I like how "I'm sorry, Jon" became the arc words of this season. First Chad joking about how he'll say it to Jon while dying, then Chad's ghost doing just that, then PBG saying it to him after Lucah died, and now Jirard saying it to him when he was about to die

Here’s to a break that’ll either last 3 months or 3 years. No matter what, I’ll be excited for what’s in store next
Sadly, this is probably the end. The final season ever. There’s nothing left. They have probably failed for the last time However, if they DO come back for a 9th season, and if they want to stand even the slightest chance of ever leaving the nether alive, they should probably bring back McJones. No one in the history of PBG’s HC series can compare, not even Shane. MC#9 will be futile without him. Period. He probably knows all about the new nether and it’s biomes. They will need him. In fact, the last HC, MC#7, was in 1.13, which was the Aquatic update. Things have changed A LOT since then. Village and Pillage, Buzzy Bees, The New Nether. MC#7 was before ALL of these. And it’s the nether update that doomed MC#8.

Poor peebs, he was doing great, I could feel even though as uncertain as he was, you could tell there was some sense of leadership. He really was trying he's best. Great job Peebs.

I will still stand by the idea that jirard is one of the best hardcore players in the whole series, up until this season he never actually died, in MC1 he just went afk, and he actually won in Diablo 2, and Starbound, and in this season he was the last one alive, Jirard really has a really good track record despite being the first "death" in hardcore history
I disagree. He really didn't know what he was doing this series like everyone else and just got lucky with being the last one to die to me. That and for half of the series he didn't understand the 1.9 combat mechanics making him frankly no better than punching during combat. No wonder he almost died at the lake of the second nether portal.

yeah before this jirard technically never even died in mc1, so statistically he had one of the best records.
and even not counting mc1 wins in both diablo and starbound are impressive.

This is so sad and super unexpected. Jirard, AKA The Completionist, was the first person in the entire hardcore series to die in the very first season, and now, he is the last one to die.
First and last death in the entire series. It’s all over now. They’re not coming back.
I really hope next season brings back the regulars.

@@McBreezyCTF unfortunately Mcjones retired from HC's. He went into season 6 of Minecraft knowing it was his last one.
I do hope that now that they've had a NB-centric cast, we can get guests/regulars returning as well. I miss the old cast's manic energy with Jeff and Dean which this crew kind of had with Chad but lost again with his death.

Honestly the second Austin died it was a lost cause. Jon and Jirard just had no chance. I still can’t believe that they went in there with 5 people and everyone just went out so quickly.
It realistically was over after Shane seeing how Austin was lagging. I do feel bad saying that but even for more experienced Minecraft players (like Shane really) a Hardcore game is not easy
Actually, the mission was already lost the moment they set foot into the Bastion. They never had the slightest chance against the Piglin Brutes. It was the nether update as a whole that doomed this season.
for something that lasted for so long, it is sad to see it silently die. RIP Hardcore.

It's sad that after the epicness of Seasons 1 & 5, the lighthearted humor of Seasons 3 & 4, and the somberness and terror of Seasons 2, 7, & the MineZ ones, the final season would be one that ended so anticlimactically, with barely any progress made in the long run and little to no hope that they would've ever gotten to the end

Technically the first time Jirard has died in a Hardcore, despite being in 4 seasons.
I mean _technically_ not the first time he died. If you want to be technical it’s the first time he died while controlling his character.
Yeah he did *technically* die to afk. As the 1st season states "Death by AFK."

@@foxyapproves8881 He had to leave, it was his birthday the day they were recording. So he went AFK and then I think they killed his character so they could sleep (but my memory on that is a touch hazy, it's been a little bit)

I got flashbacks to barry being stuck in the nether at the end. It was a very good season and I can't wait for the next season! Maybe next time we can get Jeff back as a guest.
Coincidentally, in both of those seasons, the group found only one of the thing they were looking for (Wither skulls in 2, Blaze rods here)
This season ended pretty much the same way Season 2 and 3 did, funnily enough.
Oh yeah also, it helps that the music that plays after Jon dies is the same music that played at the beginning of Barry's Sanity Slippage Episode
We NEED Jeff back, he has survivability!!! Not only that, but he still has to redeem himself for losing to the dragon twice.
Gosh, what a heart wrenching episode. The nether portion of this season was probably one of the most stressful and emotional in HC history. It's moments like this that make me really happy that the series is back in full force!

