- Somewhere between geebing out to Matt's CZcams videos and watching Troy Wright absolutely slay his "Polyrhythmic Movements Over a Groove" video ( • Polyrhythmic Movements... ) I came up with this vid.
I hope your not totally sick of single paradiddles yet cause I keep finding crazy ways I CAN'T play them :)
So these are the three videos you have to be able to play through for this one to make sense:
#1: Displaced Single Paradiddle Challenge
• The Displaced Single P...
#2: Modulating Single Paradiddles
• Modulating Single Para...
#3: The "Thomas Pridgen" Paradiddle Groove Challenge Part-1
• Video

Take this stuff slow and build it up one bar at a time. Through repetition you lose the guesswork and you can just focus on the groove and all the layers working together to create a massive morphing triplet train heading straight to planet zontar! Once you start getting it together, grab the guitar loop and start challenging yourself to play this thing along with some music!
Leave me comments here and on Facebook!! I want to hear what crazy ideas you have to take this stuff to the next level and ways I can improve in any way! Thanks for checkin it!

I'm not even a drummer but this video was still awesome.
Thanks man! Glad you dig it!
I'm not ready for this yet.
Before starting this exercise, you must be able to fluently speak English, French, German, Italian, Thai, and Khoisan click language, have a PHD in physics, one in chemistry, and a humanities subject of your choice, be confident in the design and manufacture of astronomical radio interferometry telescopes and have visited at least 2 other planets, and their moons.
Ok?
Lets begin.
hahahaha
7 years later and this video is still helping drummers out man! Awesome lesson!
Thanks man!!
God bless! I've recently started a polymetric Djent/Jazz/fusion band and your stellar challenge has improved our songwriting tremendously in the triplet-category And the fact that you ain't charging dough makes you a Saint on earth.Your'e an incredible player and drum teacher. I'm looking forward for more challenges in the future. Peace! n Greetings from Stockholm, Sweden:)
Woah man thank you for taking the time to write me bro!! Don't worry my next vids gunna cost you big time :D hope to check out Sweden one day soon!! thanks again dude!
Wow, whait a minute...this...i mean....this is...like...best drumming video ever? amazing video, and the fact that you uploaded the pdf and guitar loop is making it as special as you can get. Thanks a lot for this. And people disliking this aren't really people, they are just monkeys with a knife.
LOL !
Dude! I'm nailing this in one go at 60bpm now, tomorrow i'm gonna blast it at 70bpm for a few hours. it took me a good month to get from your very first paradiddle vid to this one (bit of a break over xmas) but I got there! What a great challenge / bunch of challenges! Really levelled me up, I can already feel it creeping into my playing naturally. It's basically gonna be my warm up routine ! Thank you! I rememeber a couple years back thinking "how are Pridgen and Garstka doing this kinda thing so naturally and fluenly!?"....THIS right here is one of the blueprints and I shall be teaching it to my advanced students. One up! Leveled up! Word up!
Wow it's cool how something so complex sounding turns out to be (in my eyes) pretty simple once you see it notated out, and realize what's actually going on.
+Trevor Laporte Exactly!
love the way you direct this video. crystal clear about what you want to convey!
Amazing how the guitar loop stays the same but the entire emotion of the "song" changes as soon as you start cycling through the paradidles
Totally! It's crazy how different accents can change the vibe so drastically! Thanks for watching man :)
bro this is the first vid of yours I've watched and I love everything about this!!! Fantastic job! Now to watch everything else...
I love how positive you are and how accessible you made this video :) this is such a cool exercise, I can’t wait to practice this groove on my kit
My brain broke trying to even imagine myself attempting this. Guess I have a lot of homework to do.
Greyson Wagner right, probably easier to just burn my drums and forget I ever played
hahah if you do it in the right steps its way easier than it sounds I promise!!
Dont do it Andrew!!
I believe you! I need to take time to sit and just do it. Thanks for the reply! One day I'll send a video of me attempting it to you. ;)
Look forward to it!! :D
Absolutely killer, you sir won a subscriber
This is amazing. You clearly put a lot of time and effort into this, I hope your channel continues to grow, more people should see your playing!
Glad I found you in my recommended channels. Not a full time drummer or anything, but I've been watching a lot of general music videos like these. I immediately found your style of talking and making the video super endearing. Cheers!
I dont even drum and these videos are awesome, great work Carson. Keep up the solid work and this channel will explode!!!
Oh my gosh dude, you are solid. Glad I came here from Instagram to your full length vids on CZcams.
Thank you so much for checking it out Ben!! Appreciate that man!!
One-Up Drum Vids - Much welcome!
Damn, i can't not focus on how perfectly in tune that snare is. lol
Dude, just WTF? This is awesome. You took some simple things and when all of them are together, the Matt Myth Garstka feeling is unquestionable. It kinda looks like kascade. But i'm amazed by how slowly-effectively you approached that, making it simple but when we listen to AAL it all seems so impossible. Subscribed! Congratulations from Brazil, looking forward to more videos!
That was sick, congratulations man well done. Keep rocking.
Cheers from Brazil
I can't even walk and chew gum at the same time.
I doubt that :P
nice suite life reference
Ahhh dang!! So sick dawg!! Stepping it up in all ways always
Hey Carson!
Normally a lurker but your positivity behind the camera topped off with amazing vids have made me come of the shadows to say top job man! Looking forward to any and all future content from you. Currently working up to this challenge and part of my motivation is just how incredible this sounds. Lots of good vibes sent from the UK to you!
This is sick. You are a sick man.

