Thank you so much for the great video as always 👊
what you think about the canon rf 24-105mm?
“Ultimate” Fighting Championship
Can we "Win" this Fro ...?
@Jarod - I went to the giveaway-link above, but what kind of time is "nidnight" :D
Brick is 200g lighter than the actual 28-70 f2 😂
Totally dude, its heavy. But the shots I get out of them are amazing. I just did mu first vlog with that lens, its ridiculous, but fun. But I du recommend it. This was a great video by Jared
HAHAHA so good
Because glass is heavier, denser. Still funny tho
Yeah. Took it to the park last week and took shots of the kids. Damn my forearm was shaking after a few hours.
@@Prabhu_njd yeah time to do some forearm exercises
With the price of 4 of them you can buy a Leica M10 which only a shoots B&W lol
MrNice Ty 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
So? It’s a Leica
@@michaelbell75 Who said you have to buy all 6 of those lenses? Also lens hold their value much longer, you typically only need one of its kind every few years and are a much better investment than camera bodies so it's pretty freaking hilarious that you would call him clueless while proving how clueless you are. Also it's not how the Leica is $8k camera but more about how insanely expensive it is for what's ultimately a stripped down camera that acts like a black&white film camera just with higher resolution, it's literally something you would get if you're rich and a camera collector or just REALLLLLLLLY love black&white photos and have the income to buy such a camera. Those 6 lens will basically last you for at least a decade if you take good care of them (probably longer).
Also a Porsche Carrera GT sucks in terms of practicality and infotainment, it is outrageously expensive and costly to live with and nowhere near comfortable, but yeah, they sold more than two
LMAO this should be the comment of the year
Funny to go back to videos like this and hear "canon is lacking in the body side" and now see the R3 - R5 and R6MKII, specially the new glass. Cannon came a long way with their new line up
Funny, the only two lenses you didnt include (24-105 & 35) are the only ones I will buy for my RF camera.
They Both are great Lens though and now 85 f2 macro.
Love this breakdown of this lens. Im looking to get this Lens for my EOS R for my Golf Vlogs. Thanks for this one!
Great Video Jared! I have an EOS R and your analysis is quite right. Through your give away I got the FroPack Bundle and I have to say, it's the best presets I've ever bought. Nice and polished presets, not at all exagerated as most presets packages. Great Work!
I just bought the 85mm f/1.2 a few days ago... I've always wanted this level of a portrait lens even when I was using the 5DM3 but I wasn't ready. Looking forward to using this on my R5. Stunning lens.
I like the 35 it’s a great lens and you can’t beat the price. That’s my walking around combo
Canon did it right. If you have a decent sensor, the glass becomes the more important part of the kit -the old saying "if you spend money, spend it on glass and not the camera". My EOS R gives me fantastic shots, but unfortunately when it gets to my passion, bird photography, it can't replace my ageing, trusty 7DII. Great vlog!
i actually like the eos rp. it is a good upgrade and bridge to canon's mirror less system for me. the price drop and new firmware added a decent value to the body. overall a great camera and and brings old ef lenses to life as the focus system works so well . looking forward to what canon offers with their new bodies. also the rf lenses looks amazing! the price tag is too professional for me. id like to see some consumer level prime and even pancake lenses for the rf mount.
Love it! I'm just a month plus away from moving in this direction. Your video stoked me even more :)!!
2020 is Canon's year. I envision all those people who jumped ship to Sony coming back.
Really great stuff !! the 85mm f1.2 looks just amazing !!
This will make damage to your bank account.
Johannes Nissl and to your back if you have to carry some of them around 😂
It has for me. But its so worth it. My friends give me crap for vlogging with the 28-70, but as a photographer I love love love that lens.
ULTIMATE damage
'start with' 🤣 - that's like a lifetime aspiration!
The old EF 85mm F1.2 might be kinda slow. But with the RF adapter on the EOS R, it hits focus on the eye every time! The eye auto focus works really well with much older lenses too, which is great if you have a bunch of those like myself. That's one of the reasons I love the EOS R system.
