  • Well I guess it was just a matter of time until spanking took center stage at the Little Street Pottery Research Facility. Ever since Jerry left, well, things have gotten a little kinky. That said, Ann shows you 10 Amazing Textures Using Paddles...what you do with them after pottery is your business. Enjoy friends.
    Answers to questions we get all the time:
    We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5-6
    Ann uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video

    If you would like to learn how Ann paints with underglazes - check out her Video Workshop Series. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/showcase/6725318

    Tough to pick a favorite. They’re all wonderful. The paddle designs are so simple but great and what really makes them work is your thoughtful inventiveness in using them. We’re all encouraged and freshly motivated by your hard work sharing your pottery life. Thank you for taking the time.

    Wonderful video! I always enjoy your videos as they are not only very instructive but filmed and edited with excellence. I'm always looking for ways to add unique textures to my pottery and this video was inspiring. However, a video showing how you applied the underglaze and wiped it off on these textures would also be extremely helpful. I often have challenges getting the exact look that I'm trying to achieve- it can be a fine line between wiping off too little or too much of the underglaze. Any tips/tricks that you know of that you could share would be very appreciated!!

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 5 měsíci

      Hi NTCPA. Nice to meet you. thanks so much for watching and for the kind words. I am touched. As far as the wiping back goes, you are right, it does take a little practice to understand your underglaze and how they will fire in the end. A good rule , perhaps, is to wash your sponge often as the underglaze will build up fast on the sponge and then just leave residue on your piece to where you cant really see the color of the clay underneath. Another tip is to not put any glaze over the wiped back underglaze. that way if you are conservative and wipe back more of the underglaze .... you can add more after it is fired and just refire it again. I hope that helps.

    Good morning Ann, this is Bokie007 aka Aida Nuri.
    Thank you again for this inspirational video.
    My question is about the hardness of the clay. My fear is that if it’s too dry I might end up altering the form.
    Please advise and THANK YOU 🌸

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi Aida. Good question. First thing is that there is no right or wrong way to do this. Everyone has their own preferences to what they like. Some people may prefer altering the form while texturing. Some people like MORE texturing and some might like only texturing on CERTAIN parts of their pots like along the bottom etc.. You might want to play around with these paddles and with the shapes of the forms you want to paddle. I found that these little jars with tiny openings worked well for hiding any alterations to the form. I just made sure that the collared opening at the top was straight and on center. One idea is to create a closed form without any collar or opening. then do your paddling. Then create a separate collar. Center the form on your wheel at the bottom....then attach the collar to the very top center. That way, as long as the bottom and the top are centered, it will create the illusion of the piece being on center even though the body of the pot has been altered.... Another tip, I did all my paddling while the clay was soft so I didnt have to worry about any cracking that you might get if the clay was too dry. Good luck. I hope this helps.
