I never could understand how most people seem to miss the (to me) obvious humor in his lyrics. His words have made me laugh out loud more times than I can remember. Peace.
💯
“Is there anything worse than a meat eating member of the Royal Family?"
Morrissey: “Certainly not, no”
foolishness. We have been meat-eaters for millions of years. Don't eat meat at all, watch your health and immunity go downhill. Everything in moderation.
"BEEF ITS WHAT'S FOR DINNER!"""".
Not murder, its called livestock and a way of life for millions, they are not all wrong. you are entitled to your opinion but it is NOT the popular opinion is it now!
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 meat eating certainly doesn’t seem to cure brain dead recitations of corporate tag lines as an attempt at a legitimate argument, that’s for sure
I agree meat consumption is wrong, but what about hitler
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 jesus christ... *BOOMER MODE ACTIVATE!* and i consumed animal products for 2/3 of my life. I went vegan two years ago and not only am i "fine" I'm thriving, but most importantly I'm not paying for a multi billion animal a year holocaust because of "tradition" or because it is "yummy". You know what they also did millions of years ago? Didn't wipe, didn't use a cell phone, didn't have scientists, didn't have a computer, didn't have laws. Are you just going to pick and choose what parts of tradition suit you? Plus, just because we ate meat millions of years ago doesn't mean that it is healthy. I prefer to live in 2022 where we know that "beef" is codenamed for dead cow flesh and animal products are rubbish for your health, the animals, and the planet. Also, slaughterhouses, artificial insemination, the dairy, testing, fur, leather, breeding have never been this large scale as they have been in the last hundred years so that "tradition" argument gets thrown out the window. Plus, these are sentient beings like you and I, I wouldn't want what happens to them to happen you or me or anyone. It's needless and cruel, consume and use plants. In this respect, fuck tradition.
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 we've raped and killed each other for millions of years does that mean we should keep doing that too? Nonsense we can live healthily without the need for meat or any animal products, I'm a vegan and had nothing but health benefits - my immunity is the best it has ever been.
I hope that Mike Joyce's legal team submitted the bongo-playing clip as evidence of his contribution to the band's songwriting.
LMAO
I think Mozza would laugh at this comment.
😂😂😂
Lol
There were four members of the band and each contributed to their unique sound (Morrissey, Marr, Rourke, Joyce).
80's Morrissey in 4K is all you need today.
for real
Interviewer looks like Paul McCartney's evil twin.
Faul mcCartney. Search the name
Hahahaha
this comment just made my day and this video so much better haha
Mark Allen is the man in question . He worked in the music press and also co-hosted The Old Grey Whistle Test . The McCartney lookalike thing always followed him around , even back then .

