It's fun to watch you enjoy the song, even if it's about a tragic situation. Par and Joakim call their music Heavy Metal. Joakim said power metal is about dragons and drinking. There's a video of this song being sung in Russian. The video Sabaton - The Attack of the Dead Men, cover by Radio Tapok. It's very entertaining to see the band members interrogating the Russian, asking if he's the one who's been translating their songs. Then deciding what to do with him. The punishment was to have him perform the song the day before Sabaton released it! Very cool. As for the poison gas, listen to "Father," and see the Sabaton History Channel explanation.

Examples of Sabaton songs about the US
To Hell and Back, about the WWII hero Audie Murphy. The music video is very informative, so I recommend that over the lyric video.
82nd All The Way, about the WWI hero Alvin York
Devil Dogs, about the Battle of Bellau and the US Marines in WWI.
Hellfighters, about the Harlem Hellfighters in WWI
    Primo Victoria, about D-Day.
    and many many others

“To Hell and Back” the title of Audie Murphy autobiography.
A lot of the lyrics come from this poem…
      THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO
Oh, gather 'round me, comrades; and
      listen while I speak
Of a war, a war, a war where hell is
      six feet deep.
Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh
      how can a soldier sleep?
The going's slow on Anzio. And hell is
      six feet deep.
Praise be to God for this captured sod that
      rich with blood does seep.
With yours and mine, like butchered
swine's; and hell is six feet deep.
      That death awaits there's no debate;
      no triumph will we reap.
The crosses grow on Anzio, where hell is
      six feet deep.
      . . . Audie Murphy, 1948

@@Why.does.it.Matter Thanks for sharing Audie's poem. His entire book is incredible, and so was he.

The Germans fled in such a panic that they did set off and was stuck in their own traps.
After this song about chlorine gas it would be appropriate to react to Father about Fritz Haber, the creator of chlorine gas that killed so many but also the creator of artificial fertilizers that did feed millions and the contradiction between maths and morality, sinner or saint.
That song have a very different vibe.

Yes, you are right! They know how to take you right now into their song/story they tell. Check Uprising live Woodstock, Poland 2012 - they start it with words: Do YOU remember when .... I LOVE how Joakim and Par can do it writing music and lyrics. To me they are geniuses :-)

I agree, they are excellent history teachers. Their Sabaton History Channel fills us in even more.
I never knew about The Last Battle until Sabaton sang about it. Or Night Witches, or Winged Hussars. Only the Red Baron.
I really enjoy your voice, comments & enthusiasm. Subscribed.

Very good reaction and welcome to the world of military history taught by metal music 😊
Sabaton is a Swedish that makes music about war and soldiers from all over the world, without taking sides. They celebrate the bravery and sacrifices of any soldiers, having the phrase ‘lest we forget.’
If you want to dig deeper, here's a small list of songs to react to, if you want. There're many others and I'm sure others will suggest them.

I think Chris isn't that Gary Moore inspired more than average joe. He is more current metal player with tapping and pitch harmonics and in this scale in 1st part is cool. Guitar harmonies in in part "c" are beautiful. Riffs are bit 80s style as you already know. I'd recommend song from newest album about bulgaria...The Valley Of Death. Sick good solo part but very 80s riffs so i personally didn't like the song but after 10 times and now it's my fav from new album. Similar case is with Pillars of wisdom. So 80s riffs and then sick solo by Chris. Ofc Stormtroopers solo is great by Tommy. Reminds me of Yngwie. My recommendations of their solos...