Thx Fro'
Cool video. True that Canon has succeeded to deliver very very appealing lenses.
Btw 28-70 isn't so weird there are plenty of 28-75/2.8 out there. So this as an f2 is already a mini evolution.
It's nice to also see that the newcomers like Canon in ML are also bringing great innovative features. The manual focusing system of Panasonic on S series is just tremendous, OTOH they clearly lag on the glass side for sure.
2020 great year for customers.
Just wanted to thank you for your podcast on not sentimentally hanging on to kit and the economic sense of selling old bodies in time for new bodies. I pulled the trigger on an R and really enjoy it, but if the mk2 adds IBIS and faster fps I'll be heeding your advice and selling/buying.
"With big glass comes big responsibility" - Noice 😆
A few days ago I ordered an EOS R and the 24-70mm (2.8). That's my gear budget for the next year or two. Looking forward to checking out the others... eventually.
Are you on Instagram?
I would like to see some of your shots using your new combo.
Thanks.
And... roll on to September 2020 (the dismal year) .The R5 & R6 bodies are now out and in the hands of many. The R5 is a great photography camera in particular, and coupled with some of that RF glass it is a great system. I recently got the RF 70-200mm and it sure is compact and much lighter than the EF 2.8. It is a superb lens indeed. 10 hours doing a wedding won't feel so painful.
The brick is the PERFECT stand in for the 28-70! I just borrowed one from Canon for a week and it is a big boy!! Thanks as usual for all the info with a little humor
I have the 15-35 and the 24-70, and both of those lenses are sharper than any competing glass I've used thus far. And SUPER quiet for video.
Ultimate fighter. Just bought this lens. Can't wait till it turns up.
Hey Jared thank you for the great content. 🙏🏼
Yeah totally, this was a great video. He is on point with this one.
The 85mm RF f1.2 is the Ultimate lens from the word go! Thank you Fro
Good call. You tell a compelling story. Very smart.
Am actually waiting for the eos Rii. Sold all my canon DSLR and EF lensens. Waiting for a good R body. Then gonna go RF all the way. Ive been really hyped eversince they announced rf lenses. Looking forward to the ultimate holy trinity lens. F2s
Ultrawide lenses are underrated! When traveling I was surprised to find my walkabout lens was my 10-18mm. Anything big or scenery benefits from it of course, but street photography too. Easy to keep the camera at your side or act like your shooting one thing when you're actually shooting a person at one side of the frame.
I started with the 50 1.2L and 70-200RF. I need a wide angle now. I’m leaning to the 28-70 over the 24-70
when i was learning photography i was always told the body was less important than the glass. seems canon has done it the right way round. work to your strengths, decades of making lenses vs 2-3 years of building mirrorless cameras. do what you can for your first body attempt to get into the market then make the next one better. i'm patient, i can wait......
I have the RP. Won't be using the R because I'm more photography heavy and less video, but i use the RF 15-35 2.8 and RF 70-200 2.8
This lens combo as a landscape Photographer and portrait photographer is killer.
Won't be updating on glass for a long time but I will be getting the R5 or R6 in the coming years as they release and drop in price a little.
You’ve got quite the RF lens arsenal!
I just watched the McKinnon Video. You Sir are really a stand up guy. Subscribed.
Hi Jared, I have my 70-200 2.8 EF for ten years and I used it in Oman and Namibia under VERY dusty conditions. And it is still clean inside. Others like the 24-70 that move in and out during zooming have all collected dust over time. And you know that cleaning inside the lens is only for absolute experts. For me a good argument NOT to go to a 70-200 that moved in and out while zooming.
The RF IS zoom lens are great for photo & especially video. But when I see the photos from the prime RF 50 & 85mm, oh my, these are the ones I love. I heard that the RF 135mm f1.8L will come & I wonder if the RF 35mm f1.2L or 1.4L might come as well
The reason I bought the eos r was the lense line up mostly the size of 70-200 and the quality of the 24-105 definatly need a few more primes but they are kicking everyone else's ass in the glass department. I mostly shoot when backpacking and climbing so size is critical if its light that's good to but I only have so big of a bag so love the 70-200 for that reason.