Crazy how the man who didn't believe in himself, saying he was the weakest player, lived the longest with the basics he learned from his time.
Also, it was mostly thanks to his greater cautiousness, which was due to his lack of self-confidence

Their nether spawn was terrible, if they didnt spawn in the basalt deltas, they likely would still have Lucah, if the bastion weren't so close to them Shane would likely still be alive, and their game would not have ended in the fortress. Sad it ended here, but im interested to see what game is next!
Okay, sure but let’s not blame Shane dying in the Bastion on the game. That was completely on them, they just didn’t have to go there.

I think this season should serve as a cautionary for them on what to watch out for in the new nether. They're gonna be relearning a lot of things before they get back on track like before.
Man, that Zero Escape music when Jirard is all on his own just hits different. Props to Todd and his plethora of Spikesoft OST for moments like these 👌

PBG's death was one of the most brutal things I've seen in minecraft. first he notices a hole from the inside, and blocks it off, then on the outside, he gets ambushed from above by a Wither Skeleton, lit on fire by a blaze, and falls in the same hole he ried to protect himself from.
just... brutal....

Man, what a way to go, getting burned, Withered, AND falling down a hole. Poor Peebs...
Also, this ending was very reminiscent of Season 3, where after PBG died at least partly by fire, the final 2 were both guests, who then both got killed in quick succession by Wither Skeletons. The penultimate death was someone with a dry sense of humor, and the final survivor was someone with a big beard!
And now that I think about it, the other deaths were like Season 3 too: 1st death was an inexperienced member who died by a Creeper; 2nd death was a loud, silly guy who got killed by a sneak attack; 3rd death was the one who was always looking out for everyone who got cornered by enemies; 4th death was the most knowledgeable of the group who got killed by something they *weren't* familiar with; and I already mentioned the last 3
(Also, coincidentally, this one and season 3 are the only 2 seasons in the series where the last survivor was a special guest!)

After a two year hiatus, it's absolutely a joy to have this series back, and I've loved tuning in for every episode for the last few weeks. What a great time it's been. While I was sad that regulars Jeff, Dean, and Barry weren't present for this season, I still loved the crew for this one and they all played well together. I really can't wait for the next season of Hardcore, no matter what it is. Though I'm still hoping for another Minecraft season, since I feel like it makes the most interesting seasons for the show. Whether that's an actual Season 8 or a NB Season 2, I'm really excited for whatever's next.
(Just please have Jeff on the show, I really miss him)

I specified in case they changed the label so that NB Season 2 would be specifically NB members, whereas MCHC Season 8 would be the return of regulars like Jeff, Dean, and Barry with a handful of guests again. I dunno if they did it like that, but either way I'm looking forward to more HC.

Well every intro isn't the same since there are death portraits and the intro is short and since episodes are spaced out throughout the week it doesn't feel repetitive

Upon retrospect, I feel like this season was pretty hollow. It doesn't feel like anyone had any passion for this season. It also doesn't help that nobody on this cast knew anything about the new update besides Chad. Not to mention all the Jirard stuff makes this season and its ending feel pretty grimey. I hope this isn't the endong for hardcore, cause this feels like a pretty shit final page.
While most of what you say is true, I will argue that part of the charm of Hardcore is it's a group of friends where most usually don't play the game they're playing, so for a lot of them they're inexperienced, and I think that's a lot of fun to watch because it allows for more exciting gameplay and stupid, almost facepalming moments that most people who actively play Minecraft today wouldn't make, but I like the charm of a great group of friends with strong chemistry not *really* knowing what's going on, but still having fun doing it.

Their RNG was awful in the Nether, all of their spawn points were terrible. I'm honestly surprised they didn't die sooner just because of where they ended up

That transition from the Nether to the overworld base was really smooth. Nice editing. Also it was so fitting to see that they were still being haunted by Phantoms even after the end, lol.

