Anyone looking to get into this, please understand that although there are degrees for construction management, you will need several years of experience in the field to understand each aspect of construction and do your job correctly. A course in project management is great, but will not prepare you at all for what most construction managers do. If you don't already have a background in construction I would seriously consider another career choice or finding a way to get job site experience every week as you learn. Also, if you can't handle extreme stress and are prone to anxiety/mental strain this is not the career for you. You will break deadlines, you will cause your company losses and you will have to deal with accidents at some point in your career. I got into doing this training myself as I went, with no formal education and 10 years later I'm still learning something new and taking on more work than the year before.
Everyone has to start somewhere. You don’t need experience to start any career. Obviously when you come out of school you won’t be a project manager you will start at the bottom learning the ropes. But that is the same for every single job/career out there. Even Bill Gates started somewhere.
@@alex2jz140 Yeah this guy is being so discouraging.
Literally graduate jobs
What he's saying is if you work for a major Contractor building big projects you will be responsible for delivering the project with a 1% profit margin in a contract that will ensure you are taking all the risk and working to a tight programme with a hefty liquidated damages payment hanging over your company's head should you fail to deliver the project on time, which might also have to be defect free if the client doesn't want the building anymore due to a change in his market.

Thank you for putting together & including the Personal Organization Planner. I have created / adapted a few similar forms for myself to use. I'm hoping to add a few of these to my personal toolbox. Keep up the great content!
Excellent video on what it really takes to be a productive PM! Love the tip on not becoming a victim of "email answering". Myself and many other PM's were victims of this early on in my career.
Such an effective communicator. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! I learned so much while still laughing ....you are very witty in your delivery. I appreciate your personality and the way you just tell it like it is.
Thank you! I truly enjoyed this!
Thank you for this introduction. I'm currently seeking a job as a paint project. Mamajor I've been painting for over 30 years and you are spot on. I just wanted to hear someone else's point of view. Thank your knowledge, wisdom and sharing your experience..
I like the sense of humour ,it kept me connected
Great video Jason! Some great ways to turn chaos into control
Thank you Jason
This was refreshingly accurate and true. Great video explaining project management. I'm in Real Estate/Resort Reimagining, and my days are super hectic. I'm going to try and implement some of the suggestions from this video. Thanks!
Really liked this video mate! Just enrolled to study project management from a construction/labouring background. Gonna be a big jump but trying to get ahead of the learning and this definitely helped! Subscribed already and gonna keep looking through videos!
goodluck bro ,i have 18 and am doing the same as you
Wow , thank you sir for uploading this message ,I have learnt something today ❤
Currently on a major project for a light rail, and the example is spot on.. finish late, wake up to a main broken the night before. Boot up the pc, prioritise the ‘activity’ list, the meetings begin, the phone rings, the priorities change and the actions list gets longer hahaha.
Excellent video bro
I'm a realtor with aspirations of becoming a real estate developer as I was doing some research, as we all do, visited CZcams University, lol your video was the first on the page. I loved everything you said, I subscribed and liked your content. Can't wait to learn more from you Jason!
I am stoked to have you with me.
This made me scared because this is what I wanted to do.
it’s an amazing and collaborative field! your experience really depends on the company you work for
Thanks 🙏🏾
Would love a video on what software to be proficient at
Hi there, thanks for your video, went to the think you gave use though it does not work. Many thanks
Good video, and Construction management in UK can match other Countries, but under special H&S training. Plus I always deal with company/Contractor emails within 30min on average lol.
I didn’t like the video when u asked. But you earned it by the time the video ended. Good job.
Not sure how I ended up on this. But as a journeyman inside Wiseman (electrician), How about starting off with properly Interpreting the prints and the intention of the architect or engineer, and getting us the tools, men, and material to accomplish the task? That is what project management is after all, isn't it?
3:03 - I LITERALLY started laughing out-loud - amazing summary hahahahaha
Currently in college majoring Construction Management to become a project manager. I want to know as much as possible for my major and to be a successful project manager once I graduate
Definitely talked me out of this. Thank you lol
As part of a Construction Management Team, " Fighting fires and hounding at people everyday. " sums up my day. 😅
It’s wild how accurate this is 😂 do you know what I spend a few hours on the weekend doing? All the non emergency stuff 😂
Great video. I was wondering do you have any tips or advice currently just finished my first year in CPM at Oxford brookes university in UK.
Advice for what? I would be happy to.
Starting my Masters in Construction Engineering and Management next week. Should be finished by December. I have been inquiring about apprenticeship/assistant roles with local companies to gain work experience as well to no avail. They’re all looking for full time Project Managers with years of experience so far. Any tips on where to get work experience outside of years of labor level jobs.
where did you had those shirts made they look great
We had them made. Thanks for the compliment.
Opinion on project management vs property manager.
I got my real estate license in September, currently work in accounts receivable/payable 6 years and looking for more career growth!
How can I help?
I'm a 14 year mortgage banker who started doing construction part time to quitting my job to go full-time real estate.(flipping and building) My business went under and I'm thinking of going into construction project management. It feels like what I was already doing as a construction company owner. Would you recommend I go into this field. I do have banking and construction management experience. From remodel to full ground up construction using my own money. Ive led white and blue collar crews. Construction project management feels right for me. I got into a bad project and rates and economy changed. It was a perfect storm that ruined my business. To all the project managers would you say its worth it? Like do at least make 100-150k?
One big difference I notice as an electrical PM is that GC’s will have a whole team of guys dedicated to just one project where we may have 15 maybe even more projects going on at once. Sometimes just making all the meetings will eat up 1/2 to 3/4 of your week when you’re spread that thin
This has always seemed to be the norm for me as well. I manage between 12-15 projects in the wall and ceiling industry doing mostly healthcare and for each project you have 3-5 people you are in pretty consistent contact with so I have always said its like 1 Vs 50 sometimes in terms of emails, phone calls and requests. 95% of the time the GC team is solely devoted to that one project. Uphill battle to say the least.
as a GC accountant, yes i would say GC work has a lot more support. our suncontractors are littered with accounting and compliance issues that i can only imagine make their PMs jobs insanely difficult
Currently got an offer for a field engineer but as someone with an architecture degree, some of the drawings are very complicated. Any advice for first day in a few months? What would I expect on my first day? It’s a startup without training
Oh my. I would have no idea. I can recommend you keep a to do list, learn to read drawings, and read the first 8 chapters of Construction Surveying and Layout
All links are down, sadly.
New PM for GE. Just found your content. Keep it up:)
So is it nearly impossible to have a family and be in construction management at the same time? Any advice for a similar, well paying career which would be more family friendly?
What position do you currently have?
@@jasonwilliamschroeder I’m just looking at majors now. I want to just have an idea of which direction I should go so it’s not a waste of money.
I think any position can hurt. I love construction management. If you learn lean principles early and have a personal organization system you will be able to care for your family.
@@jasonwilliamschroeder ok, thanks!
@@nicrugari You’ll be fine man in my office everyone has a family and goes home at 5 latest 6. Just go to the owners rep project management great pay not as many headaches.
The first two links shown say page not found 😢
Should be fixed. Thank you.
how much is the starting salary of a masters student in construction project management right after school in the UK, USA and Canada?
I only know US. 75 - 85
Hi great video can a person with a buissness management degree become a construction project manager
Absolutely! The degree does not need to be specific to construction.
I would love to shadow this Gentleman for a month, at least just to soak in some of that knowledge!
#trustory 😊😅😂
