Gas. What an f-ing weapon. Not many weapons are so horrible that almost everyone agrees not to use them. I remember trying to learn to use a gasmask. In the beginning it was really hard to get it to sit on perfectly. And any little fault you have means getting it inside. Especially hard with a beard. Even with modern gasmasks it most be horrible to get gased. I cant imagine trying to get those things on in a real war situation.
Its just impossible to understand how that generation manage to fight that war under all thoe horrible horrible circumstances.
Btw. have you heard "Father" yet? Its not one of my favourites but it fits great with this song. Also, if you havent checked it out you should check out a live version of "Attack of the Dead Men". Joakim runs around in a costume and it is just great 😂

Exactly I've heard the same thing from other soldiers. And to do it in a real context must be horribly difficult! A disgusting weapon. I've seen the live version, and indeed it's special 😂 I haven't heard "Father" yet, but I was thinking about it while preparing this

Yup, they are an absolute pain and that’s also a reason for all modern military troops to be clean shaven as it provides that smoother connection and coverage.
What’s even worse, it’s the ability to detect when the Gas has dissipated, cause there are very very few ways to do so, to the point the most standing way in the military is… to ask the most expendable guy to remove his mask first. Your not told your the most expendable, your just asked to remove your mask for a moment to check the air. Brutal, but literally one of the only ways to check.

@@reecedignan8365 One vision I have of it is the fact that it stagnates in shell holes, and that guys get poisoned just by trying to take cover for a minute... Dirt

As always, you have a great reaction and definitely know your stuff. Yes, the first actual use of chemical weapons was bromine gas, which was fired in canisters by artillery guns. Funny enough, the Russians faced that too, although in a different battle. By 1916-17, the Germans were primarily using chlorine gas, which Russian, French, British, and Belgian troops all faced. They were being gassed. In 1917, the British found a stockpile of chlorine gas and used it on the Germans. Talk about karma! By 1925, the Geneva Convention officially banned chemical weapons, but as we saw in World War II, that didn't stop the Germans again.
