Yes, I’m 65 years of age and I moved from Hawaii (my home) to Mexico 2 1/2 years ago. I am a Senior, Disabled Female Solo Traveler. It can be difficult being disabled, however, I am not going to sit in a room all day feeling sorry for myself and having no life. I will keep going “till the wheels fall off”.
Absolutely I agree, and I love your enthusiasm about life
Bravo 👏 🍾 🎊 🎉
Right on, hon.👍🏽
Janice, I appreciated your story. I'm a 71yo US single international adoptive dad. My son is now grown and I'm beginning the process of moving to Paris. Thanks for the honest inspiration !!
You are very welcome and thank you for following me and subscribing
French expat here, I am really enjoying getting to know you. Our lives are running in parallel, I chose a new path at 71 and now 86 I share your enthousiasme. During the war I was growing up south of Fontainebleau.
Wow! Thank you for the kind words.
I did it when I was 52….28 years ago…. I found Fuerteventura on holiday from UK ,made a 4 year plan and here I am! Best wishes 🙋
Thank you!
Its 9:30 at night here in Toronto, Canada, and I just found your channel and was so charmed, I suscribed to you. I am turning 70 this year and I have to tell you I was fascinated with your story. As a Gemini, I have always had an adventerous spirit but it was always tempered by my cusp Taurus which stands for nest building and caution.🙂Like you, I was an only child and always wanted to teach. Went to university and got very discouraged. I married late in life, got divorced and have 3 loving sons. You really touched a spot in my heart with your story Janice. Have always loved the French language. Canada being bilingual, we took it in high school and I carried it on in university. Sadly, I did have an ear for languages but never used my abilities. I learned Italian and became fairly fluent in my marriage mostly through my language skills. I still understand a lot of French but do not practice it any more. It has always been my dream to visit Paris but the closest I got to it was when my mom and I went on her bucket list trip to see where I was born in the UK. (that's another saga). I find winters very hard now up here in Canada and just came back from a trip south. You have whet my travel appetite. Who knows? Maybe one day soon I will have the pleasure of meeting you. Also absolutely LUUV a Texas accent.🥰
If you ever come to Paris, please come see me
You’re my hero Janice! I’ve been dreaming of living in Paris for years. I’m almost 63, and although am an American citizen, I was born in Europe and have an EU passport. Fear has kept me from going forward with my dream, and once the Pandemic hit, the thought of something like this happening while all alone in Europe paralyzed me even more. And now the uncertainty with the war in Ukraine (poor souls, praying for them) has me thinking again if I will ever be brave enough to make the move and leave my comfortable, though not satisfying current life. You are a lovely lady and I’m sure you’ll be fine, but I am not very social and I don’t know if I’d be able to be all alone in another continent. I’ll keep watching you to get inspired, and perhaps one day, I’ll meet you in France!
Thank you for writing and I do appreciate it and you need to watch my next video it will be out next week or the next week and it’s about living here alone and he will answer a lot of questions about me and about living alone.
I also live in Amsterdam, I am single 70 years old and want to change my life for an while now. Don,t know where to start where to go, maby Spain, because of the climate .?
I think Janice is such an inspiration. Let,s not give up our dream.
Good Luck.
Evelyn.
@@evelynoostenbroek9581 Evelyn I agree let’s don’t.
@@evelynoostenbroek9581 thank you for your kind words!
Oh my of course you can do this. Please email me one day and if you are serious let me help you develop a plan.
Janice, before you, I thought I was too old. I am 72, feel good most of the time and have loved France since I was a child. I visited back in 2000 and fell in love with the country especially the food and the wine and the French way of life. I will let nothing hold me back this year. Looking forward to your next videos ( living in France on a budget.) BTW I find your accent charming and comforting.
Thank you so much snow we need to do what we need to do
Thank you for your inspiring videos. I am 63 and was beginning to wonder if it was too late to pursue my dreams. It’s not! Thank you for the inspiration and life lesson.
Thank you for your kind words and subscribe and keep listening Karen
You are so right, to keep adventure in your life--especially as we age, it is vital to have new experiences and something to look forward to.
Absolutely a must I agree with you
So inspiring. I moved to the U.S. 30 years ago, and I think it is time to move again. Thanks, Janice! France, here I come?
Go for it!
Oh my goodness! I always thought there was something wrong with me because I always wanted more from my life. I’m 48 years old, close to being an empty nester and I want to sell all of my things and live in New York. You inspire me. Thank you!
Do it!!! You won't regret it. NY is great.
Do it asap! 👍
Go for it!!!! Cheering you on.
Do it!!!
Susan, I love your plan! I think we all “secretly” dream of running away to another chapter of our lives. Some of us actually get to follow that dream.
NY is waiting! ☕️🤍
OMG, just bumped into your channel and smiled for 27 minutes!! Keep it coming! I love your message and the inspiration. Thank you!
Oh, that makes me smile. Thank you so much for your kind words.
Being married several times is an experience, me to. People always made jokes about it, I'm over it. At least I did marry them and walked out with what I walked in with. Life experiences
Women who don't want to be mothers are not selfish. Please don't perpetuate that myth. Everyone has different reasons for their choices in life . Let's embrace each other's choices not shame other's by using selfish as a description. I'm glad you found your happiness!
I did not say women who didn’t want to be mothers were selfish. I said I was a selfish person and that’s one reason why I chose not to have children. There was no shame or blame put on anyone else. I just knew at a younger age I was too selfish to give of myself to be a mom because if you are a mom you know what it’s like you have to give 110%. I was able to do that I had an older age.
Don’t be so defensive! She never said that women who don’t want children are selfish.
@@JaniceInFrance Yes I understood. But you still labeled your choices at the time as "selfish" . Which has a negative connotation, For yourself and others. I just feel that we all need to stop putting negative labels on our choices in life for ourselves and others. Why not just say, I was at a time in my life when I was focused on other areas? Why is that selfish? We are from an older generation, myself included where we were too quick to label people and situations. The younger generations are evolving past this and maybe we should try to as well!. In any case I love your videos and hope to retire to France myself someday soon. 🙏
@@jeanjeannie4590 I just told the truth!
Ohhh My Gosh my sweet heart 😃 !!!
I love this vintage merry-go-round❤wow
I have a secret to tell you that is exactly what I fell in love with and why I moved here was that merry-go-round
I enjoyed listening to you and your story. You have been courageous in moving to France. You are definitely an inspiration. ⭐️👍😊
I think we all had that courageous spirit about us somewhere we just have to find it. Thank you for your kind words.
Janice, Thanks for telling your story which is inspiring me. God bless you.
You are so welcome
Great to learn about you & your background! Living your best life in France & inspiring others- 🇫🇷

