Dear friend, just now I saw your comment, so I apologize.
The Celts blinded the Iberian Peninsula 2000 years ago so it is perfectly natural for the friend to feel that blood flowing through his veins. They call themselves the "northern Celts", nicknamed us "the southern Celts". We really have a lot in common and if we are going to unveil the principle of principles, think about the social organization, the cult of Mother Earth for good sowing, the bonfires of São João and why not a good beer and ... live the joy! I had a Basque grandfather who never left the typical black beret, and his father was Catalan. We just had a never ending conversation about our "peninsular affinities" ... aunts speaking Euskadi, Catalan and Portuguese ... we all got along in big houses, with big tables set for one more to arrive ...
Thank you for your comment. It is "the little big things" that make us happy.

maria teresa gomes me too, I am welsh with Cornish father and I’m married to a Scottish lassie who spent part of her childhood in Catalonia. I speak Welsh, English and Portuguese she speaks English Spanish and Catalan. There are links between all these small nations culturally but if you want to delve further there are links between all of Europe, Scandinavian folk music is similar to Shetland music which is similar to Scots/Irish music which is similar to Northumberland, galego, Asturian, cantabrian, Breton, Welsh, Cornish: which are similar to English, french etc.
There are links everywhere, it’s not just a Celtic thing.

Communal music is just in Irish veins. This is as poignant as when man first discovered fire. We first found the warmth for our bodies. We then contemplated its light's mystical wonder. And finally recreated this warmth, this wonder to lighten our souls in fellowship.

As I already said, Celts are for music as music is for Celts. It's in your DNA. They have an excellent musical ear, the joy of those who are well with themselves, play wonderfully and still dance! When they get together (excuse me for putting my beloved Sociology in the conversation) it is what I call "true social cohesion!"

Some of the best artists worldwide perform there every year (Altan, Young Dubliners, Old Blind Dogs, Dervish) and there's usually over 100K visitors. I've been every year for close to a decade and it's always a blast. Beer on tap, seven stages, tons of booths and things to check out, lasting a few days.

I was in Butte Montana and being the "unofficial Irish Capital of Montana" the town blasts Irish Reels from loudspeakers located either in the sidewalks or on the lamp posts. Daily. The town is mostly Cornish and Irish and tragically unemployed after the mines closed. I won't lie, she's a dying town. Her residents are packing up and moving to where the jobs are. But even the locals come back to see the old town as tourists. Maybe if the town council would try to get a college to move in and attract a big employer? The Irish can be a bit stubborn at times, I know, I am "Black Irish" on my mother's side!