I like that Jirard was the last one to die. In the very first Minecraft Hardcore, Jirard was the first to die via AFK. Now, he was the last person to die. That’s character growth right here.

It’s almost painfully ironic how Jirard ended up this season. He wanted to break his record of being the first to die from Season 1 of the HC on the PBG Gameplay channel, and when Amber died, he even joked about how he was glad he wasn’t the first to die this time.
And then, in a weird twist of fate, he ended up being the only one NOT to die for a while. And while it was great for him for a while, in the end, he ended up stranded and alone, almost like a fate worse than death. Like some messed up “Be careful what you wish for” story.
It’s a pretty dark way of looking at this season, but it’s kinda funny how it worked out this way. Fate played a cruel trick on Jirard, lol.
In all seriousness though, it’s disappointing to see it had to get cut short like this, but this was such a fun, nerve-wracking season to watch. Everyone did great, and Jirard especially made quite the comeback from season 1!
Edit: and random thing I wanted to point out, but I loved Todd’s nearly seemless transition from the Nether to the Overworld in that final shot, lol

Yep. This is actually the first Hardcore series I've watched. This season is amazing so maybe I need to check out the others..... (Also, YES! That transition was perfect. Made Jirard's death and the end of this season seem all the more dramatic and it was great way to end it all off.)

Well, rip everyone. I was really hoping for Peebs to make it to the end for the first time in ages, but I guess not. Also, rip everyone. This was a really chaotic and fun season and I'll miss this while it's gone.

Well... Jirard made a pretty good comeback there. Last man standing, in a team of 7. Not terrible. Especially for the guy who got a lot of crap for getting AFKilled that first time.
PS: As I did in a prior episode, I will recommend that the lot of you practice a bit more, so you know what to do, what not to do a bit better. I'm just glad none of you hung out in that red nether forest. You all would have been eliminated, whole-sale, by the hoglins (wild boars). I can't wait til the next season. Hopefully it won't be so long a time coming next time. lol
The bitter endings of seasons like this are a part of the charm of hardcore. The few minutes spent with Jirard and Jon as a duo was wonderful.
Super wholesome seeing them try to plan out what to do while also knowing that they're about to die. Then Jon leaves and Jirard is left all alone, super sad but a great way to end off the season.

Either way, I’m so glad this series is back. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about how this season was “too slow” or that everyone was “too inexperienced”, but honestly, that’s the fun of hardcore. To pretend people haven’t died early in incredibly stupid ways in previous seasons would be ridiculous, so I don’t understand why so many people had a problem with it this time round. Seeing everyone interact with the new nether and how much the game has changed made this a really suspenseful season, and while I’ll have to say season 5 is still my personal favorite, this one is definitely up there.
One year later and we're hyped up about the next season of Hardcore! (To all of those who don't get the joke/reference/never heard about CyberShell, there was no announcement of a new hardcore series, this was just a CZcams/CyberShell sort of way of saying: "YO DUDES! WHEN'S THE NEXT SEASON OF HARDCORE COMING OUT!?) It also looks like they did pull a CyberShell on us, didn't they!? They're 1 month late! What's keeping them!?

Looking back at all the previous seasons, it's pretty clear what made Hardcore so great in the first place. It wasn't the goal, the editing, or the guests, they're great but it's not what makes a good season. The connection between the cast and their shared passion toward the show itself was always the strength of Hardcore. That's what makes the older seasons so special, It was a group of friends having fun as opposed to a group of creators doing business. The authenticity is missing, the passion is gone. I hate to say it, but you can hear it in PBG's performance. It's not the same anymore. I suspect this is why Mcjones left, and Dean's absence is like the nail in the coffin. If Hardcore were to ever come back, this would be the quintessential thing to get right. PBG should only bring it back if he truly actually wants it to come back. I'll be eagerly anticipating a new season should he decide to do that.
I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. From a group of friends, plus one or two guests, just messing around and having fun with somewhat high stakes to only PBG with guests new and old. While I did enjoy this season and do like the other players (and watch/have watched most of them and their stuff), they just don't have the same chemistry as the old gang.
Just another victim, in lack of a better word, of times and people (both them and us) moving on I suppose.
Still, there's always hope they'll do a get together, or a last hurrah.
Until then, we'll always have Paris (or, you know, the old hardcores) :)
@Razardos The crazy part about this is that everyone here is what Normal Boots is now. Aside from Lucah. It's no wonder the Normal Boots channel didn't stick around, the new crew just doesn't have the chemistry the old crew did.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. About half of this seasons deaths were extremely, extremely preventable. That said, I loved the player dynamics though, and really hope to see this season's faces return for future seasons.

