If this is the monitor I think Optimum also reviewed some weeks ago, I think my comment from his video applies here, too. Even if I'm nowhere near the target audience for this monitor, I still think it's a very cool piece of hardware, and think it's very impressive how far this technology has come even with these older display methods. Overall I think the monitor looks very handsome and industrial, utilitarian, and as usual, DyAc seems to be absolutely top notch - I wish they'd license it to other vendors TBH, because it seems like such a massive step above anything else.

The issue with DYAC and most other strobing tech is they don't work at low framerates - sample and hold blur isn't so bad for me at the high framerates, but at 60 fps it's unplayable, and most old games and some new are locked to 60.
The best motion clarity I've seen is in the Oculus Quest, second is a 240 hz OLED running 3 blank frame BFI on retroarch, then the next best I've seen is an older LG TV which allowed for short persistence 60 hz BFI.
DYAC 2 is cool, but the same crosstalk reducing effect can be achieved by increasing the number of vertical blanking lines, which was possible on the earlier versions of DYAC using the service menu. Some other monitors can use the Blur Busters Strobing Utility, the most obvious one coming to mind is the ViewSonic XG2431, which also allows 60 hz strobing.
TL;DR I could rant for hours, but essentially I'm just saying DYAC 2 is far from being top notch, it's limited and provides marginal benefits.

@@theSato you're exaggerating just as much as he is. no one actually thinks this, but getting better hardware does make an impact. its objectively true. its not going to "make you better" but it IS going to provide you with the better tools to have the opportunity to become better, and that is almost as valuable. A good player is gonna be good on pretty much any hardware nowadays, but using the right tool for the right job is ALWAYS going to make that job easier.

Tim talks about how it helps with esports but low res and bad color can make targets much more difficult to spot.
Ltt has done tests that show going above 240hz barely has any affect on aim. This is simply a monitor aimed at people who think it will make them good at cs or its various clones.

Could you please check out the updated 240Hz model that launched with this one, the XL2546X? Great video by the way, you are completely right that a $400 hike compared to the previous flagship is ridiculous.
Getting closer to 1000Hz displays, which is considered ideal for motion clarity by Blur Busters.
The real issue will be games pushing 1000 fps. If you're doing 120 fps on 540 hz, it's basically the same clarity as 120hz.
What game runs at 1000 fps though? Source Engine breaks at 1,000 fps.
I guess Battlefield 4 will hit 600+ FPS on modern hardware..

@@griffin1366 It's fairly easy to hit in CS2 at low res with high end hardware, but not very consistently. We will need a couple more generations of CPU to hit this consistently and you would need to play 720p (which is not unusual to be fair).
@@Ansive Well, it sure is an issue, but it's probably something future framegen techs will attempt to solve. After all it's their endgame - to generate as many frames as the monitor allows to show. 😅 Anyway, at least we are closer to a theoretical "motion clarity ideal" in some respects, it's an iterative process, but I'm sure some day we'll be there.

good monitor from a technical perspective and features for competitive gaming, but OLED has quickly made everything else obsolete.
Except this XL2586X costs 1200€ from what i checked. For a TN this is 3-4x as much as im willing to pay, no matter the features.

@@444chroma Not really, 100-130 nits is perfectly fine for normal bright room lightning, and modern oled's can do generally more, 200+. I was just trying out Acer X27U and I kept the brightness around 20-35/100 with constant brightness enabled.
For me, LCD is completely dead. It's terrible for general entertainment and now it's becoming obsolete for fast paced competive gaming. What's the point of 540 Hz TN when 27" 480 Hz OLED is releasing in the near future.

No, because the colour accuracy and low resolution would be the opposite of what you want for movies and movies typically look great at 60Hz so wont benefit form high refresh rates.