Aye, I do 2-day-hikes sometimes, needed a backup camera and wanted a better stream-camera, so I got the RP and 24-105 on sale. Used it two days, sold my 5D4 and got the R too ^^ Just returned from 2 weeks of Japan with the 24-105 and R. That's 1.8kg saved compared to my "usual" travel setup of 5D4, 24-70, 70-200. The 24-105 is amazing and the IS compensated for the loss of aperture. Today I sold my EF 24-70 2.8 and took possession of the RF 24-70 2.8. Now I'm waiting for a good price on the RF 70-200. The glass is just amazing. Was really debating the 28-70 2 though, but decided against it as it's much heavier and I prefer the 70-200 when shooting candids/events anyways.
That 35 is actually pretty awesome. Great price and so useful
Interesting video, Jared! I'm researching a FF System, and so far, was considering the Nikon Z7, Panasonic S1 (no need for S1R due to the "High Resolution Mode" in both these cameras), and also, one of the Canon FF models like the R, though I'm not fond of that "Multi-Function Bar" control. In terms of image sharpness and detail in large prints, do you have a preference of one of these systems? Thanks~
Jared, I love the fact the the 70-200 is smaller and lighter than the current EF version. Question, if someone didn't have either glass, would it be smart to buy the RF version and use an EF adapter while waiting for the pro full frame R camera? Would the images suffer using an adapter? I am going to be shooting some World Cup Downhill Mountain biking this summer, and the bag gets pretty heavy while walking up and down the mountain. So that new RF 70-200 would be super helpful.
Gonna buy the holy grail next week!! So looking forward
i only got the 28-70. It is great for weddings and portraits. has a distinct look that people will be like, "what u use for that picture" soon i will get a 15-35 and 70-200 after that.
do you mind the size of the 28-70, is it worth it ? and is it really different enough from the 24-70? i can‘t decide 😖
great video and thank you for a lot of great information thanks.... what would be your choice of lenses for ocean sunsets and rises ? for a crop canon
Most epic wind tunnel to date!
Nice to see all that pro glass out there but for us street photographers i'd prefer some more light affordable primes in the line of that 35. Like a 24 and a 50 f1.8, that would be sweet.
Once again, we've seen what Canon can do with the 1DX3. 20fps with mechanical shutter and mirror locked. When they release that pro mirrorless camera, it's going to really stir things up in the game.
...Dont agree but Canon make brilliant Copiers and Printers ..Love my Desktop Canon Printer and I treasure my Canon Lanyard Keyring I picked up at a trade show
Ultimate C-C-C-Combo!! And when something better comes around Ultimate C-C-Combo Breaker! (Killer Instinct)
YES!!!! 64 hit ultra combo!!!
KI GOLD!!!
Love RF. I have all those except the 24-70.
I only have the 24-240 and the 28-70 f2, my next lens is going to be the 50 1.2, any recommendations??
So, we can use EF lenses in EOS R by attaching the adapters. Is there any adapter to use RF lenses in the other CANON cameras?
My second question to you is, what kind of adapters can be fit in a NIKON D7200 to use my CANON EF lenses?
Got it right?
Hey there Jared, I don't know if anyone has brought this up recently, but I was wondering if you could do an updated version of this video for 2022. I have a couple of the lenses, but I would love to see a 2022 version of this video with your thoughts on the new lenses that have come out since, or if your opinion has changed on any of the one's included in this video, especially with the new bodies (R6, R5, and R3).
As a non-professional i am quite happy that Nikon started their new lineup with more affordable lenses
jo schulz they don’t really have anything interesting in the pipeline though. F4s and 1.8s aren’t really a tour de force.
this! while 1.2 is very cool, its just too expensive for the mass market. only pros can afford it and thats usually not where the majority of your sells are. Bought my 50mm f1.8s for 330€. canons 1.2 is about 2300€. worth it? for me not.