i love how morrissey’s face lights up when he gets the opportunity to talk about his lyrics.
Bass playing in this album is phenomenal
thats one of the few shames i see regarding the smiths, i never see people giving andy rourke the credit he deserves. he is nearly as talented as johnny marr, and johnny is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, so thats sayin somethin abt andy.
rourke, gallup, hooky made me pick up the bass.
Love Andys bass on every album! Absolute underrated...
I know that "The Queen is Dead" is their most beloved album, but this is MY favorite. There are are so many "heartfelt" songs on here for me than to just toss it off and jump on the "Queen is Dead" bandwagon. This album gets a hell of a lot more intense than their others. God knows, I love and I miss the Smiths to this day. They helped me to get through my own stupid angst during my 20's and not knowing what to do with myself. 30 years later, and I'm still singing along and listening and remembering. They were Godsent. (Morrisey would have a hissy fit if he heard me say that)!
The Queen is Dead is imo very very overrated. Don't know why... The compilation with a/b sides and more, Hatful of Hollow is 10 time better than The queen is dead. For me, the Queen is dead is the smiths Sergent pepper LHCB.
@@DocManFR Hatful of Hollow is my number one fave! I also think The Queen is Dead is very overrated...
I think The Queen is Dead has the best pacing of the songs. Meat is Murder is my fave though.
I don't think he would somehow.
The Queen Is Dead - like Sgt Peppers - arrived at the peak of the band’s impact on the wider culture outside of obsessive fans, plus key songs had a triumphant feel. So those albums become the most symbolic, then lazily assumed to be the best by non-fans, which gives new listeners a place to start, but that’s all. Meat Is Murder is it’s own world, flawless, effervescent, perfect.
YES I'VE BEEN DYING TO WATCH THIS IN SUCH HIGH QUALITY
The Smiths’ youtube channel is a blessing
i love your pfp
Andy and Mike are so underrated. Seriously one of the best rhythm sections of all time.
Johnny Marrs fretboard looks crazy
Does anyone know why it looks like that? It doesn’t really look like fretboard wear
@@jeffxdd4351 It could be birdseye maple, schecter in their early days had telecasters with similar necks
Whatever wood they used it naturally had a nice pattern.
@Borkoff Is on point
it's figured maple, has really cool patterns
Johnny Marr so cool one of the most talented musicians of all time
you are correct johnny marr is objcectively the greatest guitarist of all time (when it comes to skill AND song writing), however, why do you not give credit to Morrissey? Morrissey as well is probably the greatest singer/songwriter of all time, yet you ignored him?
Making and listening to great music does that to you.
johnny marr is the real emo lord
Nah. Ian Curtis
Never say that about 60s Girl Group, Marc Bolan Johnny Marr ever again
Emo??? NEVER FUCKING SAY THAT AGAIN!!
@@alanbrito5239 Ian Curtis has nothing to do with emo. He did music in the 70s!
@@tiiamattila1157 so? goth and emo are very similar
R.I.P. Mr Andy Rourke, finest bass guitarist to ever come out of Manchester.
There's a succession of great Manc bassists- Hook, Andy, Mani, Paul Ryder...must be something in the rain water
" Belligerent Ghouls , Run Manchester Schools "
Nothing makes me want to smoke more than Johnny playing that telecaster.
The producer told Johnny Marr that if he smoked during his take it would make for a hot smoking guitar part, and so he played and he puffed and he puffed as much and fast as he could.
The Smiths - 4 guys from Manchester who shook up the world - big time. Love em !! Rx
Yup..they did no wrong..rolling stone magazine put all of there albums in the top 500.of all time best ever...i seen them in Boston Massachusetts U.S.A..and it was crazy..there must have been 200 people trying to get tickets..but it sold out once they went on sale..so i was 16yrs old..and i didnt have a ticket...i was in an alleyway next too the opera house they were playing in it holds about 4 thousand..people.....a truck started to back up the alley me and my buddy were standing in...guy gets out of the van..and opens the back doors of this van..and it was the ice being delivered...so we both grabbed a bag of ice and put it over our shoulders and walked right in...we gave the guy with the ice 75 bucks.. we were 150 feet from the stage..standing room only..because once they started playing everyone rushed to the front of the stage...By far the best concert i have ever seen...so thats my story of my first Smiths concert...i seen them 2 other times and the other 2 concerts were incredible..once romeo and juliet started playing..that was the song they came on stage to....but we had tickets this time..✌🇺🇸 ..The Sun shines out of our behinds..!
David McDonald that’s a great story man. Bet that was an amazing experience.. I’m so proud to say I’m from Manchester and live inly a few doors away from where Morrissey’s mum lives
Johnny Marr has only aged about 10 years since this recording.
And his trim hasn't aged a day
And Morrissey has aged about 50 :(