@@MaZEEZaM Don't watch movies at 60 Hz, unless you use television that can do proper pull down (many can't, and monitors are worse). Match Hz with content FPS to get rid of extra judders, or use 120/240/360/480.
What I really REALLY want to see is a side by side monitor comparison in super slow motion (1000fps or more) to really capture the refreshrate differences and motion clarity differences. There really isn't many other ways considering CZcams is stuck at 60fps. Really love it when Optimum does this in his videos, but he doesn't do it enough or long enough, they are just short clips.
But then you would get industry leading results making these paid 30+min no-content monitor reviews useless.

In these kind of reviews I'd really like to see the 390hz acer/aopen monitor added to the comparison... I got the aopen variant of that monitor which, unlike the acer one, doesn't lock overdrive when enabling freesync for 312€ but i dont think I've seen an indepth review of it with gtg times
Is there any chance that that strange backlight behavior is also messing with the response time graphs of the AOC Q27G3XMN? I'm not saying you're lying, but even the new Rtings system, with 3RGB tolerance (actually covers more than yours of 3% tolerance on large transitions like 255-31) says that that monitor has a class 4.5 MS panel with medium OD. (something that converges with other reviews). For example, you get a transition from 128 to 26 in an astronomically slow 20 ms, a similar transition from 127 to 31 in Rtings is only 9 ms (more than the double) ... Why is the difference so absurd? How is it possible that your measurements give an average of twice the response time compared to other measurements, even more so when it doesn't look that different from the Neo G7 and it gets 4 ms?

People are being misled into thinking this is what makes an esports player good. This monitor is awful other than motion clarity but people really think it's their measly 240hz monitor holding them back not them just being slow and bad.

I recently got the lg 27gr83q-b due to this channels reviews and learned something really annoying, if you connect an lg tv (i use an lg c3) to the same pc, it forces the monitor into diagnostics mode on pc startup if its been off for a few hours. Only way to fix is to turn on the tv. Do you guys happen to have both to test this since lg seems to be oblivious to it but seen other people with the issue.
Could we get more productivity monitor recommendations on the channel? My use case is 70% productivity and 30% gaming at most and I am hesitant to go with any oled at the moment.

Alright, as a confused aspiring monitor enthusiast, trying to get the most out of my panel experience, I'm trying to navigate all the pitfalls of finding the perfect panel for a given set of conditions. Do you have suggestions for how to navigate panel selection when one has to consider performance of a panel for a given set of conditions from VRR settings/frame rate locks/impact to input lag/V-Sync use/GPU idiosyncrasies/panel refresh rate factors/in-game FPS/use of ULMB or DYAC2/ghosting on IPS or TN at lower refresh rates... and I haven't even said resolution, brightness, color quality, or panel size haha. I'm sure it starts with assessment of your system first, but the process for this is muddled across YT, and when you're looking for best experience possible and not bang for buck, what process would you use to determine your "best panel?" My assumption is that for a "more than one game player," OLED is the best answer because of the input lag performance and performance across a frame rate range. If that's the case, how is using the TN panel "better" for esports gaming when the first frame rate dip tosses you into an inverse ghosting/crappier input lag situation when compared to OLED? If you've kept reading this long, thank you! Lol
if you can afford to replace your display every 3 to 5 years get oled for best quality, go with ips lcd if you want longer display life like 8 years.

Sorry for the late response, so first and foremost I really do love the monitor, the responsiveness is insane, especially in first person shooter games it improves my personal gaming experience tremendously. However to answer your question yes I did run into some issues... 1. Whenever I'm on a website like CZcams and scroll up and down a lot, the scrolling itself sometimes is enough to make the driver crash out of nowhere (gray screen for a few seconds). 2. In some 2D video games, anything that quickly accelerates across the screen becomes extremely blurry which i believe is attributed to the stroboscopic effect and probably has to do with the game not being optimized to run on 540hz. 3. The colors are really dull or at least they feel dull/bland to me after switching from my main monitor LG 27GP850-B.AED which despite being a regular 10-Bit IPS Monitor has quite amazing colors, is worlds apart, especially after enabling ULMB 2 which dims the screen brightness down by ALOT. No worries though, you can counteract it pretty well by enabling HDR in the monitor OSD and playing around with the settings. Overall despite all those set backs, as well as being quite the pricy monitor, I would still recommend it if you love playing first person shooter games, as the responsiveness is truly unreal and kind of addicting. Hope that helps!
15:36 LCDs haven't moved away to other panel technologies. That's why we have 540hz TN with 1500:1 contrast ratio, because they want to improve TN panels. If they didn't cared then they wouldn't improve so much compared to previous TN panels.

