- Dunvant Male Choir were proud to be asked to sing Calon Lan with Bryn Terfel at the restored Mynyddbach chapel for an S4C program Gwlad Y Gan which was transmitted on 23 July 2016.
Thanks to Gorilla TV for their help. - Hudba
He’s the world’s greatest bass baritone and he loves his Welsh heritage and boy,can he sing.
A Welshman here! A wonderful bass a lovely choir and an empty chapel...how my heart breaks! Lord have mercy.
Nothing like the boys from the valleys when they raise their voices
I absolutely hated singing all these welsh songs in school, felt like I was forced too. Now a decade later, its very comforting to hear it, i wish i wasn't so stubborn when i was younger.
Your parents clearly wanted you to be influenced by Welsh language and Welsh song, you clearly have had very good parents indeed...I was stubborn too but I am so grateful now for my parents' gentle guidance......
Melts your soul, I wished I noticed of Welsh in school ❤
That's really beautiful. The Welsh tradition of choral singing breeds fabulous male singers. And the piece is lovely.

I had the great privilege of meeting Sir Bryn last year.
A very kind gentleman, wonderful voice and a splendid choir. Thank you.🎼
Wonderful , I am Australian, but I so love the Welsh singing, particularly their language. The chapel is beautiful, in a backdrop of history.
Sorry to take so long to reply and thank you for your comments. If you are ever in UK be sure to look us up or check us out on facebook.com/dunvantchoir/
I am also now Australian, but I spent the first 6 years of my life in Swansea. When and if this Coronavirus crisis ends, I may again get to visit the land of my ancestors. I will then do my best to see both the Dunvant and Morriston choirs live.
Mate, we love Austria..... Lol xxxxxxxx. Lol
Loadsa love to you. Always welcome. Xxxxxxxx
@@allenjenkins7947 Good luck, mate. Hope your dream comes true, now that most people have been vaccinated. (or at least here in Europe!)
Absolutely gorgeous music and singing. And just look at all the beaming faces. They are one team and Bryn is part of them!
Love that Bryn looks up approvingly at the choir acknowledging their talent.

The choir is so lucky to have a friend in Sir Bryn Terfel.
He has the reputation of being a generous artist, not conceited at all.
Beautiful. So proud to be welsh
I miss my welsh family, my grandfather and great aunties, being with them and their love, learning some welsh and singing with them, was a great joy. My mother would also sing in welsh. I love this language.
Me too- my Great Aunt taught me this when I was young, and I grew up in a house with Welsh grandparents and mother (father was a Geordie). Someone was always singing- music hall favourites, folk songs, Ivor Novello's greatest hits, hymns (AND arias!) often in Welsh.

Where are you living now Robyyn??
The most beautiful thing I have seen or heard in ages, and on CZcams maybe ever. Not quite as polished but even more heartfelt than Bryn Terfel's gorgeous album version with full musical backing. I could weep and have, a tad.
The choir is so lucky to have a friend in Sir Bryn Terfel.
This version brings tears to my eyes
Stupenda questa musica soprattutto il canto. La ascolto spesso. Certamente non dirò a nessuno cosa significa perché non capisco niente di ciò che si canta . In ogni modo prende il cuore. Grazie
Beautiful. My Mams favorite Welsh song. Love it. R.I.P. my Beautiful little Mammy till we meet again at Jesus feet in a better Land where there ill be no more parting. No more tears of sadness only Joy . XXXXX
there should be such music all days. it reaches the heart , give love in return, and so there will be no war or quarrell no more!!!