It takes courage to move from one country to another, youre an inspiration.

Thank you so much Ron.
Your story is so inspiring. I'm 36 and just started college for the first time a few months ago. I'm slowly learning we're never too old achieve the things we want in life.
No Derek we are not. I was 40 when I receive my masters
Congratulations. Life goes by very fast, as you know. I hope you will continue to try new things as you get older. 👍

What a lady. What a life ❤️ I feel like watching you is seeing my future self 🥰
Wow that’s a very nice complement just make sure you don’t make the same mistakes I did along the way lol
Looking forward to retirement after 27 years teaching. I'll find a part-time job for a while and save...and continue to help my child through college. Then, it's adventure time for me! I'll have a little while to take trips and figure out where I'd like to be. Feels so good to be able to dream again after so many years of wake-up, work, rinse, repeat! Thank you for for sharing your inspiring story with us and for igniting the spark!
Well, you are very welcome. Now I have to admit I have trouble with the wash, rinse, repeat. I need to find a little bit more of what I had when I was teaching. Sometimes I find it very difficult to do the things that really need to be done because I just want to play lol.
I could watch this video over and over! Thank you for your inspiration! I’m making plans to move to Israel…. I was like you, I tried to move to Israel a few years ago, I was going to volunteer in Israel to teach English in a school. And I was going to volunteer for 2 years, and then after getting my visa, the big “c” came and I was not allowed to go! So, I just let it go…. Until I saw this video you made! I hope to be in Israel this fall…. Saving like crazy, looking at every video from folks in Israel! I’m following you.. because your vid’s are amazing and full of things i need to do too,,. Thank you so much!!!❤
You are very welcome please please please let me know when you get to Israel. Maybe you ought to do a video or two or three
I love this. I am moving to Denver. and just by listening to this it just made me want to go. My daughter is getting married in Africa. and some of the family has poured rain on us. But as a mother, I told her you have only one life to live. Go for it
Absolutely you know it doesn’t have to be France. Our dream doesn’t have to be friends. It just happened tp be my dream. I used to live in Cameroon what part of Africa?
Bravo, Janice, that was a great one!👏👏👏🌹💕
Thank you so much!
Just found you. What an inspiration. I grew up in Germany and been dreaming for decades of spending 6 months or more back in Europe.
I put the dream away when covid hit. But you have made me drag it back out of the old mental file cabinet. Thank you. Merci. Danke schon.
Oh, this is fabulous yes dragged right back out and keep thinking about it
Hi Janice,
I’ve been following you since your first podcast. Moving to France at your age of 70 got me hooked, since I’m 78. The difference is I’ve had Colon Cancer for 6 years and had to raise my 2 children alone after divorce. Fortunately, my daughter still lives with me as I’m starting to need some serious help. Done with about me.
I do admire you and wish you all the best. However, I have been keeping up with your podcast very regularly but recently I’ve missed a few days and now that I’m back you have so many new podcast’s I don’t know where to start, Sigh!! How did you manage to get so many new ones. I’ll be trying to catch up till the cows come home and I do not want to miss a thing. You are so courageous!!! Where do I start!!! Sigh!
I hope your life in France remains WONDERFUL!!!
Many Blessings,
Sherry L. Smith
You are so sweet Mary I do appreciate that but I will tell you after you get through with these podcast they won’t be on my CZcams anymore. I will have a special place for them but I will have a CZcams coming up on March 23 and if you watch that, then I’ll tell everybody and give you the link of where they will be.
Take care of yourself
Hello Janice,
I just wanted to tell you, how much I admire your courage and determination for your adventure. I am an almost 70 yr old Canadian lady who discovered France a few years ago, when my husband and I planned and had an amazing Adventure to several different parts of France. We truly fell in love with France and it’s culture. It seems so strange to us how a very colloquial couple such as ourselves could be so drawn to this place so far away. Before we left, we knew we would return, but then the world took some serious twists and we are still planning our return.
I am so happy for you taking this plunge, with all its challenges and absolute thrills. We hope we can perhaps visit you some time soon. I had viewed pictures of Chateau Fountain Bleu before our first visit, but prioritized other sights to pack into our time there. I simply did not wish to visit Versailles like so many tourists. All its glided mirrors and hallways were such evidence of the misery that existed during its heyday. Fountaine bleu seemed somehow different, just a different vibe from area.
I understand now after visiting France that I definitely have had many life experiences there at one time and I just bonded with the countryside as though I had finally returned to a very beloved home even though I know I have never traveled far from my Canadian home before.
Awaiting and dreaming still for us , our return to a place we grew to love so very quickly. Wishing you much love and happiness, and so many thanks for sharing your life experiences both past and present.