6 yrs later and I still haven't been able to play this.... So sad
Hahahaha same
Fantastic production and content. Thanks!
Dude! This is killer! Just viewed this for the first time today so I'll definitely be practicing
This explains why I can never figure out where Matts snare hits fall haha. It's cool to listen to how the different cymbal grooves highlight different parts of the guitar riff.
Yeh man totally!! I never thought about that stuff before I made this to be totally honest! Not in the way that by doing all these variations really highlights!
I don't even play the drums but your enthusiasm and excitement made me subscribe. Keep it up, love the bids and as a guitarist it's always interesting to see how drums work :)
Guitar players subbing to drum channels?! Whats the world coming to?! haha thank you so much man!!
Seriously excellent work man! This exercise is neat because it really grooves hard regardless of the RH-pulse that you're executing. Sick!
Your lesson videos are awesome man. Thanks for putting the time in to create them and share your gift! Looking forward to the next one!
+Ben Fondon Thanks Ben! I got more to come!
this should have more views...killer playing, killer exercise!

That was absolutely sick. I can't wait to see if Matt takes your challenge, or anyone for that matter!

dude thank you. This is such a good exercise, and you provided the pdf and audio to work on this.
Hey Carson, the Thomas Pridgen challenge video is no longer available. I just came across your channel some time back and your videos have helped me a ton. I remember that watching that very video not too long ago and wanted to revisit while actually sitting behind the kit. :(
Wonder what happened!
Yes, can you please upload it again, or let us know where we can get it? Thank you! These videos are amazing!
Sorry about that. Had to take those down
Why does your voice sound exactly like Matt's?
I don't know guys, its just how my parents made me :(
Definitely one of the most useful lesson videos I've watched. Very succinct and easily understood. I paused this to watch the Displaced Single Paradiddle Challenge and hit the subscribe button after watching it. Then came back to this and was blown away at the simple complexity behind the idea. Keep up the good work!!
+theyhavepeabrains Thank you so much man!!
Thank you so much for this! Saw Animals As Leaders live and was blown away! You've given me the next learning journey. Much love, gratitude and respect! 😀

Does Mr. White know you're not cooking?
I thought about this and can't figure out the reference. Are you saying I look like Jesse from Breaking Bad?!
Awesome video .. and dude ... you sound like Matt (voice) .. lol
Thanks for watching man!! Yeah I've got that a few times now :P

Bro! We need more videos! I know the content you’ve already uploaded is enough for me to practice for a lifetime, but I enjoy watching your enthusiasm and energy! Cheers!
My bad, I thought so but I wasn’t already subscribed to your channel and I see you have posted newer videos since the Matt Gartska video which I saw last! Cheers again! 😋
Hey Ben! Thanks for digging the content! There will be more I promise!

+Trent Galvis Sick dude look forwards to the link!!
Love the art work btw!
Thanks so much man! It really helped when you broke down the grove between the right foot and left hand, it allowed me to really get my head around the different elements in this beefy groove.
+Sn0wBlaze Awesome to hear that man!! Thank you!!
Thank you for this. Love prog drumming and could groove but could never get into the rudimental side of it. Your videos are very helpful, keep it up!
hardest part of this groove is the left foot hahaha
I know its true!! the quietist most unassuming part is the wrench in the gears :P