Alas, there is once again war in Europe :-((( We never seem to learn from past horrors, do we? After each war we say 'never again' but since WWII there have been at least two wars with the attendant atrocities: Bosnia and now Ukraine.
What is so lovely, is Bryn and the Boys. He is like an 'overgrown' choir boy, don't get me wrong here but look how He looks up to them.Da Bryn di awn Boy Hwyl, Canu Da de!
Mr Terfel has such a gift!
He is now 'Sir Bryn' 🙂
Che splendore ! Quanta gioia esprime questo canto grazie al suo interprete ! Grazie
What a song "Pure Heart"
Wonderful arrangement and vocalists.
Beautiful simply wonderful. Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Granddad Dai
And to my eyes, too :-)
Cymru am beth! May the cleanhearted live forever!
What wonderful singing.I attended a chapel in England of that same style and this took me back to my childhood of wonderful singing and Sunday School Anniversaries.
A beautfifu sung by a great welsh choir
Best in the world
Dont understand Welsh but love to hear the lovely men singing And the to add Bryn
Beautiful
Love this, but wish they used that fantastic organ instead of a cheesy piano! Geez, the organ is right there ready to use!
I don’t know when I hear Welsh music or anything to do with Wales I get very emotional and excited I’ve been to Wales twice before in the past and be one place where I like to live but I live in my homeland Australia and I’m truly blessed by the way my surname is Evans
Obviously you are of Welsh origin! Be proud!
We had this played at my nan and pops funerals. He was a proud Welshman and my nan was French with a Welsh father. Making me well up listening to it now. I'm English, but my dad was also Welsh.
How can you be English with your ancestry? 75% Welsh and 25% French ;-)
@@mfjdv2020They probably mean that they were born in England because even if both you're parents are Welsh,if you are born in England you're birth has to be registered in England which is why some Welsh parents try so hard to make sure their children are born in Wales.
Love it
I am welsh-american and very proud
My favourite hymn
Sublime! (in an equally sublime Chapel...)
Magnificent 👏👍☘
Spotted Dai Vaughn at the back there, what a legend!
I worked at Port Talbot steelworks about 1983. I enjoyed the company of the Welsh folk.
Bravi ~~ 💖💖💖
Beautifully sung by Bryn and the choir, D my see enough of Bryn here in the UK.
Thank you for your kind comments. The Dunvant male choir were lucky enough to have Sir Bryn at our annual patrons concert this year. Such a special event as we were celebrating our 125th anniversary albeit 2 years late.
Good and Glorious music is shared with human beings all over the world. Respectfully I played piano for and in a Hispanic Church Congregation knowledge of very little Spanish. How? God. #actionspeaks
I can see my dad in this
❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a combination, Treorchy and Bryn.
It's Dunvant, not Treorchy.
You throwing shade at Dunvant...?
Dunvant is where the choir comes from. "Mynyddbach Chapel is situated at the end of a lane that leads west from Llangyfelach Road, between Treboeth and Llangyfelach." In the video we see the gravestone of Daniel James who wrote the words of Calon Lan.

Nice organ pipes!!!
Beautiful singing, but I wish there were some younger faces in that choir. Will it still exist in 10 years?
I’m Scottish by birth and love all music especially the Welsh male choirs makes my hair on the neck stand up
Da iawn boys bach.
Nothing like a Welsh male voice choir to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

Wow! That soloist!!!
That is Sir Bryn Terfel. He is a famous Welsh singer. Surely you must know who he is?
There's a voice on that Bryn Terfyl. If he plays his cards right he could go far.
Haha very funny! Merry Christmas.
@@mfjdv2020 a very Merry Christmas to you, too!

Hi Sue thank you for your comments if you go to this URL you will find an English translation_www.felinfach.com/blogs/blog/calon-lan
Hi Sue, you can always learn Welsh, there are online courses which make it easy to learn at your own speed.

Would love someone to do do a rough translation.
A paraphrase: Dear Lord, please grant to me a heart that is happy, a heart that is honest , a heart that is pure that i may worthily sing Your songs, all day and all night. in Jesus' Name, Amen. I think a little searching will produce close translations if you like.
I don't ask for a luxurious life,
the world's gold or its fine pearls,
I ask for a happy heart,
an honest heart, a pure heart.
A pure heart full of goodness
Is fairer than the pretty lily,
None but a pure heart can sing,
Sing in the day and sing in the night.
If I wished for worldly wealth,
It would swiftly go to seed;
The riches of a virtuous, pure heart
Will bear eternal profit.
(Chorus)
Evening and morning, my wish
Rising to heaven on the wing of song
For God, for the sake of my Saviour,
To give me a pure heart.

It makes me sad to see no young men in the choir….
It has also troubled the Choir, but since the end of Covid restrictions we are pleased to say that we have taken on a number of younger choristers in all our sections. But will still work to welcome even more.
Why no young men? It will be a great pity if the Welsh tradition of choir singing dwindles away.
Not but grey haired old men. Sad that this choral tradition seems likely to die with them. What’s the matter with kids today?
Ardderchog, diolch yn fawr....