Tragic end, but still fun season. Mostly the nether section though.
Perhaps this will be remembered as a good warm-up season.

What a ride... I put off watching this for some time and now binged it all in one night. Adored it start to finish, I'm SO pumped for the next season! Everyone did their best and put on a fantastic show as always. So happy Hardcore is continuing

I hope the next hardcore will be one where others will have more knowledge and feel more confident. Like how you guys did a Diablo, Terrtaria and the one space game.

Jirard really redeemed himself and better come back. Also, the, low key, story of the season for me was how Austin really buckled down and demonstrated the leadership we’ve always wanted from him. This was a fun watch.

I really wish I caught this season live. But I'm glad I got to see it now. I had no idea it existed, so I thought the Hardcore series was still on a break, for like almost 4 years... It's a shame to see there still hasn't been another after this. I hope to see Terraria season 4, with Journey's End content. And I hope to see Jeff, Barry, Jared, and Dean again. It'll be sad without McJones, but I guess we have to live with that.
That cut at the end transitioning from the Nether to the Overworld was so clean. If I didn't know better, I'd think the Overworld was sitting directly on top of the Nether.
The title alone is stress inducing.

@@billjohns5943 Given how it ended, and even how it started (this episode), yeah I would say the stress was high the whole time. As a viewer it was stressful watching them go one by one, and I am sure that with each death the stress just skyrocketed for the team. Especially for Jirard. But that's what makes Hardcore so great! We get invested in the journey and feel the stress of the hard moments. Really looking forward to more Hardcore in the future!
@@Zekron88 Yeah, the episode was really well done with the editing. Todd makes this series so good. Really disappointed it ended this way but it was super memorable. And in my opinion it's a less disappointing end then Jeff getting to the Enderdragon solo just to die. This is now their fourth fail for the updated Enderdragon, right?
@@billjohns5943 Todd always does a great job with the editing. If you count season 5 where the goal was to get the Elytra, then this would be the 3rd failure for the Enderdragon, I'm pretty sure.

And so another season closes out. A nice little return to form, but still a bit of a rocky start.
Don't get me wrong, I really like this series, and of course I was pretty excited to see it come back after so long, but with such a large gap between seasons this latest one really highlights some of the issues I feel recent hardcore suffers from. The main thing is simply that no one has any clue what they're doing. I get that there's interest in people new to the game or to the game's newer mechanics having to figure stuff out, but I don't think that works very well in a show where you only get one life to do that. It used to be fine because it was fairly balanced between people who were clueless, people who were just gone for awhile and needed to relearn some stuff, and people who were pretty up to date on how the game's progression and mechanics worked. But when nobody really knows anything, it's just a recipe for disaster, and not the fun kind.
We can even see this with the editor's snarky comments towards the group that he makes frequently. It was funny, and brought back some of the laughs that were missing for me in previous seasons, but again highlights the problem of nobody knowing anything and being too afraid to really make any moves. Sure it's reasonable for everyone to want to play safe, but as we can see that never really works out either and starts to become just a bit grating.
I think a pretty easy fix for this would be to just have the cast for the next season run through a quick crash test world or two a little while before starting the season. Nothing major, nothing to take away a lot of the discovery for the newer players, just a quick run through to become familiar enough with how the game works and maybe what generally needs to be done progression wise. There'd probably need to be a separate crash test just for stuff like the nether since the rules tied to it have gotten so complex now (not even Shane, arguably the most knowledgeable of this group, knew what a Bastion was and why they shouldn't have ever gone there).
All n' all I still enjoyed watching this one, but I feel like there needs to be more preparation in the future to at least ensure fusterclucks like everything involving the nether don't happen as often.
I think it might be worth having everyone at the beginning be given some sort of guide to what needs to be done to complete a particular Hardcore season.
If only one person knows, and that person dies then the group is kind of left with no direction.
Something that at least spells out the things that they need to do so everybody is aware at least of the direction they need to go would probably help out.
Jirard would almost certainly not have been able to make it out of the nether on his own just given his experience, but if he knew what all he needed to collect, it may have guided his decisions in a more interesting way than all of us just assuming he would walk around until he died.
Just a thought.

