- Death Valley National Park is a desolate place with a sparse desert landscape that takes a while to fully appreciate. After exploring Highway 395 over two days, we decided to drive back to Southern California and take an excursion to Death Valley on the way. This was a long day in the heat of summer, but I wanted to see what the park was like in the summer and show my dad some of my favorite spots. Be sure you prepare if you want to visit the park like this with lots of water and all of your hiking early in the day.

Some people talk about going places? You 2 go out and enjoy it. Good job man....
Thanks! We tried to make the most of our three days on this road trip
I was there on July 6th 2020 114 degrees.
I love Death Valley. Most people who have been there with me think I'm crazy. It is beautiful. So peaceful.
So happy you got to document all this beauty with your father.
It was a great time for sure!
That’s so awesome I want to go to Death Valley one day. Cherish this time you spent with your dad. You’ll remember it forever
Thanks! I hope you make it to Death Valley one day as well!
Dont go in the summer , its crazy idk how they are still enjoying it lol some ppl like the heat its powerful heat
Jordan Allen oh yeah it’s too hot for me right now!! went to Vegas in the summer and it was 122 fahrenheit.
Your dad sheltering in the shade behind the smallest sign is mood.
ahaha that would be me!
My wife and I went to Death Valley on the 29 of June 2018 it was 118 degrees

Thanks for sharing.
Well Said...that needs to be on a meme or something...wouldn't surprise me if that soon becomes a popular quote. Thank you, Josh & Pops, for taking us along with you...The pandemic has shown so many people that life is short & we must make our dreams come true...I am inspired to go on road trips with my family...already making plans...NEW SUB here...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! 🌍💼👣
Nothing like a dad and son trip. Planning many with my sons when they grow up.
Josh, great video as usual, however, I would highly recommend that, in very hot areas like Death Valley, wear cold wet neck coolers. Have at least two of them. Wear one and have the other one in a cooler wet, or at least have it in a wet zip-lock bag. Change every 1 or 2 hours. This will cool the blood going up to your brain. Stay safe!
Better yet just don't go in the summer.
Thank you for doing this for your viewers. I felt the heat through my phone lol
Your videos are fantastic! Thanks for taking us on your road trip!
Love the adventure with you and your papa! Need more of these videos 💙
Crazy to see the water and the greenery, I was not expecting that based on the road you took to get there. Another great video, thanks!
Awesome video! So glad you get to enjoy such quality time with your dad 😊
loved the mini stream and mini waterfall.
I love to follow you as you guys have fun , most be great to have your Dad with you , enjoy,
I just wanted to say that this channel has been such an inspiration for me. It got me traveling everywhere! I took a trip to Lassen Volcanic last year and just recently hiked Mount Tallac because I saw some of your videos. Thanks!
Great video! Can't wait to take my dad to some California National Parks when I move back to the state this fall.
Enhoying your videos lately. Inspiring me to go out and explore what California really has to offer.
I wish I can have a cool dad like yours for the road trip !
I did get lucky with that!
Been homebound and quarantined, this video brought me into beautiful open spaces, thank you!
Great video, saludos a su papá . 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Your travel videos are so relaxing to watch. Thumbs up!
Beautiful video. I’m very happy to see you have the opportunity to share those wonderful moments with your dad. Thanks for sharing. I went to Death Valley last year and it was an amazing experience.
Sick video. I’m so jealous. I’m from New Jersey and I LOVE the west coast and Death Valley!!
I love the way you narrate about various places. It is very enchanting and keeps sustaining our interest.
Awesome family time 👍
We are (were?) planning a trip to Death Valley this winter. Thanks for the tips & highlights.
LOVE your channel and style! Found you through the Route 66 videos and so happy to see you and pops are off on another road trip!
Thanks so much for finding my other channel and following along! We try to go on a road trip at least a few times a year
I have been to all these places. It is the most beautiful highway on earth. You look and see all these great places. This is what god had in mind when he said that is his wonderful road in America. California is the best roads in America. Glad to be alive. Kevin
Keep up the good work. Giving me reasons to travel with the fam.
I just love your channel! I live in California and there's a lot I did not explore yet. Your videos make me wanna travel and explore the heck outta California. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this adventure with us. It's so nice watching you and your dad take these trips.
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it
Such an under rated National Park. Loved Death Valley, hope to go back and explore more. Def can be a multi day trip!! Enjoyed watching your visit with legend Pops!
Lucky that you guys did this trip before this past weekend, when it reached 130F !!
Another awesome video with great content! Fun to watch and as always, very informative. Nice job!
I was able to visit this wonderful National Park back in Feb 2018. It was great not to be in the heat but the day was very short, and when it gets dark it really gets dark. Funny story, I had just picked up my mom coming from a cruise earlier in the morning in San Pedro when we made it to Death Valley. She couldn't believe it when she saw were the sea level sign was located. It was astonishing to put it in perspective how low Dead Valley is.
