Thanks for the laugh - you've just recreated most of my 'exciting' walks in a single vid. The number of times I've got lost in the hills trying to follow a trail app, and ended up cursing whoever put up the route :-D They key is to always have another means to navigate - map, compass etc. So far I've always made it back to the car - but it has sometimes entailed sliding down a cliff / climbing barbed wire fences / thrashing through the undergrowth / falling thigh deep in a bog, and one one memorable occasion following some railway tracks just to escape back to civilisation.. You have my sympathy!!
The golden rule I've made for myself is, if there's ANY sort of path, track or trail, follow that and ignore the official route. Oh and leave a scathing review to make yourself feel better afterwards :-D
I went on a hike once years ago with my daughter that ended up the way yours did. Its a very scary feeling to be in the middle of a forest , not knowing where you should be going and in which direction you should walk. I can see how people get lost for days in places like that. Glad you got out- be careful Adam

OMD!! You are practically the male version of me!!! This is why I still haven't been out on a wildcamp hike!! You need to get a map and compass and some map reading skills as do I!! Hehehe I've been in that situation a few times.. Up to the knee in stinking squelch 😂..its like a surprise baptism of the legs. There's punk hiking - being out in feel good but inadequate clothing, wandering aimlessly, but not giving any fooks at all. Then there's stomp hiking - Fast paced, angry, muttering under your breath until all tension subsides. Then there's what you just did.. Sludge & slurry hiking whilst offering up all exposed body parts as midge buffet. FEELINNNN' ALIIIIIVE 🤣

Mate, that was intense! I instantly though about getting stranded there, and then the Blair Witch Project sprang to mind! Tip: Incense to get rid of the midgies/gnats/mozzies. A couple of sticks burning in the car/tent/etc and they'll all leave. It'll also help with the smell of sh!t!! Haha!

The southwest moors are my favorite places, i know the roads well - best to stick to 2nd gear and 20mph on the tiny lanes: saves vehicle damage,stress, and your more prepared for the local 90mph SUV's. Loving your videos mate, can't wait for more!

Great video mate, have got into that predicament a few times due to trying to take a short cut, that was the days when there were no GPS, as you said it can be scary especially when the light is dropping but you done well getting back through it all - take care,happy tracking on your next adventure

I think I would of freaked out being lost in the middle of a forest. The lesson I have learnt from this episode is dont assume every trail is passable or overgrown or closedoff (diversion my arse 😂. Im slowly getting through all the videos mate. Im deffo gonna give dartmoor ago this year in my converted ford Galaxy. Who needs a 20k campervan eh 😊
Great video wow those lanes are crazy not a single passing place i was tense just watching. When you came out of the forrest those views where amazing you was certainly in the middle of know where just very sketchy especially on that so called trail just glad you got back safe.

Great area Fernworthy forest, was there a couple of years ago and camped in my horse lorry, the drive up there was hairy though, my wing mirrors were in the hedge at parts, I was glad I didn't meet anyone coming the other way
Hi Adam. I have gone in my self converted van and bought a second home too Yorkshire Dales area and gone off grid and not told anyone about my new place.They seem to get peeved!! .Yes I also feel a bit guilty not checking in. But it's a great experience.
I do have RAC and MEDICAL INSURANCE but what they don't know can't peeve them . Lol 😂😂

It's like being swallowed up by the swamp monster! 🙄 however I see you went the most awkward route ....in style u know !! to sittaford tor and to the Grey Wethers standing stones! If you carried on...avoiding the bogs you would of eventually ended up by sandy hole pass and east Dart waterfall. ... note there is such an easier route than that! Through the forest by the resiviour, did you get to walk to the resiviour its beautiful and the other side is Kestor rocks and all the druid standing stones?
Hiking poles come in handy when walking in boggy areas ... acts as pogo sticks! 🤣
Next time I see a stone circle in honour of your initiation I will stand on one leg ... let one 💨rip💨 and have a one lass rave up 🤟 with as many squeaky gates as I can find , haaaaaaa!

Those little lanes are great on horseback or a bike, but I avoid them in the car. There are plenty of areas of Dartmoor where they're the only road option.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLLLEEAASE get yourself a high capacity (around 25000mAh) POCKET-sized power bank, and NEVER go hiking without it AND your phone charging cord- then you won’t ever again have to worry about your phone dying and leaving you mapless, lightless, and lost in the dark 😉 The only thing that kept me from sheer terror while you were discovering the many ways that path was NOT a path, was the fact that I was seeing the video- which meant that you had gotten back to civilization safely and uploaded it!! I got a bit lost in the woods a few weeks ago and I was starting to panic a bit because the light was fading, my phone battery was dying and Google maps was useless. Now, when I park the car, I use What Three Words to save the location. The What Three Words compass will then get you back to where you need to be with a minimum of fuss.
