    How to use the dome light to wire in approach, courtesy, rocks lights to automatically come on and come on with the use of a switch with having the dome light or cargo lights on.

    It’s my opinion all the lights listed below can come from the same light source but how they’re activated is what classifies differently.
    Approach lights:
    activate when Fob enters the trucks driver or passenger door radius. If your dome light does not turn on when you approach driver or passenger doors the dealer can turn on this feature during your next visit.
    Courtesy lights:
    activate when trigger by unlocking via remote or opening a door.
    Rock lights/under vehicle lights:
    activate by switch when desired.

    I just want to say this video inspired me to do my rock light setup on my Tacoma. But I took it a couple of steps further. I separated the door and wheel rock lights to be on there own circuit. I also installed additional switches inline of the switched ground heading to the relays. I did this to turn off either the wheel or door or both when unlocking the truck or approaching it. So I can have the door and wheel lights come on, or just have the wheel lights come on and the door lights are dark, or just have the door lights come on and the wheel lights be dark. Also installed switches with the constant power so if I wanted to I can have all the lights on with the truck off and locked. Also did the same for LED strip inside my grill. Thanks for the video...

    Question- do the courtesy lights come on if everything is off and you turn on your dash light manually? I often find myself at night needing to Dig through my glove box and turning the light above the headunit on to see. Will turning this on send power to those footwell lights? Or is this wiring the light in the back seat area of the roof (in which case I don’t care)… I did this in my Jeep awhile back and had to put a diode in cricut to prevent this but not sure if it would work here. Thank you so much for this video though- very helpful

    I think I finally understand what you did. So your diagram picture and your explanation I understood differently. You connected your hot wire from your switch to the 12v + blue, The negative wire on the switch to 86 on the relay. Then connected 87 and 85 to a ground. 30 on the relay to the negative on the rock lights/footwell lights. Then Where did you connect your rocker lights/footwell lights positive wire? I connected my switch to a 6 panel fuse box and my rocker light positive wire to the 12v blue wire. The lights come on with the switch but not the door.

    I purchased a lighting kit and it only has a red and black wire. It also has a switch already on the lights so I do not need to install one. My idea is the same and want to have them turn on off when the truck unlocks or locks up again, with the dimming feature of the dome lights. Do I tap into the blue and yellow at the A pillar on the driver side? Or do I tap into the dome left and right wires at the switch panel on the driver side for this function to work with mine? I simply plan on leaving the switch turned on at all times so they function as courtesy lights.

    • @Tcodyw88
      @Tcodyw88  Před 2 lety

      You need to follow the wire diagram exactly it will work and it’s the only way to properly activate the lights via doors locking/unlocking, on approach, and with the a switch. If you do as mentioned above and leave the switch on to use courtesy light you won’t be able to manually turn on the lights on if you wanted rock lights on while off-roading.

    I can't wrap my head around wiring it in this fashion.. i'm not really as used to automotive as house wiring. Is there a reason you can't just make the dome light power trigger the relay to power the lamps with a 4 pin relay thats battery to switch to relay and fused hot to relay for the power that goes out to the lamps from pin 30 ? Meaning the dome light hot as a second trigger for the relay ? I already have the setup wired and working great , it would just mean adding the second wire from dome light to the trigger pin. Does this make sense to you ? I know multiple ways to use relays and this is the way i had chosen.

    • @Tcodyw88
      @Tcodyw88  Před rokem +1

      The dome light has constant power (3rd gen) and is and regulated by the grounding wire which does the dimming. This is why I use the ground wire and not the power wire. But there’s a ton of ways to wire something. This way keeps the dimming, approach, switch features.

Everything worked as supposed to but when I use da switch in da cab to turn on da rock lights it also turns on da dome lights. • @Tcodyw88
      @Tcodyw88  Před 2 měsíci

      If you’re talking about the ch4x4 switch’s the green wire goes directly to 12v constant power and the red wire goes to 86 and when you push the switch it send power to open the relay. 87a and 30 are connected when 85 and 86 don’t have both a power and ground on each, once 85 and 86 have power and a ground then 87 and 30 become connected. The ground wire from the dome light should only be used to trigger the relay to open (86). The dome light should not be directly wired into the rock lights, that is the purpose of the relay to keep everything working together but not directly wired together.