So glad you have gotten a chance to explore the area as well! I agree that it is crazy to see that sign when you are at Badwater.
Another great trip report, Josh! See you in the Sierra's!
Beautiful thanks for sharing!
Hi there! Thank you very much for another incredible CA trip!! I have a work trip to Vegas in February. I hope we have some extra days so that I can get out to Death Valley!
Safe travels!
Brave to head out there now! We were there in the spring and it was already way warm.
Always wanted to visit the south west particularly California and Nevada they seem to have a surreal magical look but never got too, love these videos
Dude I've lived in So Cal my whole life and have yet to make it here! So good seeing you out exploring with your pops!
Thanks for posting. Only 110 in early July? That’s not bad. You went at a good time. Think it was that temp when I went in April a few years ago. I totally want to go back but not in summer. Maybe late fall. We were exiting the park on a road that takes you near china lake and the jets buzzed our car several times. My friend with me visiting from Norway got super excited to see them doing their maneuvers. We were the only people on the road which is probably why they were buzzing us to give us a thrill. Lol. I want to see more of the park. We were doing a whirlwind tour of the national parks in CA. So didn’t go everywhere we wanted. Only spent one day there. We have driven there from independence. It was fun but only got a taste. Totally want to go to Darwin falls now. Thanks as always for your posts. I’m itching to get out and explore more National forest trails near where I live in Ventura county. I only just, after 35 yrs in CA drove up hwy 33 to pine mountain club. How insanely gorgeous is that landscape and in my back yard. Thanks for inspiring us all to get out
Amazing place 👌
You sure went above and beyond the call of duty for this one! Many Thanks!
What a cool trip you had with your father and to share some of your favorite places with him. Really enjoyed the videos and am looking forward to the deeper dives coming in the future.
It's funny though... living in Phoenix I'm looking at that temperature reading and thinking, "Oh. So it feels like every day here." LOL.
Death Valley is so amazing! I was there about 10 years ago and really wanna go back one day! Thanks for another cool video. Keep on Trippin!
Hey, so happy to see your new video. It was 132 degrees last week in Death Valley. New record!
Thanks for sharing! As a child I wore a flannel shirt with a wool sweater over it in Death Valley in August. I was cooler than the rest of my family who were wearing short sleeved tee shirts and tank tops.
Great Video! I like the facts you add along the way.
Great videos.. Its the perfect 395 road trip..
I would recommend visiting Badwater then head up to Dante's View as the last stop. The view is excellent and you can see how far down Badwater Basin is from there too.
This is why I went there in November . Spectacular place.
What’s the Average November temperature Days / Nights do you remember ?
thank you for making this video! I'm going to Death Valley in late May and can't wait.
My son and I did Death Valley during the summer a few times in the late ‘90s! Your right about no people there! We did most places that you did, we went to the racetrack and camped out. The highlight of one of our trips was the hike up to Keene Wonder Mine in the Chloride Cliffs, over a mile up the mountain! Awesome views!
Fascinating. Keep going
I've been through Death Valley a few times. Always in summer, strangely enough. It's very beautiful. But little can prepare you for the heat. The first time I was there it got up to like 117. I washed a bandana in the sink and draped it over the bed of my truck and it was bone dry within 5 minutes.
Iam planning to go for labor day weekend. There will always be a place in my heart for death valley. Thanks for the video
I’ve been to Death Valley several times over the years, but I never heard of the waterfall! Always something new to discover there. Thanks for taking us along!
I want to go!!!
Death Valley RULES!! Can't wait to go back. I've been there a few times in the summer heat and it's my favorite time to visit because there's barely anyone there.
Beautiful!!!!
I really want to visit Death Valley one day, I love your videos.
I would love to go here sometime but in the winter only. Would like to see the flowers that bloom in winter. Your video is exquisite in quality.
Your dad would love Dante's View too. Take him there next time. The views on a clear day are breathtaking
Nice video! We were there early July too! It's an amazing place .
That's so cool! I was actually in Death Valley on August 6th/7th but I camped in Mahogany Campground to do Telescope Peak. So no 109 temps for me lol.
Thanks Josh for another great video. DVNP is so vast... I've been a few times and still trying to see it all. My favorite spot is Dante's View... a must see (IMHO) if you're in the area. Titus canyon is another "have to". Again Thanks to you and Pops for the video.
Very informative trip to few less known places
I’m from Canada pretty close to Detroit and it’s in one of my bucket lists to visit Death Valley!! Love your video man
I see they put the thermostat back up at Furnace Creek. It wasn’t there when we went in March. And yes there was a crash about a year ago. I had no idea there was a waterfall there! That’s crazy given how hot & dry it is!
