You must see the republic day parades videos in youtube. If you like uniforms, and marching, its a true spectacle. Each regiment Sikh/ Maratha/Rajputana/Kumaon/Gorkha/Assam rifles/Madras/Bihar/ long list with its own unique uniforms, headgear and looks, but all united in India's national service.

Parade me parade ka contingent commander dahine dekh bol kar speical chief guest ko salute krta h or contingent dahine (right side) ko dekhta h jise parade ka salute mana jata h. Or salute k return me hamesha salute hi hota h.
Isi liye agar koi constable bhi commissioner ko salute krta h to commissioner bhi constable ko return me salute dega.
the French president cannot salute the troops. neither French nor foreign. even if he is the supreme commander of the armies because he is a civilian, not a soldier. he symbolizes the people because he is elected directly by him, that's why the flags bow as he passes ... they don't bow to him as a man they bow because he is the representation of the people.... the chief of staff of the armies who accompanies him salute in his place, or any other French soldier being at his side. and in the French army a soldier can normally salute only if he has a cap on his head.

I'm not Indian but this brought tears to my eyes. Many non Europeans contributed something to the world wars including my country Zimbabwe formerly Southern Rhodesia under British colonialism. I wish they would take part in parades and celebrations in Europe but they prefer not to. So I've adopted India as my home country for these parades. Thanks India, be proud, you guys looked fierce and spectacular in this parade👍👏🇮🇳
