  • Here's the full Flex Disc Reusable review for anyone waiting - I was able to try it a few cycles ago but I haven't had the chance to film. You know I love discs so it was an easy review for me. Things went great - I do prefer the easy removal of my favorite disc but the other aspects of Flex Disc reusable were up there for me. As usual, this video will have comparisons of Flex to other reusable disc brands as well.

    I absolutely love that it comes with a disposable. She disses them and nearly claims that they're just doing it for marketing. Am I the only woman out there who has unpredictable periods? Stashing a few disposables in the car or my purse would be a lifesaver for those unexpected periods. It's not pointless, it's thoughtful.

    • @jenniferdivine1115
      @jenniferdivine1115 Před rokem +40

      I think even if your period comes like clockwork, the disposables are useful for giving to a friend/family member. That way, they can try out a disc without investing in a reusable.

      I get the idea that it’s weird to send a disposable with a reusable products especially as most people using a reusable product is doing it for environmental reasons.
      I like the idea of getting a disposable also. I am just now trying discs and the flex disposable was an easily accessed and lower price one to try which I also currently like. I would like to switch to a reusable one and knowing that I have backups of the disposable if needed such as an unexpected start to a period is nice.

    • @jenniferportzline1786

      Yes! I like the disposable to keep a couple in my purse for unexpected period starts.
      Also, they are nice to give to someone who wants to try a disc but not spend the money. This is how I was introduced to the disc.

    I'm so happy these kinds of products exist! When I was a young girl just starting my period (early 1980s), the only available products were pads and tampons. In my family, it was considered inappropriate for a young girl to use tampons, so I started with humungous pads that felt like a mattress! And they were the kind that you had to use a special belt with. Horrible. I am supposedly going through menopause, but just had a full period a couple of weeks ago. The cup I tried was very uncomfortable, so I got a Flex disc. Huge difference. Where were these my whole life?!?! lol
    As a side note: you sound just like my gynecologist. Like, exactly. Weird. Thanks for your great videos. :)

      Even in the late 2000s my mom didn't want me using a tampon! And my mom was a relatively liberal and forward thinking woman. I hear it's still a huge problem with young girls being strongly discouraged from using any internal products for menstruation, and in many countries it's rare for ANY women to use products besides pads. My friend in the Philippines says she's the only woman she knows who uses tampons. I honestly cannot imagine only using pads! It was awful and I ruined so many clothes and sheets and constantly felt uncomfortable. This is in no way to shame women who only use pads but I cannot imagine how much women in those countries would benefit from other period products! My cup makes my period 1000x times easier than just using a pad.

      @@emilyfoster6487it may have to do with not being able to trust most teenagers with the responsibility of switching tampons on a regular basis in order to avoid toxic shock syndrome. That was my reasoning for not allowing my daughter to use tampons until she was about 16. She ended up not liking them anyways.

    The Saalt disc is what I was able to get at my local store but if it doesn’t work out, sounds like Flex from your online store will be the reusable disc for me! I’ve been wanting to try a reusable disc ever since I got disposables on my honeymoon, the Flex discs worked phenomenally for me! The firm rim made removal so easy.

    I just bought Flex Reusable Disc from CVS. I have 6 menstrual cups and a Cora Disc. This is my favorite so far. I leak a lot no matter what I use because I’ve had two kids and tend to have a chunky flow and a magically shifting cervix 🙄… I have tried many reusable products. So far so good..very comfortable. 😊 the rim of the Cora was too wide and all my cups were an SOB to get open and I tried every “trick” described by P.Nirvana, Reddit users, etc. I wish I knew what to do with my failed cups/discs.
    My reusable system is period undies and disc combo (sometimes adding reusable pad as well at night)
    I have to say I like the extra disposable discs because my period sneaks up on me like 3 times a year when I don’t have anything on me. I threw the extra discs in my work cubby just in case 😂 love your reviews! Thank you for your amazing work!

    I have used flex disc for around 10 cycles now, 3 of them with the reusable one. I am sure unless something better comes out, I will forever be absolutely in love. Leaking and ruining clothes no longer happens. even just to entertain myself because I don't like white, I wore white undies for a whole cycles and they are still spotless.
    I'd like to share a tip that could help with a less messy almost mess-less removal. I've found that when hooking and pulling out, if I angle my finger upwards and keep it to the side as much as possible, I can sometimes manage spotless fingers(tmi sory) even with a red bowl below me. I can't guarantee this'll work for anyone else, but while I'm learning I'm sure others would love to learn with me. Hope I have helped someone

I love the reusable because it more comfortable than the disposable ones but these last couple cycles I’ve had issue keep the reusable disk in. I am waiting to find a disc that has a combination of these features before I get my first one. The cutout for insertion and the tab removal would be a dream disc for me! Either way, thank you for giving these discs their spotlight. It has made this journey much less daunting, or dare I say even more fun when having a period! :)

    • @katharina1788
      @katharina1788 Před 2 lety +1

      Those features are not always needed. I have a Lumma disc (the largest one) and cut off the string (it always poked me) and it works perfect for me. Easy insertion and for removal I simply push and it moves so much forward that I can easily remove it. As it auto-dumps first, it's also not messy to remove. It really depends on certain factors (the hight of your cervix, which rim firmness works for you,...) what works for you. I have a medium to high cervix and never gave birth. And for me the Lumma works great even without the easy insertion cutout and a removal tab. I would even be worried if it pokes me.
      Try a flex disposable and if it works for you, you can get the flex reusable.

