My daughter and I were the first passengers on the maiden voyage of the jitney. It was just a small van that held 8 or 10 people. It went to a ski resort in Vt. On the way north, we stopped in Conn. near a famous college, and went for pizza. Then, later on, they served us another snack and wine. When we got to Vt., they kindly dropped me and my daughter off in front of a friend's home and we spent the 3 days there with her family and then they stopped by and picked us up for the return home. It was a lovely trip. This was in the mid-70s'. I live in Tn. now and have to admit I have no yearning to return to East Hampton as the town I grew up in no longer exists. All the stores I went to are gone and all the homes I used to go to now belong to strangers that hide behind a huge tall hedge. The stores now all just cater to the rich and famous and it's a police state with cops behind every tree and post ready to pounce the minute you make the slightest infraction. Rude pushy people. I don't regret I was raised there. Wonderful memories and I don't regret leaving Bonac in 81. It was time to get out to a slower pace of life and LOW TAXES and friendly people.
Same thing happened to my hometown in Western North Carolina, I grew up in Mayberry and now it has become suburbia in the mountains, overbuilt,overpriced. I remember when we were fly over territory "who would live there, it's full of rednecks and it's unsophisticated" these same people, mostly from The Northeast and now California have flocked here...We haven't beome as bad as the Hamptons yey, but it's coming....
We've enjoyed living in the "Best Kept Secret in the Hamptons" for the past 20 years ideally located between the north and south forks. East Hampton or Orient Point a stones throw away..!!
All best places to live is where you can pay million of USD and can gate the communities. But if you aren't rich you can't buy into Communities such as the Hamptons which is the playground of the rich.
I have been living here for two and a half years and am glad to leave.east Hampton has the most Rude people I have ever seen They ride in their cars behind you really close with their brights on and you will very rarely get a Hello from any one.The resturants charge you nineteen dollars for a cheese burger and twenty six dollars for a small pot pie.The fish filets at the fish market average between twenty five to thirty dollars a pound.I guess its a good thing to show if you work in the city but as for raising your children here it will never be where they would afford to live on their own.