Thank you for your kind words. Please let me know what happens
You are inspiration to me . We went to Paris 1 1/2 years ago. I fell in love with it but until I went to Jerusalem last year. That’s when I said ok Lord, how do I make this move happen of cuourse we still have a high schooler at home, but my dream is there. Greetings from Texas❤😊
What part of Texas are you from? You know I was born in Pasadena
Janice-I was meant to stumble on your channel. You are an INSPIRATION! I have so much more to say but at least, at the moment, I can say YES-I subscribed and I am VERY excited about your channel 😊!
Wonderful and merci beaucoup!
I so enjoy listening to your stories. My mother, who is 98 and just waiting for death, never did anything in her life and always criticized me saying I was chronically unsatisfied with things. Janice , I have lived all over the U.S and each year, with the exception of 2020, my birthday gift to myself is a trip to a new country. I believe there are some of us that understand that life is very short and if you don't hurry and extract all the flavor you can from it your time runs out.
Absolutely and if you ever ever ever make it my way, please let me know when we will meet and just talk and talk and talk
@@JaniceInFrance I have one more of my gift to myself trips coming up to Iceland and then after that I am going to start scouting France to see where I land. I will definitely make it a point to meet up with you I would love to barvarder avec toi en marcharnt Versailles. Merci
Hello, Janice in France, I love your zest for living. Like you, I love to discover new places. I am also a single parent and did all my travels solo. In my early sixties, I visited Montpellier. I landed in Paris took the train to Montpellier. On my way back home I stayed a week in Paris, I did the Louvre, walked half way up the Eiffel Tower, and continued to the top via the elevator; visited some other tourist attractions, etc. When I was in the South of France, I was fantasizing about moving there. (I then got that bug out of my system). After spending three weeks in Portugal I was making plans to spend most of the Canadian winters in Portugal; then Covid happened. As a solo traveller, I have done a fair bit of traveling across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa but always wanted to stay for longer periods in one country.
I will be 70 in a few weeks and felt rob of some good travel years due to Covid. Your Vlog is my renewed inspiration that at 70 years one can still follow through with big and bold dreams.
Oh that sounds so interesting oh my goodness I would love to hear about your travels. Thank you for your kind words. If you ever make it back here let me know and I’ll have a cuppa coffee with you or a glass of wine
@@JaniceInFrance Thanks for the invite for coffee. I would love to meet up with you sometime soon.
Janice, I feel so similar to you about not being satisfied and always wanting more and working for it! I never thought I would be getting my masters but here I am doing it. I moved to France to be an English teaching assistant back in 2021 in Bordeaux and boy was it not what I thought it would be. I hated my job, I was unable to find accommodation so I had to share a place on the school campus I worked at with a very bad roommate, and all in all, I ended up leaving France that same year.
I still have the same dream of going back to live for longer (preferably in the south too!) and I am trying to make it happen for 1-2 years from now, only with a better job!! and a better living situation. I admire your resilience and determination moving to France. I am 23 and fear missing valuable time with my parents by moving to France, but at the same time, it's what my heart wants. Ive been watching your videos but still dont understand how you landed such a great apartment and so quickly. In Bordeaux, I went to every single real estate agency there was in the city and outer areas and not one said they could help me due to not having a full time job. And I speak French!!! This is why I am now looking for a full time job in France before going so it will hopefully be easier, and in my field. I wish I was born with a dream that was a little bit easier but France is what my heart has been set on since I was 13 years old.
The apartment was absolutely nothing but the right time the right place. I had seen this apartment in 2018 when I went on a six weeks solo trip when I couldn’t find anything for days and days I would search online then finally I called my landlord and asked if this would be available and they said yes it was just Lady luck and God watching over me.
@@JaniceInFrance amazing, thank you! It wasn’t even a Airbnb it was just a random apartment you saw for sale on vacation?
@@morgank7560 no I met a friend of a friend on Facebook lol
I am a 66 years young Dutch male with partner and as a mirror story always wanted to live in Canada. The observations about " all the bits and pieces" required by France PALE in comparison with what Canada exacts out of one without giving ANY perspective , France is a garden walk. I have long ago given up on Canada , while also fluent in French. Each time now when descending south through France towards Spain I will hear the ring of your experiences in France : believe me , France IS GENEROUS without people realizing this. Restez saine , sûre , et heureuse !!
Oh my goodness, what a kind person. Thank you so much these words meant so much to me.