    Tried the Instead reusable years ago and it was so uncomfortable I couldn't hardly stand it. I had never tried a disc before at that time so I just assumed that I was cursed and could never use a disc. It was way too firm and I could feel it moving around in there when I walked. I saw an advertisement for Saalt on social media and soon realized that there are a LOT of options out there now. I tried the Saalt disc for this cycle for the first time since my bad experience with Instead. I noticed right away when I took it out of the box that I was going to have better luck with the softer silicone. I was so happy that I couldn't feel it and it worked great. No leaks. I was grateful to find this channel so I could get some tips on insertion and removal. I almost couldn't get the thing out but if I bear down, I can grab it and pull it out. Also doing this in the shower is great. It's messy but I really don't care. I just take care of it at home before I go out and in the shower when I'm at the gym. I'm just so happy I can work out without worrying about bleeding through a tampon. You can't exactly wear period underwear or liners with yoga pants and shorts.

    I LOVE the Flex reusable disc! I used the disposable ones with great success so I was so happy when I heard they were coming out with a reusable one. The first reusable one I used was the Cora disc and after trying that for a few cycles I hated it. It always leaked, and getting it out was a major struggle for me. I’m new to discs/cups but I found that if I’m out and need to take it out to dump I carry a little bottle of water with me and rinse it over the toilet after i dump, put it in my other hand (do not let it touch any surface), wiped as normal, and then put it back in.

    I love the flex disposable so I thought I’d try the flex reusable but it’s so much harder to insert than the disposable. Flex disposable is a 10 second insertion max with one hand but the reusable keeps flipping around inside when inserting. I also can’t keep it pinched long enough and it opens inside too soon. If the reusable had the rim of the disposable it’d be my perfect disc.

    • @brittneyzarwel6242

      OMG yes!! This is the exact same experience I had!! I can insert the disposables one handed - fold it, slide in, guide inside one handed (finger) & I'm done. I tried that same technique w the reusable and the disc immediately unfolded halfway in & i couldn't get it to stay together while finishing the insertion. I got it in but I wasn't sure if it was right so I tried to remove it so i could try again and that's when i realized it got turned around and the finger area that's supposed to be on the front was twisted and not in the front. I panicked and just wanted it out. Got it out abs haven't tried again since. I got a Cora and flex to try and I'm not sure which one it was but o think it was the flex. I'm supposed to start in the next week or so & am prob just going to stick w the disposables. Its like the rim on the disposable, the plastic, makes the disc stay folded while inserting while the silicone material of the reusable leaves it w less structure? I'm not sure. I wonder why we have issues w this where others seem to find it so easy.

I will try again using the notch the correct way. But I also had a really difficult time trying to get it out, I really had to push hard otherwise it would slip or I just couldn't reach it. I love the discs & used them for a year or so before i got pregnant. Recently started back using them and wanted to try the reusable version and i got a Cora & Flex bc they were on clearance at target. I tried one of them (not sure which now) right around the end of my last period & i found inserting it to be quite different than w the disposable disc & I'm not sure what to do about that. When inserting the reusable disc I found that the disc did not stay folded together while inserting & it made the insertion process not go so well. I guess it got turned around somehow in the process and when I tried to remove it I found that i couldn't grip the front as intended to remove it. And i panicked. I got it out and haven't tried the other one or used it since.
    I think that firmness of the disposable discs, the plastic part, makes insertion happen more seamlessly bc it doesn't come unfolded before it gets fully inside whereas the reusable just doesn't slide in as effortlessly.
    Any advice?

    • @katharina1788
      @katharina1788 Před rokem

      If this should be true, just pee and push down once you are done peeing. The body is designed to do both (number 1 and 2) in one 'session'.
      If you have a very heavy flow and the disc is very full the auto-dump will already happen while peeing. Once you push, it will empty itself more.

I tried the flex cup but the insertion part is very hard for me. so I'm leaning more towards the disc but this is my first circle still and not feeling comfortable yet. when I go pee some blood spills but that is ok. but cough or sneeze some comes out too. is this normal. I'm using pads for this reason but since I want to transition to the reusable disc in the near future I don't want to keep buying pads. I do check if I have inserted properly and it looks fine to me. as deep as I can push it with my fingers. I don't think I have a tilted since I don't spot unless I'm using any type of force, peeing, pooping, sneezing, or coughing.

I couldn't believe how difficult it was to insert the flex reusable. It always tried to open up and then even tried to rotate (basket would have been up instead of down). I guess it's because of the thinner basket.

      Sounds like it's an anatomy issue, and that a cup may be a better choice for you. I used cups first but find I'm not crazy about their fit because I have a cervix that fluctuates in height throughout my period, and the discs really help me to curb that problem because it rises and falls with no trouble with my cervix where the cup would almost being hanging out on my lower days. It was super easy to insert and remove, easier than I ever expected, far easier for me with both ways versus the cup, but every anatomy is different. Just because the cups arent a great fit for me, doesnt mean they arent inclusive and the same goes for you and your struggle with discs. They make different styles for exactly this reason, because its more inclusive and allows for more users to go green so to speak. My advice is give a cup a try. The learning curve is pretty easy for the cup, more so than even the disc in my opinion, and they're a great alternative to still go reusable while avoiding the discs that dont work for you. I just found for myself that after using cups for almost 3 years that the learning curve was easy enough to justify the switch because of all the added benefits to disc versus cup, but the cups were a pleasant experience for me every cycle as well.
