At 13:31 there's a commercial for MTV featuring David Bowie picking up a phone backwards, and I legit can't tell if that's intentional or not. I mean he does look *really* high...
Kinda odd that a 1983 Newscast would start off with graphics from CBS' 1981 campaign (Reach for the Stars), by this point in time, they should've either been on the tail end of their "Great Moments" campaign, or the start of their "We've Got the touch" era.
14:15... Frankie Lane... IINM, he sang the *RAWHIDE* theme; Channel 2 should've hyped that part up because *RAWHIDE* was a long-time CBS mainstay, not to mention that Channel 2 is a CBS O-and-O.
Love the angry scowling picture of the mayor at 5:20 followed by the happy smiling picture of the opposition alderman they show right after, gee I wonder which one you guys prefer politically.
@chuckcookus(open): There was a different ethic back then; Lester Holt(he worked at WBBM for a time, BTW)'s comments in a recent NBC newscast show a stark difference.
20:11... what happened? Did MLB, the Yankees, or the Royals make a "copyright" claim or something? Even yesterday the 13th the full minute or so of Royals-Yankees highlights was still intact.
That opening fanfare is still awesome all these years later.

RIP Mike Parker
@Marquis Howard(open): In the mid 1980s, Mr. Parker reported in New York at WABC Channel 7 *Eyewitness News.*
@@StukInBuf I believe he worked there a yr or two before returning back 2 Chicago
2/18/21 - 17 degrees, 9 inches of snow on the ground.
17:02 How I wish this was the forecast for today😭
The nursing home was called Jackson square a few years later... I lived nearby

Is that the same Cowboy from the Debra Rosencrans murder?

A Buick Century looks like a Mercedes? WOW!

This isn't MSM journalism. How come half the broadcast isn't spent condemning President Reagan?

@@StukInBuf - Holt also worked at WCBS Channel 2 in New York for a time.
Do you have any segments of the CBS show NIGHTWATCH from the same year?
Mort Goldman @1:10 😂
That’s was a little rough on the sports side. Don’t know if it’s the anchor, producer, or writer’s fault? It was the weekend.

Yeah, had to edit it out, sorry - there’s a link in the description to complete footage of the incident though.
Ravinia Park, White Sox ball games, neighborhood festivals.
Now just distant memories, thanks to Coronavirus. 😭
The Banana Republic days of Harold Washington.
As opposed to the benevolent dictator-for-life days of Richard J. Daley?
