Great video. I have the 055 and it is my favourite watch! I can't stop looking at the dial! And the lightness makes it disappear on wrist. I think it's the best watch seiko make, without going into G/S range, considering the specs and price. When I bought mine it was JDM, so not available here in Australia, which forced me to buy from Japan, but I'm so glad I did.

I def prefeer SS because is much shiny, cleaner look, and more scratch resistant + I like to feel watch, and not like Im wearing plastic like watch as Titanium gives feeling.
I got the SARX057 and am underwhelmed with the dial. It's not as impressive as many reviews say, in my opinion. The bracelet and case are amazing though. I am probably gonna sell it and get the SBGA203. Thanks for the review!
Yeah，I agree with your combination, and seems like Grand Seiko agrees too. I will go SARX035 and pretend it is the Grand Seiko.

My wrist is 18cm and I'm afraid this watch will be too big for me.
Yes!! It’s about 6.75 inches or 17cm so you should be good. They’re both 40mm (can’t remember if I said in the video) and so it’s REALLY wearable for most people.
This was really helpful, thanks for going through the effort. I'm interested in a black dial and I prefer the stainless steel but it seems like it is sold out and maybe discontinued?
That’s so interesting and I think you’re right I can’t seem to find it at any of my usual places. The turnover in the Presage line is quite high, it seems, Seiko is always trying new things.
Hi Josh, I need your input please. I was soooo close to pulling the trigger on the Sarx035. But then I saw online the Grand Seiko SBGX261. Its a quartz movement that apparently keeps to within 10s a year.
Its a little over double the price of the Sarx035. What are your thoughts? The fit and finish on the sarx035 is already supremely high, but then this is a Grand Seiko. Would this Grand Seiko model be worth splashing out for?
Hi there! So this is tough because I’d always say GS. Don’t get me wrong I love the SARX but GS is a cut above.
HOWEVER, since you’re willing to spend twice the SARX, then I personally would (if it were my money) suggest spending another ~$1K on the SBGR253 which is the automatic 9S version. And I know that’s a LOT more than the SARX, but I feel like you should get what you really want. It sounds like the Quartz is kind of a compromise you’d make for yourself.
For me, quartz is a no-go because I don’t wear most watches often enough to get enough use out of a battery to make it worth it.
BUT, with that said, is this going to be either your most expensive watch, or would you use it as a daily beater? If the answer to either of those is yes, the go for the Quartz and upgrade to the SBGR later if you really want to because you would then get the use out of it.

I love the SARX055, but I would switch it to a leather strap, that gap in the clasp is just an eyesore!
Dear Josh James, greetings from Germany! I hope you are doing well...I have a question: I ordered the tissot seastar and I am a huge fan of James Bond... so I want to order 2 Blushark Nato´s...now my problem: as I am informed the watch is 21 milimeters thicc from horn to horn... on Blushark and many other Nato Strap sites they offer only 20mm or 22mm so what did you bought for the watch 20mm ( 1mm smaller or 1mm thiccer? ) In short: did you bought youre Strap thinner or bigger and does ist fit well ? Ricoimf Hey there Rico!! Not to worry! I actually have a whole video on my blushark straps too (link below). I went with a 20mm. It’s funny I actually have the previous generation Seastar which has a lug width of 19mm (I love “horn to horn”) and also did a 20 with it but I had to trim it and then melt the edges. 20 works great on the new Seastar though! What other straps would go well with Sarx watches?
rio red I think any leather strap would look great. I swap my SARX035 onto both brown and black leather straps, the 055 would probably be harder to pair just because of the dial.
08:08 do the sarx055 clasp sits more flush than sarx035 clasp?
Its been so hard to decide between sarx035 and sarx055. Even after the video I couldn’t decide. Which one do you like more?
Hands down the 055, it fits into my lifestyle better, and I think on the wrist it feels like (movement aside) you should have paid upward of $2K for it. The dial, the super sharp mirror polished indices, and the overall presentation just feels so high end. For me the lightweight titanium is also a plus, but it’s not for everyone. Cheers!

How about the scratch resistance ? Normally titanium is easier to scratch than stainless steel, any issue with that ?
theacag This is a tough one because you’re right that titanium is generally a softer metal than stainless steel. But Seiko’s DiaSheild definirely improves that a bit. I do have quite a bit of scratching on the 9-o’ clock side of my case but only because I wear my watches with bracelets a lot. In this case, I actually think that oily smudges from fingers and such are the bigger offender here because they’re super visible on the more matte surface of the bracelet. And yes they wipe right off but they make it look like the watch is tarnished. I personally am not super precious with my watches so it’s not a bother for me but it definitely would be for some. theacag I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing that they buy the 055 but are a little disappointed with it in real life. I personally like that it’s a little more subtle. Ya know I’m going with the stainless steel version simply because of the scripted “automatic” is nicer than the plain font of the titanium one
Walter Lee I agree completely!!! Especially if you’re going for the black I think it’s a no brained to get the nicer “Automatic” mark and saving $300.

Titanium by a long shot. It’s a softer metal.

I’m disappointed in you not mentioning the dreaded BUTT CRACK! lol this simple fact makes the thirty series bracelet much better executed than the fifty series. And I say that as a SARX 035 and 055 owner who sold the 035.
Noize Tank Hahaha! The butt crack! My favorite feature (kidding). No the reason I didn’t mention it is that I’ve watched some videos and seen some pictures of people for whom that isn’t even an issue. I’m not sure if it’s been fixed since I bought mine or what but it does seem like it’s inconsistent so I didn’t want to call it out as a definite difference.

Matthew Davis if you take a look at the clasp of the titanium “fifty series” models, they have a gap just above the clasp that is almost nonexistent on the steel “thirty series” models
Josh James every photo and video I’ve seen, along with the example of my own, all show that gap. From what I’ve seen from Seiko, they don’t really fix things like that without doing a new line of watches so I don’t expect that issue to be fixed on these titanium models at all. Are you sure it’s not an issue simply because it hasn’t been pointed out to them? Your video was the only review I’ve seen that mentions the gap. And it is one of the only flaws in my opinion
Noize Tank To be clear I’m not saying it’s not an “issue” and I’m not at all affiliated with Seiko so I can’t speak for them as to whether they consider it an issue. And like you mention if people are interested in the full review for all the pros and cons, that’s what the other video is for. :)