@@philippscheithauer Bet Canon will soon have a line of lenses suited for your budget. I will buy the pro-glass as soon as a Canon pro-body is available.
@@MrAyybee2cold i totally agree with you. they keeps bragging about how big the z mount is. and all they did was 2.8 and 1.8 lol.
@@philippscheithauer 330 for a 50mm f1.8 are a lot of money, the RF 35mm f1.8 cost as it's EF equivalent, and if canon mantains this line, i thing we are going to have an affordable line of good lens like 50mm for 130 euros or others lens with prices comparably to the EF USM lines.
Simply the best lens line up in the world 📸
agree, especially when in the gang you have 28-70 f2 to go out and take out the trash like a mobster.
NUCLEAR 64 great lens 😁👊🏼
@@ItzSi :)
witch ist the best allrounder lens for the r6 for video?
Hey Jared, as a highschool graduate, would the RP and the 24-105mm f/4 be ok?
But Jared, how about the Canon RF 85mm f/1,2L DS USM? Could it be the ultimate ultimate portrait lens?
Jerid…. Quick question. Your opinion on my next lens. I like to do nature and for my next lens I’m looking for either 70-200 f2.8 or better reach 100-500 variable. Is the reach of one outweighs the aperture of the other. The price is close but I don’t know.
I have to agree with you Jared because it's the only scenario that makes since, get the glass out first give them something to shoot it on and then wow them with a substantial body that you can build upon and lastly discontinue EF lenses and put your resources on mirrorless.
Recently bought the RP for vacations... will be going with the R5 when it’s available. I have a 7D and the Hebrew trinity of L glass. I don’t see myself using the 7D. Any reason I should keep my current glass or should I just sell it and go with the new RF glass and not look back?
I’ve got the Sony 135. Love it. I’m excited to get th rf in 135
Awesome video, lots of info while being funny too! The only sad thing is the (RF 24-105 F4L IS USM) wasn't included because I feel like it is the best "Jack of all trades master of none" lens for someone that want high-grade gear without breaking the bank because he does it as a UNPAID hobby rather than as a paid job. Of course if you have an unlimited budget then just get the F2.8 Trinity or at least those two (24-70 + 70-200) but then add a Canon R6 body and you're already at 9800$CAD before taxes!!!
If you get that 24-105mm instead of these two other "24 to 200" lens then you save literally 5050$CAD since that other one is just 1250$CAD which is like nothing compare. Like is it worth selling 2 kidneys just for that extra stop of bokeh? The new R6/R5 now being with IBIS, it's definitely not +1 stop of speed that's gonna make a difference. It's also annoying and more risky to travel with a lot of heavy gear on ur back, mostly when it's OP gear!
You’re simply the best gear reviewer. Can you just do two videos a day? #loveit 🙏🏻
He knew the R5 was coming!
Fro low-key wants to switch to Canon 😂
me too... wann go back from sony. as soon as they give me something good....
Roberto Zanrosso I already bought in. I couldn’t wait for a “pro” body but have no issues with my EOS R it’s been great. I can’t wait for the prosumer glass to arrive. Almost went somy but didn’t want to sell a whole kit to switch later and so far I’m not disappointed
@@ianbrown9614 I got the R and love it, it'll be a great second camera when the new bodies arrive.
Ian Brown I agree I almost jumped to Sony but decided to just rent the EOS R and try it for myself which ultimately made me like it a lot and buy one. It’s been awesome for me and whenever a camera with more features get released this will still stay in my bag and act as a 2nd body.
R5 :)))))))))))
You are right on with the RF lenses and the trinity in particular put Canon ahead in mirrorless even before have the leading mirrorless bodies. The EOS R is very good enough to show off the Canon lens power in the marketplace. I love the EOS with the new RF and the fact it also makes all the EF lenses shine too by using adapter.
Now CANON needs an action speed capable mirrorless body with awesome pro grade focus like that in the new 1DX Mk III and I will be happy. They can wait for another future to up their video game in the 4K world but 10 fps action sports is the major void lenseless Sony has filled and nailed for a couple of year now. No need for 20 fps right now but 10 fps with awesome focus wold truly be sweet using the RF lenses.