There will never be another Smiths.
Never.
6:35 when you see the faces behind the voice and guitar of that song you always loved. Now you know the original movement, faces, expressions... so cool.
What an excellent video! Beautifully filmed, amazing quality, and it was such a delight to hear the young guys give their opinion on the making of the album. And to watch them tape and play in the studio, marvellous!
What an album that is. Incredible.
I LOVE this album! One of the greatest ever.
Best songs off this album: Well I Wonder, This Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore, Meat is Murder, and you know... the rest of the tracks...
My first Smiths album. Freshman year 1985. My final wishes include playing 'How Soon is Now?' at the service.
Very cool
Nice. Mine is “asleep.”
@@21stcenturyvomit68 likewise 👍
@@21stcenturyvomit68 Yup... Asleep is in my list too.
Well I Wonder is still the best truly sad song they ever wrote in my opinion followed by Last Night I Dreamt. Rusholme Ruffians and Nowhere Fast are also criminally underrated :)
I think the most underrated is Wonderful Woman, or maybe Back to The Old House
Akhnaten Both those songs are great I wish Jeane and Wonderful Woman made it onto one of the actual albums instead of just later compilations, they fit the vibe of Hatful and the debut album perfectly imo
"Asleep" is by far one of the most depressing, and saddest songs of the Smiths - yet brilliant, pleasant and well-sung.
So true
Jesus mother of mary holy joseph they were geniuses. Such pure unapologetic creative force. I discovered the Smiths rather late, when I was living in Japan, and it became my soundtrack for that strange land. Every time I hear one of those tracks, it takes me back to riding a bicycle with one hand on the bars and the other holding an umbrella veering on and off the street to avoid the old lady walls (the old ladies would block the entire width of the sidewalk walking elbow to elbow).
How strange. Why did they do this?
@@erinhand To make people riding bicycles swerve, and possibly crash and die
I can distinctly remember recording the smiths peel sessions on my tandy stacking system. Same age as you and to be that age when the smiths came out was a privilege. Feel very lucky.
Did Johnny ever have the same look two days in a row? Man is a chameleon and stylish beyond compare.
Why has this not been released as a 3 disc/dvd remastered box set with out-takes, b-sides, a live show....fans are waiting.
Gosh, I really love the smiths and I love morrissey's lyrics! Can't get enough of them!
The only reason I didn't kill myself 35 years ago was the way I related so deeply to the songs on this album.
That’s a huge relief & credit to U ... with the ‘help’ of the Smiths, U put in the hard yards...
omg my favorite album can’t wait 🤍
SAME
This lp was sooooo unique at the time. I'd heard 2 tracks on John Peel before it was released but first listen of Headmaster Ritual as a 15 yr old, on an ageing Tandy record player, was breathtaking. Great times !
the way he hits those bongos is so indescribably 80s
I am going to watch this a second time. I can't get enough of this. Always wondered what a Smiths recording session was like. Also, Marrs green Telecaster looks so freaking rad.
The Smiths were not just Morrissey and Marr. They were a tight cohesive unit. that's why it couldn't be replicated. It all came together, and that's what made them the best band of the eighties ( although several others certainly gave them a run for their money.)
They were The Doors of the eighties. Similar ardent fanbases that felt a great critical ownership of them.
How the hell did I find this video soo late ? I needed this badly, I would give anything to see a Smiths reunion
What wonderfully blue eyes you have, Morrissey! They are quite, quite, blue.
The Reason my dad slicked his hair back & ultimately the reason I slick my hair back, that's a full circle Thanks Morrissey!
The videos too short
I love the smiths & play them everyday!❤️🙏🏼
Ditto.
RIP Andy. He was so so influential.
morrissey's eyes ♥♥♥♥ i love him. couldn't be more beautiful
Vaya jovenzuelos! Claro y meridiano, Morrissey. Eterno.
I'm straight as fuck, but Morrissey be looking kinda handsome ngl...

I really miss this band.
Morrissey and Marr are a force to be reckoned with, consummate professionals, intelligent and so articulate, and I feel so blessed to have grown up with this unique sound that is the Smiths.
I saw them do this on the South Bank Show in 1988 and I haven't eaten meat since. So it worked!

Theres something so endearing about Morrissy. I could listen to him talk all day. ❤

Morrissey singing and Marr guitar playing at the end of this video is extremely impressive !
Fantastic album with some great riffs, melodies and lyrics. I'm a huge Marr fan but definitely think that Andy Rourke deserves massive praise for his distinctive and inventive bass lines. Also nice in this video to see Morrissey bat away lazy criticism of being "miserable" with good humour.
anyone want a groupchat or something of the smiths fans??

nice to see this in higher quality!
I feel so sorry for anyone who witnessed the premiering of this video
You get the impression none of The Smiths really liked each other but stuck together for as long as they could because they knew what a great band they were.
I'd say Johnny and Andy did like each other and are friends still. Same with Andy and Mike. From the way he's always spoken about them, I get the impression that Mike liked Morrissey and Johnny as well. As to Johnny and Morrissey, I don't know where you get that impression from
Johnny and Andy were childhood friends and were in various bands together before the smiths. Mike and Andy were pretty close. Not sure about Johnnny and Mike or Mike and Morrissey. Morrissey had a pretty strong connection with Johnny back then (Even though they seem to dislike one another nowadays). So i doubt they "never really liked each other".
Wendy’s bacon commercial for “meat is murder”
I have a huge poster of this album cover and I love it
Man, Marr's hairstyle never changed.
Visiting just after the Queen's death. Their words and music still ring 100% truth in 2022. The establishment ramming royalty down our necks and Morrissey had them worked out in 1985.
Johnny is so adorable