The input lag graph at 12:29 is exactly why I find refresh rate discussions kind of stupid. Yes, more HZ is better regardless of the display technology obviously, but the display technology has way more impact than the refresh rate. In the HUB testing from this video, even the 165 HZ AW3423DWF OLED beats the best LCD available at the moment in this chart for lag which is the 540 HZ Asus PG248QP.
Sure, for pure motion clarity, the XL2586X with BFI (DYAC 2) is better, but you have more lag than OLED and getting a locked 540 HZ to get BFI working is a challenge even with the best CPUs available today. If the OLED LG 32GS95UE in 1080p 480 HZ mode had BFI, it would be in a league of its own for motion clarity.
The thick bezels were designed to offer more protection for people who travel with their monitors to LAN parties or tournaments.

as there is no bezels (but at the bottom) there is nothing to hold on for attaching a webcam or whatever else you could think of attaching to a monitor

@@Navi_xoo Or the on monitor cams have a fold out clip that sits over the edge of the screen. its an area that rarely shows anything overly important that a tiny area temporarily covered by the clip of the webcam is no real issue.

Burn-In WILL occur for ALL OLEDs...it just a matter of when and how?!
OLED is organic & individual pixels will degrade unevenly. It's not really a matter of "if", it will happen. How visible that is will likely differ from unit to unit, but most OLED's will handle it pretty gracefully & just get dimmer over the years (reducing overall brightness output).
As for visible permanent image retention. Looks like you need to do some pretty insane stuff to get the very terrible examples to happen, not something I'd immediately worry too much about.
Hey, love your videos! I got a new oled monitor arriving in a view days (360hz QD-OLED from alienware) and i would be interested in a little setup guide for OLED monitors, both the monitor and windows settings you would recommend to prevent burn in and just the optimal settings in generall.
Just a quick note... Nothing, is going to prevent the Burn-In...maybe stall it for a bit...maybe but the problem with OLED is it WILL happen...just a matter of when?!

Asus every day of the week. Since it's both 540hz you're aiming for insane motion clarity which both have and insanely low response times and insanely low imput lag. Asus wins really significantly in terms of response times and imput lag and these 2 things matter the most for competitive gaming. Refresh rate isn't a discussion since you know, both 540hz
@@luukherfst1209 from what I’ve seen they are basically on par with each other, the Asus gets brighter without ulmb2 on but darker with it on vs dyac2 but the zowie has better color accuracy, 99 vs something in the 80s for Asus.
I haven’t seen anything specifically saying the Asus is faster, I’ve seen reports saying dyac2 is clearer though

@ayyjayy5018 WHAT... The Zowie was literally IMPOSSIBLE to get calibrated to anything NEAR accurate to srgb (which is the only colourspace it can utilise effectively given it has no hardware to do even reasonable HDR). The fact the ASUS monitor has a functioning srgb mode makes it win that category by default because this Zowie monitor is frankly absolutely terrible at it.
@@markjacobs1086 which mode should I be using on the Asus, srgb seems dark out of the box without any additional settings, been using gsync esports mode which brightens it up
@ayyjayy5018 Ironically, the default mode is very likely to be the most "accurate" setting available if you don't have the tools required for a full calibration.
Not that things need to be accurate if you don't want them to, then it's more of a whatever you like type of scenario & there is no "best mode to use".
Why are there no monitors between 1440p and 4k? I just bought a premium 1440p 27’ monitor, and I would happily have paid an additional $100-$200 for 1620p or 1800p with another inch or two in size.

