  • At multiple points, Paul writes that he is not ashamed of the gospel. Why did he need to write that? What is it about the gospel that could bring shame on someone who preaches it--or believes it? The gospel offends us in our self-righteousness. That’s clear. It also offends us in our licentiousness. The truth of our union with Christ and liberation from sin’s dominion can fly in the face of the desires of our flesh. In all of this, the Lord has us and will complete the good work he has begun in us! Jon and Justin talk about all of this on today’s episode.
Semper Reformanda: Jon and Justin consider how we will bear reproach for the sake of Christ and the gospel. This is the normative experience of Christians.

@@radekszafran1896 In legalism you are attempting to justify yourself by the law. In antinomianism you are making your own law. Both are self-righteous.

@Zach M Hmm... I never thought of it like that 🤔. Very interesting. You're onto something there, Zach

That's exactly what it is. Legalism says, "I was messed up, but now I'm doing pretty good for myself. Better than that guy." Licentiousness says, "What sin? I'm a good person."

Absolutely. The world is split into prideful and humble.

Prideful vs the humble. The licentious and the self righteous man both think themselves to be without error.

There are other ways to view the atonement that predate penal substitution. Also, how can anyone be deluded enough to believe that John Calvin or Martin Luther had the spirit of Christ?

It Offense The pridefull. Who still Think the flesh profits something? They love the work reward system to put God in their debt. They have a vail over their mind. They can't imagine a good God. That would require only belief, that's alien to them. They still must put their boots on and earn their righteousness, And working through the law. For the perfecting of the flesh

Spot on, I desired the lgbt lifestyle because I am fallen and corrupt, I’m bent and so satan ( uno that fallen rat that seeks to tell you that you are which you ain’t and eliminate fellowship with God) tickles one’s desires and eventhough I knew it was wrong, well I knew I was living in sin consciously and I was deluded without a doubt as a unregenerate soul, I just thought God had given me over and there was no way back, satan wanted me to die in my sins so he will use anything agin your eternal resurrection, if not lust, then the world and all it’s accompaniments and your pride etc he’s got a myriad of ways to turn you agin God but God is greater and knows satans ball game, if you truly desire to know that which God created you to be and to be born again turn back and trust in God, listen to him alone and note when satan whispers to you and how he tries to turn you agin God, it will become obvious to you that you are in a spiritual battle friends, trust in the Lord, reside in his power and he will save you and lead you in truth and to righteousness, believe and trust upon him alone and ye shall be saved, Gods promises are real as is satan and his minions but always remember 1 john4:4 Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
This can only happen if you open the door, God is knocking and desires your attention , the question is will you answer and allow him in to do for you that which you can’t do for yourself 🙏✝️ victory is found in the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