Sony; you need pro glass with no adapters. Canon; please get the action sports model in the market soon! I want this to replace both my 7D mk II and 5D mk IV in body. They are great awesome DSLR cameras and I truly love them both for all time but they getting old and I need access to the new $$ leadership RF lenses. Jared you need to look at the IPhone 11 and new Samsung S20 Ultra + that use TOF sensors to make a new computer age images (like software bokeh) with simple workflow that the old school mirrorless trilogy cannot match. The camera AI Robots can be your new friend in the new world. Robot cameras in smartphones are a huge rapidly improving world and the greatest threat to all IL camera companies. The ILC world needs to defend the high end or there will be more blood on the streets.
I had a great laugh watching this video with my R6 right in front of me. Thanks Fro.
Sit us way ahead, especially with sigma, tamron, voigtlander, zeiss, rokinon making some amazing lenses for them as well.
The ”L-MOOUUUNNNTTT ALLIIIAAANNNCCCEEEEE” is a classic already!
Rf lenses seems to be just another level , and R6 body it's just what you need it .
Jared what is the best lens for capturing football? I am planning on getting the R6 and football is HUGE in my area.
Its a better kit than the EF equivalent, they are really good, these are exceptional..
Smart move really, they can build optimal mirrorless glass now to make the pros hungry for it, giving time to sort out a (hopefully) worthy pro mirrorless body or two for it.
Canon are in a more fortunate position financially that they can develop and release glass like this and have it largely sit on the shelf, but if they get that first pro body right its going to be a win fall for them and put them squarely at the top of the pro mirrorless market.
Well the pro market covered within the scope of these lenses, which is the biggest sector. The new 1DX mk3 is probably still the body for those who lug round the really long focal lengths.
Hi Jared I would like your suggestion whether have the Rf 24-70 f/2.8 or Rf 24-105 F/4 for wedding and event photography..
Is bulk and price the only reasons for 20-70 2.8 over 20-70 f2? Otherwise would you recommend the F2 lens?
Hey Jared, when canon do release a mirrorless body with IBIS, will it have any compatibility issues with the RF glass that has it's own IS system? Might be a stupid question but i'm not an expert so i wouldn't know :)
No chance. Its common to see Ibis working along with lens IS in other systems. The image becomes even more stable. Check out Olympus'es stabilization system.
@jared polin
I am looking to get a camera + lens in the $2k range. I would prefer a full frame body, because it is available much more cheaply compared to before. I was looking at the R8, however, I am unsure if I can afford these canon lenses. Any recommendations?
This is basically my working set now and I dont regret the investment or selling my EF collection to get fully on the RF lineup. I only shoot stills. This is like having a lighter 5d4 with better glass and an amazing EVF. The only gamble is the 1 card slot but by backing up constantly you can mitigate that risk.
I can’t bring myself to jump, too many years invested, I’m hoping for some bargains in outdated terrible glass
Al St same here. No way I’m I switching to RF mount. Took me years to build my EF collection. And honestly my pics are amazing as is.
Column Wheel - It would great to have an f2 zoom, but then I think to myself that I can achieve and better that with a couple of decent primes which I already have. From the reviews it seems a leap in consistency and convenience with instant focusing and size of equipment, I can still get to where I want with my current setup, looking into a 5DSR at the moment, they’ve got cheap recently!
Nice video Jared. Will you make one for Sony, Fujifilm?
Ultimate combo killer instinct
Nice tools you have for the job man.
Stop, Tony Northrup is going to suffer withdrawal from that F1.2 addiction. Save him!
Made my day
he took us to a lake but he didn't show us the lake
TN = Lame...
Question. I made the switch to Sony a while ago but kept my canon 5dmk3. I have the previous 85mm and 50mm 1.2L series lens, and I’m looking to maybe get the new canon mirrorless. What should I do with those lenses I have?