Diferença faz. É muito? Não. Tanto que a maioria dos pros de CS deixam dyac desligado, e por vários motivos. Primeiro o diac ligado aumenta um pouco seu input lag, em torno de 3~4ms. Segundo, a tecnologia ligada causa dores de cabeça e fadiga ocular com pouco tempo de uso no PC. Aproveitando q estamos falando de input lag e dyac, o ULMB2 da asus q é a mesma coisa q dyac, não causa aumento de input lag. Esse monitor só vale a pena se vc tiver grana sobrando msm, pq o preço dele pela configuração q ele entrega é ridiculo.

I own three TN displays, Asus 21" 60Hz models. I use one for testing new builds, one on my file server, and one on my legacy components test bench. Each cost me $80-100 US. I'm not a competitive gamer, so while I find the technology exploration interesting, I'll never own anything like these.

When are you going to address the VRR flicker issues with these OLEDs? I literally see it in your videos but you never bring it up.
I'm not sure I understand, what is there to address? All monitors have brightness flicker when the refresh rate varies wildly. The higher the contrast the more you will notice it, so OLEDs are the worst followed by VA and finally TN/IPS. You want to cap framerate with Rivatuner or similar (lots of in-game settings do a poor job).
My old C9 doesn't have a flicker issue except in loading screens. But so does my LCD monitor.

Honestly, I see no reason for anyone looking at a monitor in this price range to get anything other than the LG WOLED. It literally gives you all the functionality of a $1000 esports monitor and a $1000 HDR monitor in one.

These cost way too much being LCD though, it will be around €1250 where I am, especially now that OLEDs are getting higher Hz too though. I'll wait to see that dual mode Asus one. Wish OLED offer proper BFI we'll see if the Asus one can do 240Hz with BFI at least. But yeah at that point I'm already seeing the end of LCDs really. Next 1000Hz no way anyone using LCD it's too slow. So with future OLED monitors and improvements, just need max Hz BFI and also along VRR as option. But yeah good stuff, these are the fastest Hz monitors and new also for tournaments and lower volume so I get the price, kinda, but still quite hefty vs upcoming OLEDs though. I'd expect these LCDs to get half price eventually once new OLEDs release.
for reviews like these you guys should get esports players to try them and give their opinions and how they differ for their main use of competitive gaming
I bought a chinese 1440p 180hz monitor in 2018 off of eBay for $240. They don’t sell them anymore but it was a STEAL for its time. It’s only a TN panel but the viewing angles and colors are actually quite good. Im still rocking it to this day and do not plan to upgrade until I can get an insanely good 1440P or 4k 240+hz OLED for less than $400.
so what I'm getting out of this, is when OLED finally does backlight strobing at 30hz, 60hz, 120hz, and higher, it'll become god. Especially for low fps locked games.
I mean kinda but there no blacklight so it'll always be limited to half its refresh rate at most
@@Frozoken half of 480hz is no slouch and should look pretty darn good. the big benefit to the strobing though is games that you want clarity but they just don't support high refresh. having strobing on a 30fps locked game for example

Yeah Tim should have shown the backlight strobing quality at 60hz and 120hz so that we have a baseline on how great backlight strobing makes these low refresh rates. And push consumers and manufacturers into adding BFI to their OLED monitors
And then you get your Burn-In...just a matter of when it occurs for you...because it WILL!

Yes but the response time on that thing is so awful to the point you have a lot of ghosting and no clear image at all even tho it's 500hz
So the new OLEDs beat the Zowie out in both input lag and response time.
In esports, the majority of pros disable DYAC with zowie monitors.

