    Great advice! I learned to sit the guitar between my legs early - only because my first guitar was a Flying V and I had no choice. But that set me up for the future with regular guitars. Everyone should try a Flying V at least once LOL.

    I did exactly the same thing. Playing in a band and standing up changed the way I thought about my guitar posture.
    Great stuff as usual. Keep up the excellent work.
    It is appreciated. Be well.

    Awesome! I’m actually new to playing the guitar but what your suggesting i actually figured out and I’m so happy your recommending it. Nice to hear someone who knows to agree with it. I even got the same footrest that you have! Thanks again!

    I did get a foot rest but since they are adjustable every time I knocked it over I would have to readjust it. Then I realised if I put a strip of duck tape on the underneath it would keep the foot rest from leaving its position when I knocked it over.

    Hey Kelly! Great stuff! Was waiting for you to take the music off the couch also- don't want to crane neck sideways and down- ye olde music stand really works well as an adjunct to your A frame posture. Cheers pal.

    It changed my playing sitting down forever when i brought a foot stool after taking some classical guitar lessons. I can literally practice 8 hours a day- you gotta also find the right chair

      Anything at all that will raise your foot a few inches will work just fine.
      I used to rest my left foot on my RIGHT foot, until I got a proper stand! 😅

    I play bass and I switched to this a little while ago because I couldn’t play the higher frets. Originally the low notes felt way to far away but not I can’t go back to the normal seated position

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před rokem

      Yes, it definitely allows greater ease for the higher frets. Glad the transition was a fairly easy one, Aiden!

    Great video! As some one who strictly plays while seated (back issues) I cannot use this position. I'm currently using a back brace to help keep my posture as well as support the guitar. I'm much more comfortable with the guitar up higher on my chest. I also need the back rest and an arch support to assist with maintaining posture. I've tried playing standing and I cant do it for the length of a lot of songs. Do you know of any straps that are shorter in length while still providing good support? I've been looking for some sort of harness like a sax player would wear that would use both shoulders to support the weight!

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před rokem +2

      Thank you, Ben! If I recall, a company called “Neotech” offers a strap that goes over both shoulders, with an “X” style configuration on the front for extra support.
      It might be worth checking them out!

    Sore tight neck muscles are not a good thing. I have from time to time used the elevated leg position and it works better, but I have a bad habit of looking down at my fretting hand and continuously have a sore neck.

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před 10 měsíci +1

      A hard habit to break! Just try to keep your back straight, neck and head *mostly* forward….and try to use your eyes’ movement a bit more, for monitoring things….if that makes sense!

    Hello Kelly, I want to know what is the perfect guitar strings size for shredder, what do you recommend, how big is your guitar strings ? Thank you 🙏

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před rokem +2

      Hey Karen! I think most “shredders” find themselves using “9’s”, for their ease of pressing and bending. I personally use both 9’s AND 10’s depending on the guitar.
      I used to use 11’s at one point! ;)

      @@KellyKGuitar Every time I try playing with my guitar on my left leg my back hurts after 5 minutes, like I'm having to twist to my left to play

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před 10 měsíci

      @maJastoL Interesting. Well, it definitely shouldn’t feel like a twisting. Is your left leg elevated at all? Say with a footstool, like I showed in the video?

    • @maJastoL
      @maJastoL Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@KellyKGuitar I've tried with a footstool yeah. On my right leg it feels like it's where it should be, with the body on my right hand side where my picking hand is. On the left leg it just feels like everything is shifted too far to the left

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @maJastoL Oh well then, by all means keep it on the right leg! Really, it’s about what is comfortable, and allows you the access you need.
      I made the video after hearing many complaints from students about certain things that ended up being the result of their posture. Almost all of them were “right leggers”, who didn’t feel as comfortable as others do with that posture.
      In short….keep doing what you’re doing!

    I disagree you should learn to play standing up your arm get's in better position than if you want to sit down do it but if you learn to play sitting you can't stand up an play IMHO

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar  Před rokem +1

      Absolutely! If the intention is to eventually stand up to play (ie. play in a band), then definitely spend significant time standing up. Needless to say, this video is about the best seated position they could use as a “compromise” if they didn’t want to stand all the time.