Any testing with 70-200 L IS or 300 L IS...auto focus and battery life? Whilst shooting with EOS R. Thanks man, keep up the great work.
what good glasses! and as you say now you just need to have a good body, I thought I would migrate to sony, but I think I can stay in canon if an R mk2 comes out
They'll eventually have three RF trinities: 2, 2.8 and 4.
@@michaelbell75 Maybe within 3 years. That would be great.
Lets hope so. I love my 28-70 brick.
I feel so too, but the price difference between each of these gap is just monstrous! I feel like brand new I can afford F4 but used F2.8 though it's gonna be EF instead of RF :/
What is the most light weight dslr camera on the market or the equivalent to a DLSR???????
I think the Nikon Noct 58/0.95 is actually super cool, but I agree that it is such a big unicorn it is almost useless. I have the EOS R got it a couple of weeks after launch. I actually like it, I agree with most of the complaints about it lacking compared to the Sony A7 III but I still like it. I only have one RF lens. The Canon EOS EF glass works perfectly on the EOS R so I'm pretty happy. I am Jonesing like a fiend for the 15-35 so I'll probably sell off the 16-35 EF and get one soon.
Right on! Can't wait for the new bodies, but have to wait anyway for the cash to pay for them.
would the EF 85mm have the same output on an EOS R with the adapter? or does that pristine focus only work with the rf lens
Canon really do make the best glass.
I have the 24-70, I’m wondering if I should get the 28-70 instead now. I’m not sure tho! I have an R5 on the way, so 8 stops IS is nice. But that F2 is drawing me in.
What is your opinion on the kit lens 24-105? I thinking about switching from my 5DM4 to the eos-R
Great job, as always, Jared. One lens that you left out which is a fantastic lens, although an f4, is the RF 24-105L. It’s been called the best kit lens ever and sure, it’s not 2.8, 2, or 1.2, but it’s terrific and I personally love it, especially its sharpness and versatility outdoors. For quite awhile, if not still to this day, Lindsay Adler uses it as her go to lens. Thanks for mentioning the Rf 35 1.8 macro. It’s very good, but not with the quality or specs of the lenses that you covered in the video nor the 24-105.
Sometimes weight is more important! I prefer doing street with a light 50 f1.8 or 35 f2 and the 24-105 really sounds interesting.
Life's Beautiful yes.. i totally agree, my rf24-105 f4l is a fantastic, very capable piece of kit. it works extremely well on my r, and on the street is a very useable focal length. i have other rf glass but, for a kit lens, it is absolutely the best value outright.
RF 24-105 is the only lens I have for EOS 'R'. Will add the RF 70-200 f/2.8 eventually. These were taken recently with the RF 24-105 f/4 and EOS 'R'. sergei-dratchev.pixels.com/featured/montana213-sergei-dratchev.html sergei-dratchev.pixels.com/featured/arizona170-sergei-dratchev.html
i had Nikon 24-70 2.8 for years sold it, i would also prefer 24-105 F4 good for all around. combine with 85 f2 macro. it becomes perfect to do most of the things and RF 100-500mm is fantastic too, i am switching to Canon for Glass and Colors.
"The Brick" standing in for the brick ( I call it a Monster ). Now that I own one, I do miss the slightly wider 24-70mm f2.8, but it is so much sharper at f2.8.
Does adapted EF 85 f1.2 on EOS R is now nailing focus as good as RF version? Or do I have to switch EF for RF version to get better results? Coming from EU it would be a shyt lot of taxes and stuff. EOS R is still 2300EUR and RP (FF mirrorless under $1K) is 1300EUR.
Adn here I am with my EOS RP, 35mm and 24-105mm, none of which are recommended :-D. But fantastic nonetheless.
Yep
This is so accurate :’))
i would go with EOS R and 24-105 F4, 100-500, 85 f2 macro.
Curious about an updated version of this video. I wonder if the 15-35 F/2.8 would be replaced with the 14-35 F/4 for you.
nice quick question I have the eos r and the dinky lol 35mm rf what lens would you suggest next for photos and videos thank you
