  • We ventured back out again for another event and Donut was an absolute legend (again)! It was a brilliantly educational run and I am so chuffed that we have been able to consolidate at novice level.

I really love how you approach things, how you deal with your own nerves and how you really allow yourself and Donut do have these competitions as practice run on your way to bigger and better things. And I'm a 100% sure there will be bigger and better things. Clearly, you have the talent and he does as well. Awesome!

Well done. He really is a picture of health and fitness. Having just watched Justines vlog, she commented that the dressage arenas were all very close together. Donut seemed to cope with that. Best wishes for the rest of the season.

Donut jumped so well in the showjumping and cross country. He managed the bigger jumps so well. He definitely preferred them. Bit more practice of the dressage test and he will be sub 30. He is a superstar 🌟 lovely seeing Red again he is so handsome. Looking forward to seeing Maggie out and about again. Don’t want her feeling left out. You were fab 🥰

"Came on the angle, pooing my pants" you're hilarious! We've all felt that before, and it's nice to be reminded some people do think lets get on with it and see how it goes and not try and make everything perfect! Also to add, he looks VERY SMART at this level, I think he was thinking everything was a bit below him before so I'm excited to see him tackle some bigger fences!

Donut looked lovely in the dressage, too bad about the accidental jog. He was really powering over the jumps in the show jump round, and wasn’t the least bit phased by the fence height, the water tray (we call that a Liverpool in the US) or the triple combination. (I personally hate triple combinations with only a stride in between. Especially if the last fence is an oxer. I think you guys call it a “spread”? My fear of that type of combination stems from a bad accident I had at least a decade ago, when I didn’t have enough impulsion coming in to the combo, and my horse managed to clear the first two jumps, but just didn’t have enough impulsion to make it up and across the oxer. He tried, but we ended up crashing through the fence and both of us falling. My horse was fine, thankfully, but I hit the ground in an unusual way, pretty much getting slammed on my back and having the wind knocked out of me and a LOT of pain in my spine. That was my first experience with the show medic and my trainer telling me not to move, and having to be strapped on a hard backboard and fitted with a cervical collar for my ambulance ride to the emergency room. Thankfully, I escaped with some sprains and bruises, but it was quite scary and has put me off of one stride triple combinations ever since). You and Donut looked amazing over your triple, though! Too bad you couldn’t get more cross country footage; your pictures look epic! Congrats on a good run! Onwards and upwards…😊
