    I love how my greyhound smells. Earthy, fresh, like autumn leaves after the rain.

    I'm very fortunate to have a wonderful groomer just around the corner from me. She and my greyhound adore each other and every time we go past the salon she pulls to go in. I took her to be washed about 3 months after she moved in with me. She was very dirty. She's been once more, after jumping into a dirty canal and going for a swim. The smell clung to her for ages and the only way to get rid of it was for her to have a bath. Normally she smells like warm fur, and no wet dog smell after getting caught in the rain. That alone is a compelling reason to get a greyhound! I do look forward to your videos each week and I learn a lot from them. Keep them coming!

    I have found a large hand towel works great. And having a detachable wand showers head also helps on medium temperature with the most delicate spray detached and hanging into the tub. Also, start it before getting the dog in.

    Brushing - Daily or weekly, obviously more in spring!
    Teeth - Daily
    Ears - Weekly
    Nails - Weekly or as needed
    Bath - As needed, can be only once or twice a year!

    HAHAHAHA Just love your videos Jill ! The hounds are hilarious ! I was not aware that Greyhounds do not smell , until my girl Bonnie decided that she loved to sit in any lake or river that she could gain access to . She just sits there and surveys her kingdom , like the queen she is . I was really surprised , and delighted , when I realised there was no smell . ( There is nothing worse than the smell of a wet dog - phew . ) I brush her regularily to keep her black coat clean and shiny , and she finds that very soothing = sometimes dropping off to sleep . Thanks for everything ! Kind regards - Judi - Australia 😊🐾🐾🌻

    When we moved into our new house, we specifically built a walk-in shower with hand-shower attachment to bath the dogs. They don't need it often, but the older girl does get a bit stinky and needs a bath every six months or so. And she finds it less stressful than wet wipes, for some reason. And yes, greyhounds smell amazing, I also creepy-smell my dogs.

    I used to have a Jack Russell who absolutely loved rolling in fox pee, cow pats and just about anything else that stank, so I can fully relate to the tales of your Westie lol! I am delighted that my greyhound does not enjoy such "pleasures" and smells just like Gandalf :D lol!

      @@jwcaninecare Thats the kind of childhood memory that you really dont want to have repeating! Yes, very helpful! As an Italian, I miss some words, but on the whole, I understand pretty well. We still have few Rescue-Greyhounds in Italy, (mostly Galgos from Spain), so I have to browse the internet to know more about them. Even vets, unfortunately, need to be informed too and that's is a huge issue.

    Ankther very helpful video about a very common greyhound problem! That's interesting about bone meal, I haven't come across that when I've researched firming up their poos. I know psyllium is often recommended as it absorbs some of the water in the bowel, but it's good to know about another option. I've always found with mine that terrible smelling wind is down to food that doesn't agree with them, and Chappie kibble and mass market supermarket treats have been the absolute worst thing. I avoid chicken based kibbles, along with wheat, as I've found they often don't agree with greyhounds, and cause loose poo. Using a kibble that suits them - Skinners lamb/duck or salmon and rice, and Dr John's lamb and rice, have suited my greyhounds well - completely gets rid of the wind problem, that's caused by gut irritation from food they're sensitive to.

    • @jwcaninecare
      @jwcaninecare  Před rokem

      Definitely, and often a case of trial and error unfortunately. I try to avoid chicken as it can be problematic. The gas is due to poor digestion and the 'wrong' microbes in the gut, if the food is unsuitable for them

    My Hattie had her 1st shower last week at week 8 since adoption. We did quite a bit of reward training before I got her in it, with breaks for treatos as we went. She was so good and as for the towel down....oh boy yes Mom. 😊 I groom her daily with a mitt, which she adores and a light sponge down, as and when. Hats had a lot of surgery in Dec and April to repair cartilage damage....her coat was looking rather sad when I adopted her, but a beautiful shiny new coat is through and she is thriving. We've given him a chew bone, but then he got greyhound stinky gas, haha. Any tips for chewing? He's 3 yrs so still young. He's very sweet, & listens well, & a tiny bit stubborn at times.