Hi Janice! What an inspiring life story. I'm 37 and like yourself I have not yet feel the call to be a mother at all. I have preferred to travel, live abroad and enjoy other experiences which really fulfill me. It is nice to know we as women have other options to become mothers a bit later in life if we choose so.Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful story of how you became a mother and how you went after your dreams at every stage of your life. Hi Janice, I'm a new follower.... It's so inspirational to see your videos and learning about the process is great! I'm 58 and my husband is 65 and we want to retire in Italy. I feel that if we stay here in the states we're both going to end up in a nursing home. I'm tired of living in the rat race and working for a short little vacation or no vacation! We used to travel so much when we first got together and through the early part of our careers. We went for a period of about 20 years without really traveling once or twice here and there but we miss it so much and we realize that we need the adventure back in our lives! I hope that it will keep us active and our minds young! It's a little scary to think about growing old in a foreign country but it's also exciting and I'm hopeful that we can do it! You give us hope!
Well thank you so much Nanci and if I’ve given you that little nudge that you need to fulfill your dreams and I’m glad to be part of it
Truly inspirational, Janice! We already jumped in your journey, that took us thru your difficult to great moments, sorry to hear about the loss of Steve, everything not in our hands, but we try, plan, and hope to do better, coming to terms with it, but sure we learn our lessons, its so joyful to hear your story, experiences you are sharing, and the pathways for many to go across the pond or not, you bet! Nice shoot around your neighborhood, delightful indeed!

We returned to USA in 2014 but I always talk of going back to France for a year so we can immerse ourselves in the French culture. We are in our 60’s & he speaks fluent French ( I do not!) 😊. Please continue to share you journey. I am definitely inspired
Thank you and I will, and please let me know about your journey

Well thank you for your nice words and I’m hoping that you subscribed? If you don’t know how just let me know and I’ll walk you through it. The reason I’m saying is cause I didn’t know how to do it first either my daughter had to help me LOL I thought it cost money she laughed a lot at me.

I really love your apt tour...it covered so many natural aspects of your apartment. No one ever just shows the normal part of life. And the normal part of life is so IMPORTANT...and rare. It's the most important. You did it so personal and it made it so insightful and wonderful.
Thanks for being sharing and being candid. You are a lovely woman.
Thank you for your kind words also
