    The grocery store pay for cart deal is like ALDIs grocery store in the states. There is an insert that goes into the cart hook up. That when inserted pushes out the coin! There ya go! Money back! 😊

    Love your videos and the apartment tour. I moved to France from the UK five years ago when I retired and it's the best decision I ever made. A couple of points: exposed pipes are certainly not the norm in any French home built or renovated in the past several decades. My guess is that the owner upgraded the property at some point but didn't want to spend the money on sinking the pipes into the walls. I don't know anyone with exposed pipework. The regulations for plumbing and electrics in France are among the most stringent in the world, but exposed pipes are really a cosmetic issue and I doubt that the regs cover this. On electricity, the issue is voltage, not wattage. Europe operates on 230 volts against 120 in the US. If you plug a US food processor into a French socket, it could well explode. Electronic gizmos like computers and phone chargers usually work on either voltage. The label will state this. Welcome to France, Janice. You're making the most of an amazing adventure.

    Hi Janice: I am very curious about costs. I am 70 Years old and my spouse and I are strongly considering a move to France for the remainder of our golden years. Can you explain what happens regarding Social Security payments when you relocate permanently to France. Specifically I am curious about what happens to Medicare withholding for Medicare. For me that is in excess of $500 per month. Does that stop and can I count that as income to purchase French Healthcare? Thanks; Wayne

    • @JaniceInFrance
      @JaniceInFrance Pƙed dnem

      You keep your Medicare if you want are you can let your Medicare go if you want. It depends on if you’re ever going to go back to the states. I had some friends that just recently moved to niece and they let both of their Medicare coverages go because they don’t plan on going back to the states. I still have my Medicare. You receive your pension and you’re Social Security through your check in your bank account in the states. You cannot get a bank account here in the country of France unless you have a residency card. As of now, I still have all my money in my bank in the United States.

    Moves, even small ones are incredibly stressful. I made an Insterstate move about 8 years ago and I ended up with Shingles from the stress . I was only moving 500 miles away but I was also travelling back and forth to interviews before the move and driving in horrible weather. It's a lot which is why I commend you on making this move.

    So so happy to see you again! I have never been to France but I will someday. I’m torn between moving to the UK and France. So I think a trip will help immensely with coming to a decision. Listening and watching you explain your way of life now and how you’re handling it is very helpful. We are the same age and sometimes it feels like it should be easier to decide where you really want to live and enjoy, but sometimes not! It’s got to be hard learning new ways of life and rules, and customs etc. It’s hard for me to understand how you as a single person at this age living a new life without a partner or friend from the states. I have so many questions for you, but I am going to use my google to see how many I can get answered! 😆 😅 I hope we will see you very soon again to see how your story goes❀. Til then, Ciao👋👋

    I so enjoy listening to your stories. My mother,who is 98 and just waiting for death, never did anything in her life and always criticized me saying I was chronically unsatisfied with things. Janice , I have lived all over the U.S and each year, with the exception of 2020, my birthday gift to myself is a trip to a new country. 29:39 You don't pay for a caddie. You put one Euro in - but more likely a plastic or metal token (un jeton) - to unlock it, and you get it back when you lock the caddie back in the rack. You should have waited one second longer at 23:59 and you would have seen her getting her Euro back. It was implemented as an incentive to get people to stop leaving their caddies strewn all over the parking lots or downright bringing them home and it worked.

    Coucou Janice 👋 (another way to say hi) I came across this video today and am curious if you think all your points are still valid after you've been here for another year? I like your videos and your spirit but i think some of the habits only apply to big cities. Where i live I often strike up conversations with strangers and i also select vegetables myself. The stall holders even provide little baskets to be filled and taken to them when we are ready to pay. Down here in the South Parisians are considered to be as foreign as me (dual nationality) so habits are pretty regional and that's all part of life's rich tapestry 🙂

    Hi Janice, we bought French property, we paid tax for the rest of the year only. So we bought in October and paid for 3 months. The costs for the real estate agent were for the seller. We only paid the Notaire. That was all so no additional costs. We even received a small amount from the Notaire after few months because the actual costs were lower than expected. The mandatory technical report is for the seller. The sale was easy and perfectly arranged. The rest we arranged ourselves, like electricity, internet etc..
