    Greetings from your Irish brothers in Omaha, NE. I play the Fiddle with 12-20 other Irish Musicians in a Jam Session every month at the Brazenhead Pub. Wish we could all play together somehow. Irish music is all over the world. I ate at Molly Maguire's Irish Pub in Hiroshima, Japan.

    Traditional Gaelic Music is my favorite. I love hearing it played in a pub in Switzerland. I like the music best in small settings.

    In between the Jig of Slurs and Calliope House, there is another jig played called "Over the Oceans". A 5 jig set. Sounds good.

    The Jig of Slurs was done just perfectly; the only complaint is that Glen Rinnes didn't accompany it. And that's a very small complaint. Fantastic work.

    Jig o slurs was Queen Victoria,s favourite dance when she was in Balmoral. After her death in 1901, her piper , by then Pipe Major Mclennan (,a Scot) composed the tune in her honour. It was of course written for the great highland bagpipe in D. Good to hear this music - it s what I play on the accordion. Rgds to you all from Frank in Bristol.

      One of the most popular reels in Ireland is "The Bucks of Oranmore". I now believe that it is in fact "The Bucks of Aranmore" and is native to that Scottish island. I live not far from Oranmore and I don't think a native thereof ever wrote a tune. Alban agus Éire Abù!

    Lovely, and great to see traditional music played far and wide. Loved hearing irish tenor banjo here, too. Only thing i wondered is if there was a snare drum or similar being played as i found that particular sound a bit distracting and incongruent.

    • @tim7589
      @tim7589 Před 3 měsíci

      Yep there’s a drummer there. He deliberately raised the tempo at the start, kept the musicians playing tight and made the set as exciting as it is! The snare drum IS used in traditional Irish Music, particularly in ceili bands, but it’s also sometimes used in larger sessions as seen here.
