Yes everyone stood around waiting for Ewing to do something, because every team in the league could game plan around stopping ONE player on the Knicks. In todays NBA , if you could game plan around stopping one player, that team never makes it out of the play-in tournament. That's a slight I find confusing and seemingly coming from another place. David Robinson, although he won two with Duncan when he was the primary star I feel the front office did worst surrounding him with talent. The back court was ok but not elite or even above average to me. Mark Jackson was an All Star and Derek Harper was All Star caliber even John Starks were better overall than Avery, Del Negro, Monty Williams. Sean Elliot was good, All Star but that was it. All the other positions were either the exact same players or a wash when it came to talent, just my opinion

That lovefest that you see now started when he left the team. That is when the fickle Knick fans realized what they had and lost. He was never as appreciated by allot of Knick fans while he was a Knick. During that time people still wore more Bernard King and Clyde Frazier Jerseys.

As a huge Knick fan back then who watched almost every game I can tell you that the Knicks offensive troubles was NOT Ewing's fault. Rather, subpar offensive players like Oakley, who would miss a lot of easy layups and put backs, was the real cause of their struggling on offense. There were a lot of things I liked about Charles Oakley but he could be a strange and unpredictable dude. And kind of stupid, quite frankly.

Pat Ewing was a choke artist. He played 63 playoff games where he shot under 45%. In the 1994 finals against Hakeem he shot .363 as Hakeem shot 50% and was outscored 27 to 19.
Gutless basketball and countless times in a big spot I'd watch him clank foul shots or settle for fadeaway shots. I'd be screaming it's Bill Cartwright, take the goddamn ball to the basket or Rick Smits.
    Look at these games against Rick Smits? 4 for 15, 8 for 21, 4 for 9, 11 for 24, 0 for 10, 10 for 23, 4 for 10, 9 for 22, 12 for 27, 3 for 11, 6 for 16, 4 for 13, 7 for 16.
    WTF
Rick Smits, not Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell or Lew Alcindor that Willis played against.
In the 1970 playoffs before Willis was injured early in game 5 of the finals, Willis Reed scored 266 points and had 120 rebounds against Alcindor and Wilt in 9 games in a row!
    Not Rick Smits!
Lets see if Ewing dominated Cartwright?
    9 for 20, 8 for 17, 5 for 15, 3 for 7, 8 for 22, 7 for 16, 5 for 16, 5 for 14, 8 for 19, 13 for 31, 4 for 12, 11 for 25, 7 for 16, 9 for 21, 7 for 17.
    WTF
Bill Cartwright who we called Mr Softee!
    How about Luc Longley?
    9 for 23, 9 for 19, 10 for 21
Luc Blanking Longley and in 3 playoff games in a 5 game series Ewing was 28 for 63!
Are we for real with this choke artist?
Willis Reed in the 1969 amazing 6 game series against Bill Russell that went 6 games and the Knicks lost games 4 and 6 by ONE POINT in Boston Garden. Maybe Boston got the calls in Boston Garden?
Reed shot 56 for 110 scoring 144 points with 81 rebounds.
No gagging by Willis against Bill Russell in 1969.
    24 and 13.5 shooting 51%
Bill Russell played all 48 minutes in 5 of the 6 games and 40 in the other game and yet look at how great Reed was?
The nonsense for this Pat Ewing is ridiculous!
Rick Smits, Luc Longley, Bill Cartwright?
Lets not forget that Ewing had the best team in College three years going 99 and 13 and yet they lost two NCAA title games. He won ONE NCAA title in 3 tries.
We should of known in 1985 he was gutless and to think the media compared him to Bill Russell!

      He sucked!
.363 against Hakeem who shot 50%!
What an utter disgrace and what was the excuse for his 41% shooting against an old, bald 5 rebound Jabbar who shot almost 60%? I'd watch this stiff and be what a gutless pussy!
A bald Jabbar would intimidate Ewing!
Here is an example: Jabbar is almost 39 years of age and he shoots 15 for 22 and scores 40 points in 40 minutes even though he only grabbed 3 rebounds.
Ewing shoots 3 for 17 and 3 for 6 from the foul line for 9 points and 9 rebounds. 9 points as Jabbar abuses him for 40 points at almost 39 years of age!

Patrick was better than Hakeem. His team lost, but he was not out played in that series.

Patrick is trash next to Dream.

Hakeem was better. But is it such a bad thing to have the second best center in the league during that time?

Clickbait! There ain’t no way Shaq said “I only feared Patrick Ewing. Hakeem Olajuwon yes...Patrick Ewing....no!

He actually did but he also said David Robinson and Charles Barkley I just saw the clip on another video. I was actually surprised. With Shaq you can't really believe much he double talks about but he wasn't joking, seemingly, in the clip I watched

I totally disagree I have to go with Patrick Ewing if Michael Jordan wouldn't have retired Hakeem Olajuwon would go down as just a good Center because he would have never won any championships

It was competition against great centers like Ewing that made him great. That era had David Robinson, Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, Brad Daughtery, Robert Parrish even Rik Smits. Tough competition.
