and caused riot like violence. Stuff gets pretty intense!

Us Indians are very passionate about the game but come on, be respectful to everyone. We shouldn't hurt the performances of people. Virat was also not handled well by BCCI when ODI captaincy was handed over to Rohit and I didn't boo Rohit for that. He was a really good successor to MSD and Virat and we accepted that. I'm sure Rohit didn't face what Pandya is right now.

This booing protest can and should turn into a wider protest of over commercialization of sport. The money today is 3-4 times what it was 8 years ago. All of these players will play this less than half the money they are given, if they don't, there are many younguns and foreigners who would do a better job and give the spectators a better cricket tournament than these cabal of PR agents masquerading as part time cricketers.
Actually IPL players are making significantly less money than they should. In all professional leagues of other sports players make around 50% of all profits. For IPL it’s about 10%. Players, and I mean all players, should get much more money.

The BCCI has extreme control on the league and they through politics maintain the rules in such a way that the increase in valuation of the league accrues to them and the team owners and lesser to the players. English Premier League has 100s of football clubs and any group of people can unite and form one. In india it is extremely hard to own a club and a group of people aren't allowed to share ownership. The issue in my OP was of over commericialization and not necessarily money, the ads, the marketing, the hype, the broadcast duties etc. In pursuit of attention and eyeballs, the game and authenticity of the game is being compromised. Similar to WWE vs UFC

BCCI and politicians nexus are using IPL as there personal cash cow and have been doing it for sometime giving the players short hand of the stick. Add to it BCCI strictly opposes formation of players union which might fight for players’ rights.