I liked your video! The temperature in D.V. yesterday was 130! I so wanted to experience it but I do not want to put such a load on my truck. I meander in the Mojave Desert a lot. I love it! There are a lot of interesting places in D.V.; I need to stop at the popular places some day. Great job on covering the tourist highlights-I will have to do them someday.-Ron
Thank you for another great video. Looking forward to going out west especially since we have a son in AZ and one in NM.
Oh my... in July! We went a few years ago in May and it was insanely hot. Hot enough to make the dog throw up 😖 The waterfall is gorgeous! And in a less hot time, Harmony Borax Works is one of my favorites sights to walk around. You squeezed in a lot in your short visit! Nice job as always!
In my late teens I use to go to Dumont Dunes with my friend and her family. We rode off road bikes through & around the dunes. At night time it felt like we were on the moon. The sky was so clear, the stars were so bright. Absolutely Beautiful!
It is crazy how bright the moon is out in the desert

Right?! I love it! I want to take my son there in the near future. 😊
I like your video
Very informative you points out all details locations and times when and where to go.
Keep good work love from Vietnam.
I have been there! Love it!
You guys are brave! hahah, we went in November and the weather was already sort of HOT. But it is such a wonderful place, but definitely wish we had a higher clearance vehicle.
the place near the wagon are great for astro shots at night if you stay at the hotels in furnace creek, spend our sunrise and sunset at Zabriski point. we couldn't make it to the Devil's golf course, didn't want to risk our rented vehicle after going on it for like 10 feet. Our highlight was at Dante's View, we saw quite a few of those mountain goats there.
Awesome video. Thanks
Whoa.... Death Valley in summer.
🙏🏻
wonderful video!
We just visited Death Valley for our 1st time last week. It was 127. Great Natl. Park. We came in from the West which took us forever and shortened our day somewhat so we did miss some things, but we saw the highlights and much too hot for much else. Also was able to get to Sequoia on our trip to Cali & Nevada from FL.
Many of my friends just retired to the desert. I need water and green. So I retired on the Georgia Coat under 300 yr Live OAKS, looking out to the sea (5 miles). It’s good we all have different interests and see beauty in completely different things!
Weirdly cool to see the temp go from 110 to 111F while filming. And to hear the 'click' when it changed degrees. Lucky you had a breeze at Furnace Creek to offset 111F you were standing in.
Thank you again I love you videos!!!
Love Death Valley. Traveled there on horseback with ETI in 1977 from Ridgecrest over the Panamint Mountains winding up at Furnace Creek, 6 day ride with 130 other riders, camping out at night. Great experience.
@Arleen Rooney sounds amazing!
I’ve been to Death Valley 4 times (I live in Ohio), it is my favorite NP.. I love it’s hostile environment, along with the beauty of the desert and mountains. I’ve stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch & Stove Pipe Wells. The beer tastes great after a full day in the desert heat. Also, the pizza at Panamint Springs is very good, and the beer is also good and cold. If you go allow a 2 day minimum, 3 is better. Would really like to do Titus Canyon. Great video.
I'm originally from Ohio too and love DV (username is from my 2 favorite parks, YS and DV). I would LOVE to do Titus Canyon. I was sick the day my friends did it and missed out. I agree about 2-3 days, the night sky is breathtaking, especially during a meteor shower!
on the bright side it's only dry heat so go find some shade also the night sky is spectacular!
and just a week or so later it hit 130 deg there. was cool when you were there! nice video.
Awesome!!
I'm moving to Lemoore next year, and this is one of the many things I want to do when I get there!
In the winter anyway, so way im going in the summer.
Hi guys, i was just in DV two weeks ago. Camped at mahogany flats and summitted telescope peak. Time I got into the stovepipe stop it was 114f and they said they were going to set a record high that day. So, I got out with out seeing palette drive or Badwater that day. Great series.
Awesome video! Your Pops is always such a good sport 💪🏼😊 and his shirt at the beginning of the video 😁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I hope you guys put tons of sunscreen lol.
Thank you so much 😁 Yea, I got him that shirt for fathers day haha!
Planning to go with my friend.
Watching this great video again fin 2022
Great video! I have seen lot of Death Valley, but Darwin Falls is a real gem and secret spot. Don't miss it! If you have a high clearance vehicle and time, also drive down Titus Canyon and out the Racetrack.
Josh and Jeff rocks!
Watching from Indonesia,, thats beautiful trip
Very nice video. I was there years ago and if you drive up to the higher elevations, it is much cooler. I was where they have structures that look like honeycombs. They were used to burn wood and get charcoal. If I ever get back that way, (I live in Florida) I would hike up there. I believe there is a trail that goes up into the woods up there. It's very cool compared to the lower elevations and would be a great hike! I remember driving back down to the motel and restaurant where we stayed and you could just feel the heat! It was like an oven! Dry and hot! I remember also we asked to be seated in the "No Smoking Section" at the restaurant and the person seating us said, "You are in California, they are all no smoking sections!" Funny! I'll never forget that!
Iwish you enjoyed there and we too to see landscape and beauty of nature
