- A New Era For Public Transport in Belfast
On Tuesday 28th August 2018 the first of Translink's Glider Buses entered service working trail services running every 30 minutes on route G1 from Dundonald Park & Ride In East Belfast to Colin Town Transport Hub / McKinstry Road in West Belfast via Belfast City Centre the trail services also ran on Wednesday 29th & Thursday 30th August.
In this video we take a ride on 3203 on the east side section of route G1. I personally think these buses are very nice to travel on they are smooth fast and comfy.
There is currently 30 Buses in the fleet. 2 More Buses are on order.
Full services on Route G1 from East to West Belfast & Route G2 to Titanic Quarter will commence on Monday 3rd September 2018.
Engine has a subtle but nice sound to it, very nice bus indeed!!
got on one earlier for the first time in the City Centre; was supposed to get the G2 to the Titanic Quarter, but, me being me, I got on the G1 and nearly ended up a Connswater 😂
The primark In Town was on Fire that day
Nice video matty
Nice Vid matt
The engine is surprisingly loud for a new bus.
Very nice buses indeed!
Indeed they are
congratulations Belfast
A tram similar to the Luas would’ve made more sense, probably not enough money!
I was waiting for the destination announcement voice over to say "an chéad stad eile Cherryhill" its weird that that runs through my head even when Im not driving and I know it's a Northern bus but I still expected it, its just her voice 😅
Shouldn't that be "an chéad stad eile Cnoc Silíní" 😉
Nice video Matty any bus lane protesters 😂
Thanks mate there has been a few
It's a shame they removed many Metro stop signs that were in Irish and replaced them with English-only Glider ones. Also a shame Belfast didn't just get a tram system like Dublin's Luas.
my city bought a longer version of these ones and have almost completely removed all tram lines without 1. I love trams but i like these buses aswell but a shame everyone thinks past trams
All we need now is a "Nice Clean Welcoming City" to match the bus. Instead of the pity it is. The city centre is a disgrace. The council should be ashamed.
Can you make a driver view video please. thanks just want to see how is new system planned
@Carolyn Mussen no problem thanks
@Carolyn Mussen I get it they have separated the driver cabin from the rest it seems. Like a tram cab.
The one problem I found with these buses is if you sit at the very back where you were sitting the engine noise will make you go deaf!
The engine is at the back left of the bus that ps why it is noisy
Despite what some might say about these buses. I actually quite like the sounds of the engines on these new buses because it sounds a lot like a Mk2 Mercedes Citaro. I might take a special trip into town to ride these buses for myself. I like the seating and I will be making a video at some point.
I like these buses too and the engine sound is pretty good I think you will enjoy a ride on one
I am looking forward to riding one and in my opinion they look a wee bit like the Alstom Flexitram at the front around the cab area. When I do my video, I will sit either right at the front and film out of the front window or I will film from the back seat when the vehicle is not busy.
All the best.
A yes the engine makes you go deaf if your at the back but I like the noise itself
its like the bus in sweden
It sounded like you edited out stops, not sure if you did, I could only judge by audio as I'm blind. Did that vehicle have exterior route announcements?
I recorded the video in parts and yep these new buses have onboard route announcements and information screens
Why not just a double-decker?
Why didn't they go for light rail or trolleybus.
Is it actually as noisy as I hear on the video? It's hitting all the gullies at the side of the road. I suppose that can't be helped but it doesn't make the journey that comfortable.
Well they do have a diesel engine which keeps the batteries powers and despite the bumbs it was still a smooth journey
I'll have to sample it. Dundonald has changed out of all recognition since I lived in Comber. Is there a route map anywhere?
Yes the engine is quite loud and the bumps don't help but yes the ride is smooth
Where are the passengers?
Curious as to why it sounds like a Leyland National!
Was thinking that too but i think it does make it sound good
Sitting at the back, to my ear, it sounds like a very beefy V8. No gears. From the front, like a modern tram or trolley.
I believe the engine is a Paccar PX-7 as it sounds very similar to that type.
I thought they were all electric
They are dangerous, uncomfortable, don't have enough seats, just 40, of which only 4 are for the disabled on the floor the rest are on a high platform as the fuel cell and batteries are positioned under the vehicle. The driver is locked in his cabin, doesn't see or hear what's happening on the floor and there's no staff on the floor. I'm nearly crippled with severe arthritis, pinched nerves and more, can't climb onto the seats on platforms, the four seats are usually in use so I can't sit. I've had so many accidents on them with no aid from the driver, at least other passengers are willing to help, I'm too scared to use them, have to find another route with different buses. I have epilepsy, can't drive, so I'm fully dependent on public transport
Belfast is going down the toilet and they come up with this monstrosity...... makes sense stormont!
são paulo acho nunca vai ter um VLT igual , pelo menos a curto prazo , VLT total tem ar condicionado e bi-articulado tem portas pantográfica tipo metrô , muito moderno , o transporte público melhor que o individual, melhor para o meio ambiente
Video's based in Northern Ireland, the videos title and possible subtitles are in English. What the heck are you doing here Portugese?
I want to know what are you doing here.
@@benukasrYT he came for the craic 🤣
30 £million of empty busses, only in Belfast and the ship sank too!
Well this video was taken before the full service started.
Since the full service started on Monday the buses have had good passenger numbers
try getting one in east Belfast...…..standing room only
Hooray, another diesel bus! What fantastic progress! Congratulations, Belfast!😂🤣😅 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
I think a smaller bus would carry that load of people - Laughable!!!
What’s all the fuss about? Seriously? Its just a Fekin bus ... a newer flexi bus
Nice vid so many protesters but many supporters like me what was it like I haven’t been on one yet but they can carry 105 people and replace 87 cars I think it sounds good don’t you think
Thanks aye there has been some protesters about I personally thought the ride was smooth , fast and comfy
