Could not agree more with Fortis punching above their weight. Bought a classic Flieger in the mid 90s - still one of my favourites. Has been to extreme environments and back - I guess that is part of the appeal that you have 'history' with a watch. Keep up the good work!

This is why TGV deserves viewer support. Bringing under the radar watches when every other reviewer is drooling over boring, unattainable Rolex. Such a great channel!

I have three Fortis watches - a spacematic day-date, a special edition flieger (with the standard dial and VJ7750) and a cosmo chrono in LM5100. I adore them all. I treat the cosmo gingerly but the other two have had real use (dirt, water, punishment) and they all perform brilliantly. I so agree that they are under-rated and under-appreciated. I'm always glad to see you drag one out from time to time. Thanks.

As always, and as others have mentioned here, I love hearing the history of the brand, thank you for being not only a watch guru but a historian! History can play so much into deciding why to purchase a particular watch. I do admire microbrands (Norqain has grabbed my attention lately) as well, but clearly love the legacy of brands that are still going strong at 100+ years.

Love these works of art that I admire from afar. I have a small very affordable Seiko collection of different types of movement - a quartz dress watch and two divers: a Tuna solar and Turtle PADI Automatic. Nice thing about horology is you can spend modestly, go all out or somewhere in between to own time pieces that are enjoyable to wear and experience.

    Good morning TGV,
Great to have a Fortis-review to my morning coffee!
Fortis is doing so many things right in the last years and this watch is no exception.
It's a classy design, very versatile!
I recently watched a panel discussion with Fortis owner and CEO Jupp Philipp (along with the CEOs of Hanhart and Formex) and this guy is so passionate about Fortis, you can really feel how this is directly flows into their watches! Speaking in watchmaking terms, Mr. Philipp ist more from "our generation" (he's in his early 40s) so may that be the reason, why watch enthusiasts from all generationen gravitate towards Fortis.
    Have a great day!

    Dear TheUrbanGentry,
Hi, I’m Jake and I am 16 years old. I have recently started getting into the hobby and stumbled upon your channel. I have been watching a lot of your videos and they have really interested me into starting a collection. I have already a bought a G-shock as my beater watch and a Seiko quartz chronograph for wearing with my school uniform. I wear gym/athletic clothes all the time and I’m looking for an everyday watch that would go with those kinds of outfits. I am willing to spend up to $200 for an everyday watch (possibly a dive watch) as the third piece in my collection. As I am new to the hobby, I’m having trouble picking which band to use as I’m not quite sure if a stainless steel band is “too much” for athletic/gym clothes. I know you love the skx but the price is over 300 now. I would love to hear your opinion on which watch I should get for that price point. I love the videos, keep up the great work.
    Thanks,
    Jake

@Mick Cripzzz Are Rado even overrated? IMO they're invisible. Nobody thinks about them, they sell either anonymous or ugly watches. They're part of that made-in-China-but-branded-Swiss nonsense from Swatch with other interchangeable brands like Certina, Endura, Mido and Tissot.

I am not a huge fan of most pilots watches but I would be mesmerized with this one on my wrist. I would be to distracted to to also be productive. Hello TGV,
Yes, Fortis watches are great. I have a few in my collection too. I missed the watches with the anniversary caliber F-2012 in the historical overview. These many complications in one movement and on one dial are an extraordinary fine mechanical achievement and another important milestone for Fortis. But Fortis has so many highlights in its history.
The watch is a flight-dress watch. Certainly goes well with airline uniforms.
A great combination of historical and modern design elements.
As for the Straps from Fortis, the leather straps in XL are just about fit for my 20.5 cm wrists. And I often complain about the fact that I have to buy an extra XL strap because the standard length for my wrist is too short. And now you come and want to have a hole smaller. 😭
We both have opposite extreme wrists.
    Best wishes
    René

I have owned two Fortis Cosmonaut automatics. The first one I lost and the insurance company (who did everything right, by the way) took something like five months to source a replacement. The thing that I have always liked about them is their utilitarian, journeyman-esque approach to everything. So a bit more bling would probably put me off a watch like this. I know Fortis have done it in the past but I don’t think it’s their main game. But I completely agree with your conclusion. These guys absolutely own the space they occupy like no other Swiss brand.

I am not much of a watch guy, but i just picked up a Fortis Flieger from goodwill.... they had it for 19 dollars.
It looked nice so i got it without knowing the brand... learning lots about the brand here thx!
Does not have the original band so i would have to do some digging but yay!

I like how you look beyond the watch itself in a review. It brings a whole new level of understanding to how it was designed.
Also, thanks for not riding band wagons ;-)

This watch seems hard to find. It looks like it's out of stock on all the grey markets. The one place I still see it available is watchbuys which because it's a AD. costs considerably more

Fortis is a great make. Solid quality and excellent design. I love them. You are so right about that watch. Thank God no rivits on the strap! The Chronographs are amazing value. Love the slimness. If only they had a GMT version of this!

Fortis, Omega and Longines....i don't know which one i would like to have first, i think for me a Fortis is on the first place...very nice video TGV, that flieger is beautiful, that blue accent on a second hand is a nice detail, and a white date window (but your cosmonaut is... a king. I like your Opinel, too)

What is the difference between lemanja 5100 and valjoux 7750? They seem to have same layout. Also what is that knife that appears all the time around? I love it. Great video, i especially love brand history segment. Quality content indeed

Great show T! I agree, Fortis are underrated. I love how its thin, about as thin as Hamiltons Intra-matic dress watch, with the 6 O'clock date too. I love the 40mm Flieger chronograph in PVD from the 90's, with the 7750 in it.
Hope you and yours are keeping well.

Fortis definitely have a great history and I know from you they make great watches. I'm not a small seconds fan, but this one looks quite nice with the larger size and blue hand. Really like the size. At some point in my life I do want to add a Flieger 🛩️ to my collection as I love the history and the functional look. Fantastic video as always sir and as mentioned many times love the piano cocktail bar music 🎹🥂 Cheers
