    The same people who say Mexico are the same people who say Chicago is dangerous and I can personally say from someone who lives on the south side of Chicago it's perfectly safe where we live 😊 Mexico doesn't scare me it's seems like a great place to live

      Great example Chris. Very true. Where we lived in Sacrament was safe but 30 miles down the road it was dangerous due to gangs however if you're not involved in that activity then you were still relatively safe. Yes Mexico is a great place to live. -Marc

    Marc and Paulette, my wife and I met you briefly in Morelia a few years ago at an xpat coffee group. I believe both you guys and we were checking it out at that time as a place to stay long term. We ultimately chose Chapala and you went elsewhere. Love to see a comparison of cities from your perspective. We have sold our house here and are planning to start searching again.

      If it's Morelia and San Luis Potosi we're comparing, San Luis has a larger centro historico. There isn't much of an expat population in San Luis Potosi. San Luis potosi is a little more expensive then Morelia. San Luis is a beautiful city. People in my opinion are a little more friendly here in San Luis Potosi. If you decide to visit San Luis Potosi let us know. we'd be happy to meet up. -Marc

    As a family doctor still practicing in Canada, well aware of the crises and obstacles our health care system is facing, I feel a little perspective is needed. In terms of recent global rankings for health care quality, Canada was ranked 32, USA 69, Mexico 71. Also people dying on wait lists here is rare, unless it’s for something like a liver transplant, which is largely dependent on an appropriate donor organ becoming available. A good friend of mine just had surgery for breast cancer. Because her tumour was very aggressive, she was triaged quickly - the surgeon contacted her by phone on a Friday, saw her on Monday, got her into pre-op assessment that afternoon, and she had her surgery 2 days later. And her surgeon gave my friend her cell number. I know there is a real unevenness between provinces, and much more challenging in rural areas than in cities (where I practice). We are facing a crisis in terms of shortage of family doctors (don’t get me started on that). Definitely politics and kicking the can down the road, with a lack of long term projections about population needs which are looming play a huge part. There are a lot of strengths still in our system. However it definitely needs not just a “shot in the arm” but long term planning and strengthening.

    It's best to stay away from coastal areas of Mexico given the unpredictability of hurricanes as a consequence of a rapidly changing climate. For example, last October, Acapulco on the Pacific coast was hit by a powerful hurricane and the city is still in total shambles given the poor response by the Mexican government. Another serious problem affecting Mexico is the scarcity of fresh water, especially in the arid north and central area of the country.

    How do i get a residency

    • @TheTwoTravelersInMexico
      @TheTwoTravelersInMexico  Před 4 měsíci

      It's a process you have to start outside of Mexico at a Mexican consulate. You have to qualify at the consulate for wither temporary or permanent residency. There are a number of way to qualify but most are based on financial requirements. I can also qualify if you have family in Mexico, a Mexican spouse or your parents or grand parents were born in Mexico. There are ways to do it from within Mexico like you have to over stay your visa but that program could go away at any time. Here's a video we did about the requirements. czcams.com/video/aASqB7lSVXU/video.html