Someone who really values having the best motion clarity.
tournaments, competitive players to have same monitor as on tournament. really depending on game strobe really clears the picture in fast motions so, to each their own.
For dedicated esport events who will use the same TN 540HZ with the same settings/saturation etc for CS2 etc.
It is a niche for cs players.
Just like with every other high-end monitor, it’s aimed at enthusiasts. Some enthusiasts care about better image quality and appreciate better colour reproduction, contrast, resolution and features like HDR, etc. while others care about motion clarity and blur reduction tech.
It all really comes down to what you enjoy doing at your PC. If you do a lot of content consumption at your PC or need a lot of screen real state for work stuff you’re going to look at different very different monitors when deciding what to get compared to someone who uses their PC just to play competitive games, even if it’s with friends and not in very serious manner.
With that said, I wouldn’t look at what pros do because having a good understanding of hardware isn’t a requirement to be good at a game. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them weren’t even aware of the existence of these monitors unless Zowie contacted their organisation. Some definitely are enthusiasts, though, and assuming their game can be ran at a solid +540FPS will definitely get one. Few games can actually do it (VAL, R6 and OW2) so the huge CS crowd misses out on it, which is a shame.
I’d definitely get one to keep as a second monitor on a pole-stacking arm so I can swap to it for FPS games, personally. At least until we get a 1440p 27” OLED that flat-out beats it, especially if it can do some sort of BFI at a similar refresh rate.
Most pros dont know anything about hardware, they just want to copy their settings in a superior zowie panel.

a monitor that is functional in all ways but picture quality but another monitor that is reasonably functional and has some of the best, if not the best picture quality.
Strictly as a monitor the OLEDs win without a doubt but if high brightness is required all the time with static HUDs then burn in might be a concern especially for an esports player who might stream 12 hours a day or something so there's pros and cons to everything as always but the price of the BENQ is far too much for what it is, but welp i ain't an esports player so I wouldn't know.
Honestly tho, I haven't seen much esports players actually use these monitors like they just use what is provides to them by sponsors a lot of the times and they just play their best that's it.
Even with the blue busters ufo test the image with the 32gs95ue is much easier to see and less blurry then any of the zowie ones
Which CPU for 540Hz ,7800x3d or 14900k ?
Both would be fine for 540hz assuming you have a 4090 as gpu which I would recommend if you're tryna get 540 fps. However the 7800X3D is slightly faster and it is quite cheaper but difference in performance is really not that big between these 2 cpu's like 5-10% difference in fps

Imagine modern OLED monitor with around 500hz and good BFI implementation, it will blow such monitor out of the water, especially with such price tag, not that OLED isn't out perform in every other metric, but BFI will give oled also deminish that lone advantage these monitors have.
...and then you get your Burn-In..and are like... "Ouch..should have not gotten OLED"
@@Doctor0Who I have LG CX TV, soon 4 years old, I used it for pc and general TV content consumption with daily use. Zero burn in so far ( at least non that I can see). I'm not saying burn in is not a thing on OLED, it is and I have older phones with some burn in, but OLED are at a point that they are quite reliable for normal use. So if I get 5-6 years before any major damage happens to it, IMO it is worth it, so yes I will get OLED monitor, and I'm glad I get it over LCD, I had enough of LCDs. But each one to their owns, I will not tell you what to buy.

It would never be because benq makes monitors designed for competitive games like CS2 and valorant. 1440p would be counterintuitive in these kinda of games
There's only 1 1440p 240hz 24.5" display and it's a Chinese one under the name of "Thunderobot". Entirely a gamble if you buy it.

@@cockatiel1235 no logical reason for that in 2024. Objects are sharper and easier to make out at a higher resolution and there is no problem in pushing 480fps in most esports titles at 1440p with today's hardware.
@@rickystafford7433you gotta remember that a ton of cs2 players are willing to play at low resolution for 4:3 aspects ratio. Although I've seen enough instances of them missing enemies at the corner due to low FOV in LAN tourneys it makes me wonder why bother torturing your eyes like that
Damn, sounds like it's double strobing at 60hz, what a huge missed opportunity! With the rolling strobe it would have been a genuine leap towards what CRTs offered.
