How To Make Apple Syrup, Shrub and Reduction! 🍎

- Thanks to a viewer suggestion I made one of the best syrups I've ever tasted! (thanks @nathangrover1655 ) It is a syrup made with Apple Cider, sugar and spices and it is absolutely delicious! Go ahead and watch the video to learn how.
I made an old fashioned he also suggested:
1.5 oz Cognac
.5 oz Aged Blended Rum
.25 Apple Cider Syrup
1 dash Walnut Bitters

Thanks for the shoutout Uncle Pete! I also found an apple juice reduction to be more like a sour mix than a sweet syrup. Today I'm reducing sparkling alcoholic cider to see what that's like.

My Apple old fashioned is:
2 oz Apple Cider
1 oz Rittenhouse Rye
1 oz Laird’s Applejack
.5 oz Giffard Vanilla de Madagascar
2 dashes toasted almond bitters (Fee Bros)
Fresh grated cinnamon
Sounds fun!

My lackluster “instructions” would be at fault before any “misunderstandings” should laid at your feet! Glad you did this, though, because it sounds so flexible for much less work than my silly process of reducing 16oz down to 2 or whatever it takes to thoroughly thicken and sweeten.
Winter highballs sound as rewarding as that Colonial AF OF. Butternut shrub here I come!

@@UnclePete Excellent. Taking a cue from you, I threw my first cocktail party a couple weeks ago and put this one on the menu, billed as "Old Fashioned, Hung with Care"-though, you're right, it was actually a fall drink.
The menu had 5 holiday-ish themed cocktails, including El Presidente, which was a real stretch: "Tonight you will be junta'ed by three ghosts."
Weirdly I think folk's favorite was my "Reindeer Flip." I'd planned it as a kind of ugly Christmas sweater cocktail that would use up the sweet stuff at the back of the liquor cabinet. A whole egg and some grated spice can cover a multitude of sins, I guess!
I look forward to more Pete-inspired cocktail adventures and concocting in 2024!

Tried a version of the highball in this one, with a commercial apple shrub I happened to have around... Wow, great stuff! Curious now to try the old fashioned, and the highball just might enter regular rotation. I'll be sure to give credit if I put it on my menu. 😁
