This is insane. There is enough information in this to study for the rest of your musical career.
Tenor for sale
Charles-Antoine 😂
😂👌🏼
never worn
😂😂😂😂😂😂 100%
He plays ten keys. He plays fast, at times. He uses almost all conceivable tecnique that can be done with a tenor. It is a masterclass, a kind of exercise, of demonstration... and yet
There is never a showdown, no bragging, no circus. He plays LYRICAL, SOULFUL, HUMBLE and HONEST. OH YES this is MUSIC
How high were you honestly
Eddie Pringle lmfao what
@@MyArmHurtsBad he be like those old folks on videos sayin (in all caps)
THIS IS REAL MUSIC
@@MyArmHurtsBad WTF ? What's wrong with PabloVestory's comment ? What he says is damn true and well said. How high were you
when writing your comment, honestly ?
Idk why everyone thinks this is so hard. All you have to do is practice like 12 hours a day your whole life
That is the 8th wonder of the world.
This is the definition of virtuosity
The smoothness and connectivity is insane. You don’t feel that he’s shifting keys. It all just flows and sounds like an evenly great and wonderful solo
The evidence that he carries the Jazz tradition, the incredible chops, and the creative imagination of Chris Potter all in one long-ass solo.
it's almost as if you wrote out this ridiculous solo and chris potter played it perfectly
😂 🎖
my cat came and stared at the screen with me
I hear a lot of Coltrane and Rollins in his playing. Great execution!
1:13 is a classic sonny rollins line
I was a freshman in High School and sat right in front of him for this exact masterclass
I’m very proud I taught band at Chris Potters high school
:) thank you for bringing him up
@ 10:30 - "Long blur of notes with nebulous time..." lol
Translation: "...Chris Potter is above this MF's transcription skills"
Crazy, because these are all some insane transcribers. Chris Potter truly is in a realm of his own!!
to me it starts on 10:51
Right Luciano....that "blur of notes" is all the more impressive 'cause it is absolutely precise...I disagree that it's nebulous time, I can hear it but can't count it! There's another similar but shorter passage at around 12:00- maybe someone can check if the amazing transcriber got it all !!!
" if you look closely, you can see the exact moment when the transcriber just gave up entirely."
Yeah but there's also not really a point to transcribing it
This is just.....😳 what a technician and such language skills.
I was sitting directly in front of Chris during this display epic shreddery
Wow. Was he playing with a click? Time doesn't change
😮
@@joebandana1 it does
Absolutely one of the best solos I have ever heard. So creative!!
I've never seen anyone develop an improvisation in Cherokee as well as Chis Potter!

This is pure madness. Incredible.
Unreal. Brilliant playing
Thank you for taking the time to do this
What an absolute GOAT bro
Someone mentioned "Harmolody". So interesting to listen to this without mental reference to the chord-form, as though it were Ornette on acid or something. This is a master at work.
The absolute greatest living!
.Thanks .. for always good material.

thank you guys, awesome job, just started to work on it, it's so much fun!!
Last eight note in measure 76 should be an E, Really digging this transcription though! Thanks for sharing!

😄The John Williams quote from "E.T." at 7:23!
I would give anything to hear this played with a rhythm section
Ah i see you switched genre
Idk man I think the beauty of this is how Chris plays around the lack of a rhythm section
It would be totally different if there was a rhythm section cause for someone who has a lot of rhythmic ideas in his mind just like Chris can be freer when playing a cappella
@@Cheezburgers959 Well yeah... Im saying i want to hear 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 version with a rhythm section, not cherokee with a rhythm section
@@franzliszt7682 oh i get it.that would be amazing.
What's he got against the keys of A and A#?
This is a giant-step of a performance.
Thanks for keeping me grounded, mate

Great command of the horn and harmony! So why don't I like it?
Jazzgent that's for you to answer gent
Some people find it a bit too cold and clinical. A bit like Eric Harland on drums - amazing but almost too perfect
TehWinnerz both Eric and Chris play with plenty of Heart. But it’s inside the music not emotion they wear on their sleeve. I know your just trying to explain why some people might find it that way. Nothing personal here. Also, one might have to be at least in the farm teams ballpark to get these players😄
Because you are kind of deaf, from a musical point of view. Too bad. Also who cares about your opinion about this...
Aight I’m boutta head out
Thank you, great job! Do you have concert key pdf version?

great job!
is it possible to have the transcription in concert key?
right? i play guitar/bass and the keys are all confusing! whats the transposition? is this all one step bellow?
this part is transposed for Tenor Sax which is a transposing instrument in Bb, so the notes you read here are 2 steps above the real notes you hear: the 1st note written is E, but actually it's a D...the same for the chords: 1st chord written is C6 but actually it is Bb6
@@salvodipiazza88 One step. Two half-steps.
Anyone got a concert pitch score?
How?

Unbelievable...
Hey! I sent you a message through your page. Any way I can get this on concert pitch?

Is this in concert pitch?
It’s transposed for a Bb instrument

Why is there a random bar of 3/4?
Andrew Lake Podcast he drops a beat a couple times during this
Because when you play alone you can do whatever you want especially if you're as good as Chris Potter
Where and when? What is the context?
SoaringTrumpet it’s a masterclass where he plays Cherokee in 12 keys to demonstrate why you should practice everything in the 12 keys... can you read the description?
wtf
Will at least one of the 18 who gave this a thumbs down tell us why?
its got no melody and is just a chord exercise
This is lyrical and expressive. That kind of comment often comes from people with no chops. Not personal I haven’t heard you
@@tellitlikeitis-rg4ny "its got no melody and is just a chord exercise" ? Hej dude, you must by a pair of ears ! And a brain. Both are fucked up. You are pathetic. 💩
Who has given thumb down?!
🤔
I am quite sure, if we would find that out, the universe would explode...
Articulación . How. .?
This reminds me a lot of Coltrane. Especially at 1:37
JazzFan222 that's more a bird riff actually
its coltrane
why didn't he play it in A and Bb?

Bar 716 says "Long Blur of Notes with Nebulous Time" .... LMAO
Chris Potter is on steroids ... jazz steroids. They have to exist, I'm sure of it !!!!!!
There's a difference between real music and showing off technique.
O_O
He's not quite there yet.not at performance level.
You can play Cherokee in 12 keys better right?
@@christopherfischer6998 I think there might have been a touch of irony there :-)
@@christopherfischer6998 He's joking lol
Boody hell.

Hyerogliphic language interpretation. I found my way. Easier than this.
You mean you found figuring out the solo by easier? Probably true. I've always found reading music harder than figuring it out by ear.
what the fuck
Very proficient but doesn’t sound that pleasant tbh. I’ve always preferred Brecker’s tone and harmonic conception over Chris Potter
glad you like breaker like most of us here but you cannot deny that this is brain melting
"doesn’t sound that pleasant tbh" 🤣🤣🤣 ! Dude, please talk for yourself ! If it "does not sound that pleasant" to your ear, it's a pity for you, and nobody gives a shit about it. Go listen to what please you then !
Astonishing --but is it music ???
yes
mmm? Perhaps some is only meant to be heard just the once.
I mean... I've listened to this masterclass performance probably at least 20 times so haha
jon viol wait is that a serious question..? If so... Yes, it's music...
This is the perfect type of music - incredible blend of soulful beautiful melodic playing and insane technicality and musicianship!!
