- I’m back on the grind after a few month hiatus from fishing & this trip didn’t disappoint. Today I had an epic battle with a WEST DELTA STURGEON that thoroughly reminded me why this is one of my favorite species to duke it out with! 😉

Yes these fish make for a lifetime of fisher tales & the more they’re told the bigger they seem to get 😂. She was a big fish to be sure, but she was not my PB. Thankfully the delta sturgeon fishery is rebounding due to slot & possession limits.

😳 I’d lose my mind! Yeah I got a 9ft one in Oregon 10yrs ago, an 8ft’er a year after in Montezuma slough. Been chasing a larger one ever since.

Yeah it’s good stuff. Learned how to make it from a chef in a hole in the wall restaurant in Washington. Since the last time I made it, I haven’t been able to catch a slot fish which is a blessing & a curse I guess.

It is illegal to pull that fish out of the water! Check the regulations.
First, I am well aware of the regulations. I can assure you no laws or regulations were broken or neglected. Second, I believed this fish to be a slot length fish. Which you can clearly hear me say prior to removal. Once it was realized the fish was oversized (67in to the fork) it was moved to the front of the boat for a quick picture & immediately returned to the water. The regulations state: 27.90 White sturgeon subsection e (removal from water) no sturgeon greater than 68in fork length shall be removed from the water. Which this fish didn’t meet in accordance with the regulations. I appreciate you chiming in & your concern. I do my best to preserve & contribute to the continued recovery of the delta white sturgeon population by adhering to the regulations to the best of my ability as well as refraining from harvest.