It's so interesting to me how this season started with so much unintentional foreshadowing of the ending. Jirard's first lines mention his failure in his last MC Hardcore and he's constantly talking about redemption. We also got PBG telling the story of Barry during the sleepover, foreshadowing the eventual fate of the group: All dying in the Nether, with Jirard as the last man standing

So proud of my guy Jirard, man. From the first ever "death" in hardcore, to the last one to die at the end of it all. He truly redeemed himself from season 1.

There once was an ugly wither skeleton. He was so ugly that everyone died. The end.
SPOILERS:
If they didn’t find the bastion, chances are they would’ve made it out of the nether with at least 3 people. I stand by my opinion when I say that Shane could’ve only been killed by something he was unaware of. If he knew what the bastion was he would’ve said, “no way we’re going in there unless we wanna die”. But as we know, they went in and lost the best player of the season. It only went downhill from there. Having Austin as the most experienced of the 3 was a telltale sign they were doomed. (No offence peebs) He’s actually quite capable of succeeding in HC, but he’s risky, risky to a fault. The adventurer in him just wants to speed through the challenges. That led to his death. I figured this would be the finale once Austin died. Jon and Jirard are both respectable players, but they didn’t know enough about the game.
That was my opinion on this episode, but now here’s my opinion on the cast:
Pelvic: I enjoyed the few episodes she was in. She’s very funny and I can’t wait to see more of her in the HC future. I was upset to see her go so early, but it was expected. She really didn’t know anything about Minecraft. She was the “Dean” of the season.
Chad: I was shocked to see Chad die as early as he did. I mean he did win his first season ever. I guess it’s fitting that the season he won, they didn’t need to kill endermen. It was a shame he died second, but that’s what happens when you let your guard down to those annoying teleporters.
Lucah: I was baffled to see her die, especially to a magma cube. She was the 2nd best this season. I would’ve bet that she would at least make it to the finale, but she let down her guard much like Chad. Maybe if her and Austin used more teamwork, she could’ve survived, but sadly she fell much earlier than expected.
Shane: Shane Shane Shane, if only you knew what the bastion was. Like I said above, the only way he could’ve died was to something he didn’t know. He was the favourite to win, no doubt. I’m sure everyone else agreed. I hope we see more of him in later HCs. He could definitely solidify himself as one of the better HC players in history if he gets a few wins under his belt.
Peebs: It was quite refreshing to see Austin take the leadership role once Shane died. He definitely proved himself this season. He might’ve had the worst death we’ve seen in Minecraft so far. First, he would’ve died to the wither skeleton, but he also caught fire, which also would’ve killed him, then to top it off. He fell down a pit. The only other death that might be worse is Jared in MC season 3. Nonetheless, I really hope Austin can get another win, sooner than later
Jon: Jon has had an interesting HC career. He was a great player in Terraria 2. Then unfortunately he died 1st in Terraria 3. This season I expected something similar. But like some others, he proved himself. Despite not knowing the game as much. He really needs a win, and I’ll root for him in any season he’s in going forward,
Jirard: Jirard is such a dark horse in my opinion. This is the first time he’s technically died in HC. But let’s be real here. There’s no way he could’ve soloed this. Don’t get me wrong, he’s amazing at video games. But this seems to be the only game he doesn’t really know. Maybe he can do some Minecrafting in his downtime for next season. It would be cool to see him win 3 different times in 3 different games.
This was such a good season, even with a disappointing ending. I’m so glad HC is back and I’d like to thank Tod and Normal Boots for reviving a favourite series of mine. I’m stoked for what’s in store. :))
I definitely believe the only thing that really held Jirard back was his lack of knowledge. But everything else especially that legendary luck he apparently has was on point. He'd be a beast if he came back for another round with info under his belt lol
