Rise of neo-fascist groups in Italy, Mussolini legacy still resonates with some ‱ FRANCE 24

  • In Italy the government of Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the post-fascist party Brothers of Italy, has been criticised for being complacent about the rise of neo-fascism. Since the arrival of Meloni as the head of state, Italian neo-fascist groups are gaining members and becoming more and more visible. An unapologetic fascism is growing in the peninsula. Our correspondent in Italy, Natalia Mendoza, went to meet some of these nostalgic followers of Benito Mussolini to understand who they are, and what threat they are to Italian society.

Those groups have existed for many decades. They are the physiological safety valve of the right, exactly as the ultra-left groups have been for the left (as long as it has existed). You have reinvented the wheel. This alarm is now being raised by that part of the italian right that claims to be a left. The problem is certainly not this, but rather that in Italy, as in the rest of Europe, there is a lack of true democratic competition between sides with a different economic approach. The parties, economically speaking, are all right-wing and are divided only on accessory problems, which concern particular sections of society, but never the people as a whole. In fact, they defend the interests of investors and not ordinary people. In the next elections there will be a collapse in turnout. The Americans are in charge anyway, so what's the point of voting? Good life to you. If you are not directly involved in politics, think about eating, dressing and heating the house when needed.

The Americans only went to war with Italy because of the AXIS not because of Fascism. During its early period its artists and occultists including Anthroposophists had a fair amount of liberty. If the guilds took preference to that was not a bad idea. Not a perfect regime by any means however the reality is Fascism equals Order so some element is definitely tenable.
